Just let him pay more based on usage.

Or else let him remove it so you can both determine if there is an impact on waste volume.....

tell this man to unplug the washing machine and put the used water in a bucket to check how much it uses....it will be no less than 10litres or more (depending on machine size).

talk to this unreasonable man...

Lol, this is funny. Dude you're funny... grin

I can't imagine how waste-water from a domestic washing machine can be enough to cause a soakaway to fill up quickly.
For starters, it's called a soakaway for a reason - it's built in such a way that liquids soak into the loose soil at the bottom leaving behind just solid waste.

The only way this system may not be functioning properly is if the ground beneath which was meant to collect liquids becomes oversaturated and cannot absorb any more.
Reasons for this can include the age of the soakaway, faulty engineering from construction, or most likely, ground water finding a way through an opening somewhere and seeping into the space - so anytime it rains, water drains into it.

Instead of disturbing your neighbor over an innocent washing machine, y'all should have a professional come in and check the entire sub-structure for faults and leakages.

Chairman,your contribution is quite contradictory.

U said the washing machine couldn't have filled up the soakaway easily, then u also went ahead to say perhaps there is a wrong construction somewhere.

The latter should have come first at least.

NB: The said washing machine is being used almost on a daily basis.

Plus don't forget I stated that the soakaway is small.

Good evening FAM,I need so clarifications to an issue.

We stay in a semi detached flat where we share the same average sized soakaway with our neighbor.

The challenges we always face is that the soakaway get filled easily and whenever it's been evacuated by waste management truck am always surprised that what they evacuate is over 80% of liquid.

Now the bone of contention is that my neighbor bought a washing machine last year and I discovered he connected the discharge pipe straight into the soakaway.

I had a dialogue with him that should connect the pipe out instead of fixing it into the same soak away that gets full quick,he said oh there is no issue with that that the washing machine doesn't use more than 1 litre of water and besides they only make use of it once a week.

Pls FAM is it true washing machines don't consume more than 1 litre of water?

The last time we evacuated the soakaway was on the 27th of December 2019,as I am typing this the soakaway has already showing a sign that it is full again.

Washing machines shouldn't be connected directly to soakaway na!

It should be connected to the normal drainage pipe for kitchen and bathroom water!

Meanwhile, an average washing machine can use up to 7kg of water depending on the capacity!

And where does the waste water from the kitchen and bathroom end up?

7kg of water? Is that a ship's balast? The 7kg written on thw machine is the weight of clothes the machine can carry and still operate.

OP, your soakaway is bad, poorly constructed, absorbing ground water or someother matter. Get a professional to work on it. The washing machine has nothing to do with it.

The only issue with your neighbour seems to be his unwillingness to be understanding of your fears, enough to try to allay them. And I am not surprised. Your complaints must sound extremely silly to his ears.

How I take talk am? grin

The comment where you claim you're seeing contradictions has no contradictions at all.
I progressed very clearly from letting you know that waste-water from a washing machine can't fill up a soakaway and then apexed at the most important point, which is, the problem is from the soakaway because it is probably being filled up with ground water through a leakage (this is the fault).

There are some issues one should not even bring up at the risk of being viewed as a silly person by your neighbours.

Where do you think people using washing machines that are installed professionally drain the water to? Dem dey spray am into the air ni? cheesy
All the water from your bathing, washing, etc.. where has it been going to?

Oya you sef, go dey baff and wash your plates/clothes for outside too...since water is not supposed to enter soakaway. grin

Brother, your problem isn't the washing machine, leave your neighbor alone, the soakaway is faulty, get a plumber and complain to him,he will connect a pipe to drain the excess water into the gutter, it's a job that will be done at night....

1 litre bawo? na only pata dem de wash? grin

There's no way they won't be using as much as 50 litres of water. The machine is not built to conserve water or soap.

Don't believe or trust that your neighbour

Who does a stupid thing to connect washing machines waste water to soakaway, who does that even in personal homes

You have to bring it to his notice that he needs to chanel the waste water either by hose to the gutter or to the floored compound

Wasing machine consumes water, even if you want to wash female pants, you need more than 3 lites for both washing and rinsing

If he is still defiant about it, get your landlord involve

Even if he washes once a month, consider the number of cloths to be washed and rinse

Learn to read to understand not just read to answer! How u take pass for school?

I already stated it in my post where the water for the kitchen and bathroom goes to na!

Where i dey, we don't channel kitchen and bathroom water into our soakaway so OP was right!

See, U don't channel waste water into soakaway for toilet! That is meant for faeces!

Hell yeah, if u buy washing machine with larger capacity, so u would put 6kg of clothes and 1k or water, abi? So that the motor can get spoilt easily?

Have u heard of washing machines that can handle 15kg or more?

Why the bile? Triggered much?

Where does the waste water for the kitchen and bathroom go to? Into its own special non-soakaway storage?

And if a machine is rated to handle a load of 15kg, does that mean 15kg of water or 15kg of laundry?

Bros, ignorance isn't bliss.
Re: .. by AFONAMARO: 3:40am On Apr 06, 2020
Naturally, when you do your laundry you pour the used water in the water system which eventually goes into the septic tank. I bet all other tenants including you may be pouring used water into the water system or your floor drain as the case may be.

Oloye, your septic tank is faulty and needs a good plumber to address it ASAP.
