But then, at least you can agree that the FG could have responded to this better

I'm not talking about the poor health system (that one don dey before Buhari come sef)

I'm talking about nipping this in the bud earlier

You are right but the question is what would you have recommended?

No need begging cos them no go give you.

1- Are you a regional distribution area?
2- Do you encourage electric cars?

My grouse is you don't leave your health care stranded and go begging. Let them go and meet innoson. He made an offer to them.

There is no harm in trying. He is a fellow African and may show compassion.

You don't know if Innoson is currently working on that. But that does not preclude them from begging for more from Elon. Bigger and more robust healthcare systems are still begging.

This comment from Seun captures what I and other reasonable members here have been saying about the sustainability of this lockdown in Nigeria, but being politically correct can't make some party people here understand simple things:

"Staying at home is not the answer for a country with so much poverty. There is no point in saving ppl from the Coronavirus only for them to die of hunger and malnutrition and increased crime. The lockdown policy is simply unsustainable. It is at best a temporary measure to enable the government to get it’s act together. It is not a long-term strategy.

There is no country that has beaten the Coronavirus just by asking people to stay at home. The countries that are beating the Coronavirus, China and South Korea, both did 2 things:
1) Massive testing of suspected cases and isolation of infected people.
2) Encouraging everybody to wear face-masks in public to dramatically reduce the rate of transmission, because many carriers of the virus have no symptoms and can still spread it

Those are the key things we need to do. Shutting down the economy will rob us of the financial resources that we need to carry out the measures that actually work. If we actually calculate economic losses for each day that Lagos is closed, we would be shocked.

Just as asking people to abstain from sex to prevent AIDS never worked, but urging them to use condoms worked, asking people to stay at home when they are poor, cannot work. Our government doesn't have the resources to feed everyone until the vaccine is ready. What we need is for people to use a condom for their faces when they have to go out. If 80% of us can wear face-masks, the problem is solved."

He omitted one major thing China did, They implemented a military-styled lockdown, If they did only those 2 things he mentioned without the lockdown it would still have been useless. I know a guy in China he said in his University they locked them down since January and only one person per hall goes out to buy groceries for the whole hall

1 China did massive testing because they have local capacity to produce test kits, where will Nigeria get test kits from?
2. Face mask, One per day for each person, Can you calculate how many would be needed for 200m people for 1month or even 2 weeks? who will produce it? or will it be given for free?

Also covering the nose is not the only means of transmission, What we touch, If you enter Danfo do you know how many people will touch the door handle? Any store how many people will touch the door? the goods we exchange?

And if there is mass infection, what will be the solution proposed? If you have seen the hopeless situation in countries with good healthcare, you will dread the thought of it coming anywhere near Nigeria

Have you also considered that there is a very high possibility that China is underplaying the numbers?

Their begging is justified by the fact that they have tried.

Shut down the airports earlier. Limit our land borders to cargo, as much as possible

Any flight coming in before the stipulated deadline should be checked. All passengers quarantined if possible

That way it's possible to trap all those coming in and then hope we were swift with that

I was shocked when Lai said we were looking for more than 4000 people that flew in. Coupled with Kemi's revelation in Imo state, its possible we have goofed

At this point, we just hope this 2 weeks will be 2 weeks

Reports say they closed their borders as far back as January, immediately the COV news broke out in China. So, it's possible.

However, I'm skeptical about things reported in the media.

For instance, according to the Chinese government and a number of media sources, China has only recorded about 3,300 deaths from coronavirus.

But some citizens say over 40,000 deaths have occurred so far in the country due to the pandemic, but the majority of the cases are not reported.

1000% sure of this one. They even kicked out any journalists from other countries who alluded to this at the time. Coupled with the fact that they lied that human-to-human contact could not spread the virus. And then lied that it could not be aerosolized.

The death tolls in the US are being over reported too. If someone died of a stroke or a car accident but was also posthumously tested for the coronavirus and was positive, the death was categorised as a coronavirus death.

And yes, such tests are done post mortem. Just so morticians etc can know how to handle the corpse.

I'm all for lockdown in Nigeria. It's not as if we've a better choice.

However, I feel FG seriously needs to increase their testing capacity to test much more people. Then, they also need to do a lot better in providing palliatives for the masses and ensuring that they really get to the intended and deserving hands, not stolen by party stalwarts.

