Trump halts World Health Organization funding over handling of coronavirus outbreak

(CNN) President Donald Trump announced Tuesday he is halting funding to the World Health Organization while a review is conducted.

Trump said the review would cover the WHO's "role in severely mismanaging and covering up the spread of coronavirus."

Trump's announcement comes in the middle of the worst global pandemic in decades and as he angrily defends his own handling of the outbreak in the United States.

'Trump’s Decision To Cut Funding Will Affect Africa’

Prof. Babatunde Salako, Director-General, Nigerian Institute of Medical Research (NIMR), has said that U.S. decision to cut funding to the World Health Organisation (WHO) would have great implication on the fight against COVID-19.

Salako made the remark in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Lagos. He said the decision would have great consequence on African countries and other regions who depended on the organisation’s assistance at this critical moment.

The U. S. President, Donald Trump, during his daily press briefing on coronavirus on April 14, announced that the country would halt funding to WHO.

Trump accused the organisation of severely mismanaging and covering up the spread of the virus.

Salako said: “The World Health Organisation is at the forefront of disease control and the body has been offering technical and financial assistance to countries in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. “These assistance is very important to African countries in the ongoing war against the virus.

“Most African countries don’t have money to manage their affairs not to talk about pandemic like this. “Trump’s decision is going to have great consequence to Africa and other regions of the world where they depend on WHO assistance to fight this virus”.

Meanwhile, Salako said the institution had sequenced two cases of COVID-19 and deposited the genes in the GeneBank.

“As part of our research work on coronavirus, we were able to look at the composition of the virus genomically. “We compared it with the first virus and confirmed that it is the same virus. “There is a whole lot of research that we can carry out on COVID-19 but we lack the funds needed to carry out this research, ” he said. I really need to know why we all assume the WHO should have doubted China's account of this novel virus.

Why should any normal country allow such a virus to spread?
In the history of epidemics and pandemics, no country has ever tried to lie about the spread of a disease and purposefully allowed it to spread all around the world like a wild fire.
So why would the WHO doubt China's account? Africans didn't lie about Ebola or tried to cover it up, Even the same China didn't lie about the SARS virus in 2003 (unless they did lots of cover ups and lies that the world didnt ever discover).
So why would the WHO doubt their account NOW and double check data given to them?
Meanwhile, I'm sure the WHO has an office in China, filled with Chinese people who would only do the bidding of their communist government.
China gave the world a dirty blow, and WHO was also used as a pawn in China's shenanigans.
There should be a code of conduct to be respected amongst governments and every normal person would think global health should be prioritized by all nations, but we only realised too late that China is raving maddd....
Anyway, before I talk too much, why do you blame the WHO?
