Just so unfortunate those cabals won't allow the vice president to really step in to take charge

Had it been he was allowed to act on behalf of the president on this matter with maximum authority I am so sure this would have been done in a much better than it is now

Ever since he sacked that top security chief and upon buhari return things changed he has been sidelined and no longer allowed to take charge

He is someone i really think would have done better if left to handle this with the 36 state governors, ministry of health and it's agencies moreover he is an offshoot of the fashola administration that effectively contained Ebola in Lagos

Agreed without one iota of reservation and or question ❓

A person outstanding competence exposes another's incompetence and ineptitude.

Every day government leaders do live press update conferences. They take charge they give leadership they even cry.

However, our own, are missing in action at the height of a national crisis.

I am telling you
Many who voted this man did so because of osibanjo hoping his intelligence and vatse management skills will be used

You see the cabals hav done us more harm..

Even presidential briefings can best be handled by Him...

I have said it severally many of the minister's like fashola and even amaechi will make a better president than what we have now
Nigeria will likely not make progress not until tribal and religious sentiments are set aside

You've such an assistant like osibanjo and you choose to keep him in the dark I just don't understand where is the leadership skills and integrity the supporters are boasting off all over

There is no way Amaechi would have been governor of Rivers State and this mess will happen. It is impossible. Amaechi built over I think 100 health centres and equipped them. Carried out free health care for people over 80 and below 6.

Before Ebola hit Port Harcourt, he released 300 million to equip a selected isolation centre in I think Emohua.

Wike is just shouting Lockdown up and down like if it is a medicine.

I agree without a doubt Amaechi and Fashola would have outperformed this Daura Cartel hands-down.

Lockdown means nothing without testing, isolating and treating infected ones.

If you followed the President's speech thread, you would have seen my remarks. As soon as the President said they will continue the school feeding program despite children being at home, I knew that portion of the money was already gone.

Money which should have been prioritised for urgent and rapid testing for the virus. He talked about waving some loans, do not worry, those are audio loans that are gone.

We are paying the price of allowing dumb folks rule us. They are still thinking about what they can grab instead of channelling their thoughts into saving thousands of lives.

I honestly hope for a miracle.

Lockdown means nothing without testing, isolating and treating infected ones.

The much publicised broadcast.

Was not live but prerecorded at a destination unknown and left too much to be desired.

Osinbanjo should take over. The earlier the better. This is war. There is no room for tribalism or ethnic sentiments.

The remaining resources should be in his control and well channelled.

How can the academia be left out of the response process. These Daura Cartel members can not think in that perspective. I doubt they have ever read a research paper, let alone write one.

We need large studies and unilateral channel of resources to combat this.

Massive testing is a must if we must win.

Dr. Vladimir Zelenko said this is World War III situation and the enemy is a virus.

We should not underrate the enemy, which is an essential rule of winning a war.

An excerpt from an article on Amaechi:

Model Primary schools

With a target of 700 Model Primary Schools, the Amaechi administration has completed 500 across the 23 Local Government Areas of the State. They are equipped with ICT facility, modern library, science laboratory, football field, basketball pitch, volleyball pitch and Nursery playground.

Model Secondary Schools

24 model Secondary Schools are being built, 1 in each Local Government Area, well structured and fully equipped with modern day educational, recreation and boarding facilities with standard housing for teachers, these secondary schools have grossly been referred to by observers as Universities.

Primary Health Care Centres

160 new Model Health Centres are currently scattered across the State, meeting the Governor’s vision of bringing quality health care closer to the people. Almost 100 of these health centres have been completed, fully equipped and functional, while work is still ongoing at other sites.

This was from a governor in a State. So when someone tells me in a time of this kind of crisis with people dying like flies all over the World about time and money, I get angry.

In this kind of time, they are still thinking of looting and not the kind of catastrophe that can come if not properly handled.

These thieves are forgetting they have no where to run to this time.

Audio financial donations? they said they are yet to get any monetary donations o.
MainJoe:

I am sorry but I can not commend gross incompetence. Because, the mismanagement of UK health system does not give any credence to gross ineptitude.

In Nigeria we have money released and donated to curb this virus. Yet, we are yet to see investment in where it is most needed. We have States, sitting on massive IGR and allocations refusing to open testing labs or set up quality isolation centres. Without private sector donating, lots of State would not even have isolation centres.

Until the federal government changes its policy on policing people and not the virus, I can not give them praise in any way.