Going forward, I feel it's very important to combine lockdown with mass testing and isolating and treating confirmed cases. Regardless of the cost of testing a large number of citizens, it will still be lower than a continued lockdown, which isn't sustainable in the long run and is very unhealthy for the economy.

When govt shut down the borders they were blamed. This was long before the coronavirus.

You could not quarantine everyone. And in the event that they wanted to, passengers lied about their travel history.

When govt banned flights from red hot countries, Nigerians rerouted their flights to other lesser hit countries and then got into Nigeria. Then they lied about their travel history. For e.g that Kemi Olunloyo's story is not even true. The man in question died in Abuja not Owerri as she claimed. And he was ACTIVELY evading healthcare workers. They tried everything to get him until they eventually did after he fled Owerri.

Why was he evading them when they were trying to help? Your guess is as good as mine.

How can you be sure they didn't really die from contracting COV? Could it not be possible that their underlying condition(s) was successfully managed before the outbreak of the pandemic?

Corona was first reported in China around November, So between November and January when they locked N.Korea Are we saying no one moved between the 2 countries especiallywhen we consider that China is the biggest partner of N.Korea and their major access to the rest of the world

I gave an example there. For e.g Heart attack is the number 1 cause of death in the US but if someone died of a heart attack and it was later discovered that he/she had the corona antibody in them (even if they were asymptomatic at the time of death) that death was ruled as a coronavirus death and was added to the death toll.

We can all say these because people are not dying. If people start dying they will not tell anyone to stay at home.

It just looks like we are asymptomatic. And for our sakes we better be. No one is going to be dying in hospitals, they will be stacking the corpses on the road.

I suspect most of us have already gotten it. There are almost no masks, we are not cleaning surfaces, we do business mostly with cash. A 100 naira note can move between 20 people in one day.

It's possible the US has over reported deaths due to COV, maybe to a little extent.

But has the US ever recorded these many deaths (1000+) in a day as we have during this coronavirus period, except during the past plagues/pandemics?

Did Americans just start dying of heart attacks and other medical conditions?

Do you think Italy and Spain also over-reported their deaths from COV?

The death toll for heart dieseases in a day was 1002+ consistent from 2018 into 2019 (even higher in 2018) that I checked. You can do so yourself.

Another thing? Pneumonia deaths in a state like California were close to 500/week in January. By March the deaths reduced to less than 350/ week. Can you guess why? They are using the numbers to augment coronavirus death tolls.

As for Spain and Italy, the same accusations subsist from some of the doctors working there (Twitter, 2020).

You are wrong. Corona deaths are being widely underreported, especially deaths at home. In UK, some hospitals require consent from your family to release your stats.

In some cases, patients are termed end of life. These are the only ones you can consider as being overreported, and it is up to Hospital execs to make that judgement. We had a patient die from Corona in one of our Hospitals. The patient was given 3 weeks to live with cancer but died within couple days. The Hospital exec was arguing that it shouldn't be ascribed to Corona although she was overruled by the NHS.

I don't think you took time to read my submissions on this issue, bros. The sad fact is, FG is doing almost nothing to help most Nigerians cope with losses during these trying times.

In this post, a Nigerian in the Philippines shared the things he received as a palliative service from the government in his host country as a non-citizen: https://www.nairaland.com/5769952/nigerian-philippines-displays-relief-items

Is it a crime to demand something better from the Nigerian government as Nigerian citizens? Is the Philippines a richer nation than the so-called giant of Africa?

The Philippines is probably able to do this because they have a database of their citizen and how to identify them, Nigeria in 60yrs cannot say what our population is and we don't even have a national database to know or have unique identifier

The rice we were eating till like last year was it not from Phillipines that we import them, How many of the food they eat in Philippines is imported

What were we doing when Phillipines was building all these? When they say prepare for rainy days, these are examples of rainy days.

Airlines the largest user of fuel has lost almost 70% of their traffic, Oil is what we live and die on in Nigeria for the past 40yrs. When everyone was preparing for rainy days, Nigeria was chopping theirs for the past 60yrs. Imagine no functional railway, poor roads, bad education, bad health sector bad everything

Do you now expect we will have the results of Phillipines when we never put the preparations of Philippines into it?

If you a Xtian you remember the story of Joseph and Pharaoh where they prepared for famine for 7yrs. We never prepared for 1 day without food
