The government is helpless in the current situation.

Nevertheless, if the impact of the pandemic does not get as bad as predicted for the West and other trade partners of Nigeria then we might not be caught in as bad a situation as predicted by the IMF.

So, as much as we hope and pray for our nation, so must we also for those we depend on for imports and exports. We need them to remain healthy for our government to remain solvent. Imagine the downward trend continues in the US, the blowback on the world economy would be catastrophic, especially for developing and third world countries. NGOs which employ our friends and families would become part of the first casualties. As funding gets slashed for them, so would their workforce.

The scariest of all is the current price of oil at the international market. It portends grave danger for our economy.

We have been crying all the past years diversify the economy to agriculture, solid mineral, and other sectors

But to no avail.

Let Buhari continue borrowing money generations unborn can not pay.

Now government across the 36 states of the Nigeria federation are lockdowning their people from sourcing for their daily bread.

Some of these states lockdown have not generated much number of infected coronavirus patients to even deserve this senseless lockdown which aimed at looting public funds.

Who even care about their 1 cup of rice palliative that is not worth a seed of cocoyam.

Hunger is now spreading like wildfire because of Buhari failure to shutdown the international borders which large number of infected persons entered Nigeria.

NIGER DELTA REGION HAVE BREASTFED NIGERIA FOR OVER 50 YEARS WITH CRUDE OIL MONEY which the nation particularly northern Nigeria did not appreciate.

Niger delta region bankrolled Nigeria budgets, federal allocation, debt.

The goose that laid the golden egg was not catered for, neither was she appreciated..

Nigeria is Respected and Feared not because of our Economy or leaders!

Nigeria is Feared because Nigeria is a Spiritual Heavy Weight!

Well, it is hinged on it... Why is Nigeria's case so peculiar in the midst of other renown African nations??!...

We have never been far from recession under this administration... Using Covid-19 as a sole cause will merely smack of naivety. It will only worsen a state we were generally headed.
The whole world is in a recession. Even in the might west, they're growth is in the negative. There's absolutely no way, ANY country could have avoided this.
The world is interconnected. Plus I'm sure you saw the part where growth is expected to climb up to 2.4% come next year.

Is it the Coronavirus that will cause the recession or our government’s approach to fighting the virus, as adviced by experts in the same category as the ones predicting a bleak future for us?

The point is, the whole world is in a recession. The mighty west are not spared and everyone is reeling from the effect.
Has absolutely nothing to do with Buhari. After all, the same article says by next year, when everything would have died down, growth should be back up at 2.4%

1. Nigeria is NOT an advanced economy
2. Every oil economy that prepared since 2015 was not hit hard this time, Buhari failed to prepare.
3. Buhari's incompetence caused this lockdown, we could have avoided it after the Italian index case.
4. With the exception of African economies reliant on tourism, we've weathered the storm well.
What do you mean by Buhari's incompetence? Would you say same about France, UK, USA, Germany, Italy?
All power houses that are reeling from the effect of the covid-19?

President Buhari wasted money searching for oil in the north because the money for the project was not from the north but from the Niger delta region.

So he can afford to trash Niger delta crude oil to the wastebin in that dastardly illusive search.
To him as at then he was meeting the heart desire of the average northerners who was dreaming of sweet crude oil in their northern domain.

But what is crude oil price today at the international oil market?

It is below $30.

Even at that price alone Nigeria is still unable to sell its over 50 barrels of crude loaded and berthing in international waters in the high seas due to the outbreak of coronavirus.

That money that he wasted on NNPC searching for crude oil in the northern states should have been spent to revive the ailing power sectors which over the years have provided epileptic services.

If the power sectors is revived it will lift other dead sectors of the Nigeria economy especially small businesses.

Many Nigerians can afford to employ themselves outside government jobs but they need electricity to function.

Another good option is to invest in the agricultural sectors that is also a huge employer of labour.
We have vast fertile lands suitable for agriculture in all regions of Nigeria.

I call Buhari 's action penny wise pound foolish.

Until Nigeria 's political leadership develop the capacity to think outside the box and then rule their people with honest character devoid of nepotism and corruption.

Nigeria route to greatness may probably be very long.

We are in a fix. WHO shouts at us to lockdown IMF complains we are about to slide into recession. If at the expiration of 2weeks we see no reduction in covid-19 its better we open up essential industries and commercial hubs to avoid a calamity.

There are Major happenings all over the world Today.

Before they come out to do certain things physically there are heavy high Spiritual consultations that are done. Infact things are Concluded Spirtually before they carry it out physically..

If you have been alert for some time now you will notice that certain Nations, Organizations and people have been concerned about Nigeria.

Few days Zakari of CNN mentioned that Nigeria should be carried along in this Covid stuff and all that

Melinda gates mentioned Nigeria again

Now this again!

I perceive they have a target but due to High powered Prayers going on in Nigeria, they are finding it difficult to subdue Spiritually.

There is nothing spiritual about this. It's cause and effect.

If you do nothing, then nothing happens. As simple as that.

To those claiming that other countries like US, Europe would go into recession too, kindly compare your standard of living now with theirs!

Now with recession, they would still manufacture goods, enjoy existing infrastructure, 24 hrs electricity, potable water, heating, security, healthcare, and all their measures of good standard plus they would tap into their social insurance that have been saved for decades. Things may just be more expensive there and with fewer jobs than before.

But in Nigeria, this won't be the case and we all know that!

So please quit the baseless spirituality and unenlightened arguments from a poor knowledge of economies.

Our past presidents if it’s only road they can do our problems is solving little by little,if our past president have done the little they can do we won’t be in this situation .now Buhari that his trying to help you say is the worst president, you won’t know his effort it’s in future that you will all appreciate his efforts and love he has for this country.
A desvastated country takes a time to be build.

Because of the effort of Buhari if others president will continue his work,in nearest future Nigeria will control the world, where the world will always look up to before they make decisions for their country
Where all our Nigerians abroad will come home, where we will no longer want to travel and abandon our country.
Agriculture is the best ,Buhari is trying to let us invest in agriculture for the future because a time will come where petroleum will be useless, they will make use of gas
In time most car will use gas not petroleum, where petroleum is the major revenue for Nigeria.buhari is trying to stop all this for future.
Buhari is trying to stop importation so that we can also be exporting ,so that our money will have value .
You never see all this all maybe you’re all pretending ,stop abusing Buhari, after yar-auda buhari is the best president so far.

Its a shame each time i read views about issue i find out that 90 percent of people who comment on naira land are illiterates. Read the reason for the recession. Germany,uk,France, usa are all heading for recession. That's what the imf just explained. Learn to read and understand b4 jumping into conclusion. Over 200 countries are suffering from covid 19. The worst hit are the G7. Coronavirus is the cause of all the recession. Shame to you guys who read but no Brain to understand.

Buhari cannot fix the economy. When 80% of our revenues come from oil, what are you expecting? The demand of oil is getting smaller yearly, soon most cars in Europe will rely on Electricity by 2030. Once Europe goes electric, you can expect America and the rest of the world to follow. What needs to be done is the electrification of the whole Nigeria if Nigeria wants to move forward and stop depending on oil for revenue. The man who should taking charge of this project should be Buhari but once again I am only dreaming. Till then, we continue to be the poorest country in the world.