You don't need to believe him, the people that claimed they will donate would have rebuffed such statement if they have donated the money, or do you think an opposition like atiku will not jump on the matter if he had actually donated?

'You're just SH*T!' - Eto'o & Drogba slam medical professors over 'racist' remarks coronavirus vaccine tests should be conducted in Africa

Two doctors had suggested on French television that testing for a potential vaccine against Covid-19 should happen in Africa.

Samuel Eto'o and Didier Drogba have hit back angrily at “racist and contemptuous” comments made by two doctors on French television suggesting studies on drugs to combat coronavirus should be tested in Africa.

Former Chelsea and Senegal forward Demba Ba posted a video of the exchange on Twitter.

Ba commented: “Welcome to the West, where white people believe themselves to be so superior that racism and stupidity become commonplace. TIME TO RISE.”

The comments in question regard the potential testing of the BCG vaccine, generally used against tuberculosis, as a preventative measure against Covid-19.

"If I can be provocative, shouldn't we do this study in Africa where there are no masks, no treatment, no resuscitation?"
asked Professor Jean-Paul Mira, head of the intensive care unit at the Cochin Hospital in Paris.

“The same as for some AIDS studies where prostitutes try things because we know they’re unprotected”.

Professor Camille Locht, research director at Inserm, replied: "You are right. We are currently thinking in parallel about a study in Africa to make this same type of approach with the BCG.

“There is a tender process that has gone out or is going to go out. We will seriously think about that.

“That doesn’t prevent us from thinking in parallel about a study in Europe and Australia.”

Cameroon legend Eto’o replied to Ba’s video on Twitter: “Sons of bitches,” before adding in a post on Instagram: “You are just SH*T. Africa isn’t yours to play with.”

Drogba also called out the comments as “absurd”, with the two-time African Footballer of the Year clearly appalled by any suggestion African people should be used “as guinea pigs”.

“It is inconceivable that we continue to accept this,” Drogba wrote on Twitter. “Africa is not a laboratory.

“I strongly denounce these serious, racist and contemptuous remarks!

“Help us save lives in Africa and stop the spread of this virus which is destabilising the whole world, instead of considering us as guinea pigs. It is absurd!

“African leaders have a responsibility to protect people from these heinous plots.”

BCG is only one of numerous vaccines and antiviral drugs being considered for its potential against coronavirus.

Vaccines must go through rigorous testing and development stages before they can be approved for widespread use and enter mass production.

Common estimates from scientists suggest a viable vaccine against Covid-19 is likely to be at least 18 months away from being ready for public use.

This shouldn't surprise anyone.

How valuable are our lives to our so called leaders?

Lack of capacity Nigeria will not be able to carry out comprehensive testing unless we can manufacture the testing kits ourselves. And overnight upgrade our laboratory services across the country.

However, we have some things going for us the crazy hot baking sun, will barbecue Corona virus on surfaces and airborne after a few seconds. Add to that "Nobody One Die" that creates an attitudinal behaviour that self regulates with regards to social distancing, hygiene and face masks. And we have only 3 deaths.

Yet everyone is aware, responding and we are locking down, at least most people, we go suffer hunger etc but it's the price to pay.

The UK attitudinal approach is abysmal even after hundreds of deaths. People going around like "whaaten concern me" see picture below of tube jammed up, no face masks. I stopped entering the tube and going to London in early February. To me the signs were obvious.

So Nigeria will OVERTAKE and OVERCOME.

And after doing all you can do, Pray and pray.

People in the UK are generally Godless.

NCDC set up eight labs, with more investment in that same time frame, they would have set up more. I am not buying that crap that it takes time to set up labs.

If South Africa could improvise to have 67 mobile sites, we have no excuse to still play around with a meagre 8 when one was even donated by StanbicIBTC to the best of my knowledge.

That's for a population under 60 million, comparing that with 8 labs to Carter for over 200 million people. This calls for serious concern.

Better if this Is true

I am so happy

Bro...we have alot of crooks in power to be honest

I was thinking this well meaning Nigerians made this donaton out of the desire for possible contracts you know the capitalist system

But good they withold this money....

Let the government make a list of what is needed and let them buy it

If it is test kits or ventilators innoson can make a protype and if good we can go with that

I don't know if the government is responsible enough to tackle this to be honest

Have serious doubts about Innoson. They don't create a subsidiary industry of supportive auto component manufacturers. Because all they do is assemble.

