Re: Lagos Subway Proposal by LePhilippe(m): 9:12am On Feb 11, 2007

Re: Lagos Subway Proposal by Constantin: 2:58pm On Feb 11, 2007
A subway was proposed in the heady 70´s when our country literally drowned in countless petrodollars but since then those projects have nver been picked up. That was some talking about a monorail project between Lagos Airport to Lagos Island and VI
Re: Lagos Subway Proposal by LoverBwoy(m): 4:15pm On Feb 11, 2007
As things are right now, the best option for lagos would be overhead light rail. lagos is too congested it has no proper planning.
Re: Lagos Subway Proposal by LePhilippe(m): 10:49pm On Feb 11, 2007
I think subway is a great idea!!! It will obviously take the strain out of travel and it will help to develop the people in a sense. The old rural Lagos of okadas and molues will be banished never to return, with a new shining Lagos in it's place. Also, i think this prepare and pave the way for a mall revolution with the closure of many open markets.

Re: Lagos Subway Proposal by NSNA: 11:58pm On Feb 11, 2007
overhead light railway is a better alternative.
Re: Lagos Subway Proposal by omogenaija(f): 12:01am On Feb 12, 2007
i think nigeria should fix the messed up roads

not to even imagine or talk about an underground road ,

abi na beans ?
Re: Lagos Subway Proposal by candylips(m): 12:12am On Feb 12, 2007
a light rail is the best in terms of cost and maintainance. But am not sure we can maintain a rail network. look at our roads

With a private firm it would work, no politics just independent private project- it can work

it doesnt have to be too complicated just a East-West or crossrail network will take some pressure off the roads
Re: Lagos Subway Proposal by GNature(m): 3:53am On Feb 12, 2007
Lagos state is spearheading a light rail project which will be private-sector driven.

Phase 1 of the project will run from Iddo to Alagbado with further extension to Lagos Island and Ijoko, Ogun state.

I didn't hear anything about a subway proposal for lagos, may be @ topic is referring to this light rail initiative.

I'll provide a link to this as soon as I come across one.

In its continual effort to find a lasting solution to the perennial transportation problem in the state,
the Lagos State Government in conjunction with the World Bank is planning to put in place the Light Rail Mass Transit and associated bus services before the end of the year.

The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA)’s External Relations Specialist Mr. Kolawole Ojelabi confirmed the sincerity of the state government to embark on the project. Hence in recognition of the magnitude of the project, Lenna International has been assigned to carry out feasibility survey on the workability of the project.

In realising the state government‘s vision, the Light Rail Mass Transit which will be powered by electricity by means of overhead wires would initially make use of Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) track from Iddo, Lagos to Ifo in Ogun state.

In addition 11 stations would either be built or renovated and Iddo Terminal would be converted to a rail interchange while bus services would be introduced from Iddo to Lagos Island.

my own concern about this good plan is armed robbery, you know how many robberies are going to go on underground? They do it in daylight, street corners and subway will just be a like icing on their cakes. If they do it they have to be prepared to secure it.

Where will the Electricity to power the trains be sourced. Last time i checked they cant even supply electricity to houses.
I think this is all TALK TALK as usual nothing will come of out of it. well it is a proposal innit .
Re: Lagos Subway Proposal by dblock(m): 9:20am On Feb 12, 2007
The contracts for the SubWay are conjoined to IPPs. The chinese are going to construct a series of these in various places, the electricity generated will predominantly be pumped into the national Grid. It may be only a proposal but it can become a reality in little more than a second wink
Re: Lagos Subway Proposal by Tmoni(m): 12:18pm On Feb 12, 2007
subway- too expensive and dangerous,

you might be going from ikeja to VI and NEPA, sorry PHCN (Please Hire Candle Now) takes away the electricity and you are stuck some odd, scary and unimaginable metres underground in the known hot, humid tropics, i have never heard of a better scheme to reduce the population. grin

light rail- best bet cool
Re: Lagos Subway Proposal by ucantseeme: 1:34pm On Feb 12, 2007
Subway is what lagos needs or metro-rail, but the problem is maintainance robbers would also use it as a new means of planning ur life. It wont be safe. they have to tackle security 1st before they can think of doing anything.
Re: Lagos Subway Proposal by c0dec(m): 2:49pm On Feb 12, 2007
with all the pot-holes in lagos, it wouldn't be safe underground.
Re: Lagos Subway Proposal by uzomaeze(m): 3:36pm On Feb 12, 2007
i hope for the best in the project thin but i know i believe it tight and it will be good for lag
Re: Lagos Subway Proposal by drlawng(m): 5:22pm On Feb 12, 2007
There goes my beloved country again, trying to run before crawling. There are lots of infrastructural improvements that needs to be done before lagos can consider building a subway system. It will be an undergrond grave for thousands with Power outages, and the current dispicable physical planning of that city, this is an idea from a deluded individual or individuals. this may be another ajaokuta (phantom project as a way of further defrauding nigerians).
Re: Lagos Subway Proposal by Christino(m): 6:16pm On Feb 12, 2007
@ Drlawng,

Run b4 crawling ke? this is flying in the night with poor vision grin

Trust me, this won't materialize till 2040!
Re: Lagos Subway Proposal by lafile(m): 6:37pm On Feb 12, 2007
solution to the traffic madness in lagos is simple - ferry. you think say God give us all this water for nothing?
Re: Lagos Subway Proposal by baby4u2(f): 7:18pm On Feb 12, 2007
as this proposal becomes reality someday i hope police training increases too, so that crime will not increase. Who remembers that subway walk near falomo? it had to be close because of cases of thef and rape, let alone a subway/train station underground.
Re: Lagos Subway Proposal by akara(m): 9:13pm On Feb 12, 2007
I laugh, in a city, where there is no light, no maintenance culture, we talk about building a a light railway system. Look what became of the old NRC. We should ask how they have agreed to share the loot. How many years will this project take to accomplish and if it eventually gets accomplished, how long will it function. Its a good idea but we are not ready yet.
Re: Lagos Subway Proposal by ksmallsz(m): 10:04pm On Feb 12, 2007
This'll be a great idea, Subway Roads, i believe this'll be approved and they'll take their plainin to this to be a better one, and first they should focuse on out Nigerian JAGAJAGA roads, haha, Nigeria is the best in West Africa, I mean in Africa, and we deserve all these, Good Roads, OverHead Rail Roads n all. Let em take it into consideration. K.
Re: Lagos Subway Proposal by JosBoy4Lif(m): 10:05pm On Feb 12, 2007
Abuja makes more economical sense, though its young city, they need to get the groundworks in place now
Re: Lagos Subway Proposal by LePhilippe(m): 10:45pm On Feb 12, 2007
My bad people, official the proposal has been scraped and an LRT has been scheduled in it's place. But, there are plans to build a monorail from Airport to V.I and the likes. smiley
