Hi Carlanders. Straight to the point I got a 2006 Audi A4 February just to celebrate something its a 2.0 quattro double exhaust. And the next day I drove the car to ekiti with the plan to take off back to the north the day after. Immediately I got home that day I started the car again and it didnt start immediately. After matching the accelerator it started and I tot its the stress bringing it in from a long journey and again I drive really really fast like crazy. Next day around 6am I wanted to take off back to my base in kaduna and immediately i started it, it started giving over heating alarm. After thorough checking I realised the water was leaking. So I had to delay my journey till I can see a mechanic n after seeing him he said I should put stoppage fluid or something. It blocks every hole Was what he called the work. I paid him 5k and he did it and the stuff didnt stop. I could not risk the car to kaduna so I was looking for alternative. Later on the mechanic said I will change the water collector that it was the culprit and he collected another 15k. Well he said the water collector didnt work with it bla bla bla so this time I decided to buy another 2013 matrix till the car will be in perfect shape. I went back to Kaduna with the Matrix and few days afterwards I sent 20k to the mechanic to get a new water collector and fix the Audi. He did after a week and called its in good shape. On getting back to ekiti I realised he connected the cooling fan and the AC together so if I dnt use the AC the cooling fan won't work and before it will pick I need to match the gas. Well I left for Kaduna the next day and I used less than 7hours. I met someone who uses the kind of car and he said his mechanic is In akure that the guy is perfect and once and for all I decided to fix the car so I did a video call with the man and after we spoke I took the car down ending of February. Though I just wanted to sell the car but it was my childhood crush and have spent a lot on it. Finally the guy said his going to buy some stuffs and redo the wiring my mechanic and rewire did and I also complained about the fuel consumption and he did he will buy one sensor everything 35k and workmanship 20. Everything sha 50k. I paid and the car was perfect last 2 week I started experiencing some major issues with it along zaria road I parked at jaji to greet a colleague and I realised the neck of the car or should I say steering locked. I used the key all to no avail and after like 1hr it worked on its own. It repeated this twice or more wasting my time etc. Thats my dilemma rn. Please can anyone help with this issue.

You shouldn't own an Audi in Nigeria if you aren't ready to get a repair manual, some tools, a diagnostic tool and some automotive electronic knowledge. The car is too complex for 99 percent of our mechanics. The top 1 percent that know would drain your wallet extensively.

Have used an A2 before sir though my mums and the car didnt give an issue it still at home bouncing and working perfectly. Infact the engine was just changed again and we changed the interior seats to leather etc. The car made me love up Audi. Though the electrical devices can't measure up to the A4. Rift now I just need a solution to the A4.

It is rather unfortunate that in this country, it is the customer that bears the brunt of incompetencies of some techs. Sometimes, this is due to action of customer looking for the cheapest service. If you are using any european car, especially german, you need a competent tech with access to service manual and diagnostic equipment to prode the car for dtcs. The skill set and equipment to properly diagnose those cars do not come cheap. I wonder how some mechanics know the problem of modern cars off head. Are they wizards? I realise that it is always cheaper in the long run to pay for the right diagnosis as this eliminates trial and error approach. You (the customer) pay for the parts and labour that do not fix the problem- not the incompetent mechanic. The problem of the car can easily be resolved if the car is here in lagos.

Mere speculations can be annoying. If you are a German car specialist, we can arrange a way to it after the imposed curfew.

I assume the cooling system issues are already resolved. The steering lock issues you have sound like an ignition switch problem at an early stage.

If you have another key, try it and see if result is same.

If same, disconnect the battery heads for like 15 minutes and see if it resolves the issue. If it doesn't, you may need to replace the lock cylinder. If you wait till the key absolutely doesn't turn, you will have to replace the entire ignition switch assembly.

Meanwhile scan the car for codes before anything, you never know what you may find.

Have to go back to genesis. Right now it’s either you sell as scrap or hold enough cash and take said vehicle to Radautoworks at Lekki after this lockdown. I have a reason for recommending her outfit and it’s so you’ll enjoy your car for years before dashing someone else

Ps, we don’t know what those carpenters destroyed under your bonnet in the name of repairs

Bros, please ask him if he bought it from cars 45? Jokes aside, Audi is not allowed to be used in Nigeria unless the op has deep pockets. My cousin had an A6 2007 and after spending over a million to fix it to no avaIL, he sold it to his mechanic for 300k and everytime I see the car, the mechanic is always working on the car.

The truth about Audi in Nigeria is that they are quickly destroyed by our fuel. I see the new ones sold locally and I marvel how they survive in the country. I have a touareg in my office and the cost of repairs is 450k and to buy the car is 200k for demolition. The owner abandoned it. We towed it from warri where my colleagues did their own thing and ruined the car. To buy a vw car right now is hell fire reloaded on earth. There is still a glimmer of hope. Try and look for octane booster any type except Abro and continuously use it and as it is written on the oil cover, use Castrol. And restore all the tropicalised gadgets that my colleagues did to the car. Buy the Vag for your mechanic but don't let him use your car for testing because it is one thing to own one and another thing to interpret the codes. Even if you get a good mechanic, if you are not using premium unleaded fuel only, just give it out. How many Audi do you find on the road except Audi 80?

Like you were told, focus on the key before you will be stranded on the road. Change the ignition lock or look for a new key but before then, remove all the gadgets that my colleagues did on the car. Let it be back to factory default. Your fan must work with the thermostat.

Its not about the key or ignition lock. Like I said the car is eve barely 3month old. And it came with extra key. When this steering lock happens, I used to try all the keys all to futility and after like an hour or several minute on its on it unlocks or once I put the key like it had no issue it just unlocks ad five perfectly like nothing ever happened. Talking about taking it back to factory settings, I already did that with the mechanic who collected 50k. Though I dnt know if he replaced the thermostat coz I was informed by him that the previous guy removed the thermostat when the over heating issue occurred

Shop rite. Any of their outlets. The key issue once happened to me in my E240 Benz years ago. Sometimes I will be stuck with it for over an hour and then it will open and starts. Once I was on the highway and I had a flat tyre and after changing it, I started the car and it didn't suck. Tow trucks came and they could do nothing because the cannot drag it and it was getting late. By 7.30 in the evening, it sucked and started. It finally died in Abuja and I went to Capital Motors and they could not get it right. I went back to Lagos to collect the mechanical key and It worked fine till it expired. I was told that the mechanical key will work for 6 months and then I will be on my own. Last Las I changed the brain box, the hammer and the eis and things went back to normal. If by chance, you follow this advice, make sure that the serial number on the ECU matches with the one in your car. It must be the same model or that will be the end of the car

It is a used car. Ignition switch failure is very common in that generation of Audi. It is worth looking at.