INNOSON is a car assembly plant, they don't have an R & D input into thier poor copy engineering Chinese cars.

These cars I doubt beyond tyres have up to 10% Nigerian local manufactured content.

INNOSON is simply an opportunist that will go to China and assemble ventilators here at best. With huge questions on quality as the motive is Profit.

Chinese are shameless in thier copy engineering and cannot sell thier cars anywhere but China and now Africa. With clever if not deceitful rebranding (packaging) to make it look like they are Nigerian made. They are a conduit to flood the Nigerian market with all things Chinese but branded Nigerian.

I am in God's hands, prayer first. but doing all l can do to stay safe.

Started self isolation in early February and now we have lock down. I go out of my house once in 7-10 days to Tesco, Asda, to buy groceries.

Everything else l do is online l even work remotely. I don't visit anybody it's all virtual if Eee too much video call.

I was in London in early February and what l saw was VERY SCARY, the misplaced bravado and attitudinal behaviour, was reckless. Nobody wearing masks jam packed like sardines.

I knew then that thousands will die first before people will become responsible then it will be too late. London could get much worse than Madrid.

I am almost scared to watch the news, l have not watched it today. But l will not be suprised if a thousand people were lost in the last 24 hrs. London could easily loose 30,000

Nigeria has not lost up to 5 people and we have taken serious action to prevent matters from escalating. Individuals and government.

He also stated that ministers have already donated half of their salaries to fight the Virus cheesy

Last last, he said he'd share 1k for 20 people grin

One thing is sure our politicians will make money from this pandemic. The money allocated and the donations to fight this pandemic will be looted.

They took delivery of 400 Toyota Camry 2020 model some weeks back yet ministry of finance was begging Elon Musk for ventilator.

Imagine sharing billions to only 2.6 millions households. How much was shared.
Someone made a very silly joke that we are about 160 million people in the country so if they decided to credit everyone with BVN 2 million naira from otedola's donation we will still have change left.

Over 10 billion has be raised from donations, the money should be put to good use....more test centres, isolation centres, test kits, ventilators and insurance should be provided for the frontline warriors (medial doctors and nurses).

I think you underestimate the efforts of the agencies dealing with this. for example do you know airports in UK and US are still open to some extent yet ours are completely grounded even domestic flights.
On the issue of testing yes more testing should be done but the question is do we have enough kits? mind you there's a global shortage occasioned by global demand. in terms of testing it's only South Korea that has done very well in that regard. Sadly for now Nigeria does not produce testing kits so we will have to rely on importing them in which cost money and will take time especially considering how global commerce has been badly affected.
on the issue of lock down as imperfect as it is the alternative is not much better. if you say you don't lock down the virus will spread uncontrollably tell people to stay at home hunger and crime will increase so no line of action is ideal. however I prefer we err on the side of lock down which potentially could save more lives.

I earlier stated and will repeat. If the NCDC were serious, they will know that 7 labs will not do. The 8th they talked about I guess was the one partnered with StanbicIBTC. With more efforts, we would have had more labs to test at a faster rate.

Let us stop the whole talking of UK and US. South Africa is here and see how far they have gone to fight this, despite still facing challenges. Look at the magnitude of daily tests.

I refuse to buy the idea of praising the clear mediocrity going on in the NCDC.

We had enough time to prepare. We had enough time and money to isolate returnees. We can with serious focus test a far more number.

Are they not the ones giving Buhari the useless message of focusing on Lagos and Abuja when anyone with a little bit of reasoning will know that this virus spread like wildfire in a dry Bush.

Hammer to the President the need for rapid attention in all States to prevent a major outbreak in the country.

Making us believe that locking down is a solution instead of accepting they are lost in what to do except siphoning money.

Without Mass Testing, the Coronavirus Pandemic Will Keep Spreading

Countries such as South Korea that test thousands of people per day have slowed the outbreak. Other nations must adopt Seoul’s model before it’s too late.

The key to South Korea’s success has been speed and an early push toward mass testing, rigorous contact tracing, and mandatory quarantine for anyone near a carrier of the virus.

The country, with a population of 51 million, tests more than 20,000 people a day at more than 600 testing sites nationwide, while integrating apps that not only track individuals if they have tested positive, but also warn them if they might have been exposed to a known case.

French Professor Didier Raoult, who is one of the world’s top 5 scientists on communicable diseases, argued that the approach of mass quarantine is both inefficient and outdated and that large-scale testing and treatment of suspected cases achieves far better results.
