Why Did Judas Iscariot Betray Jesus Christ? by Acehart: 11:48am On Apr 18, 2020
Judas Iscariot is referred to as the last of the 12. Judas was the son of Simon, who was called “Iscariot”. The name “Iscariot” means “man of Kerioth”; Kerioth was a small town in Judea about 23 miles south of Jerusalem. Of the 12 disciples of Jesus, he was the only non-Galilean.

The secret to knowing what irked Judas into betraying Christ is the statement Christ made in Simon the leper’s house: “She has come beforehand to anoint My body for burial”.

In the days leading to Jesus’ arrest, Jesus had told His disciples He would lay down His life, that is, He would surrender Himself over to His adversaries. The Gospels show that He predicted His arrest and death about four times.

So, what irked Judas Iscariot to such an extent that he considered betraying His master?

Now, the sentiments making the rounds in Judea, Judas’ homeland, was: Jesus Christ is the Messiah that would deliver Israel from colonialism; He would take the seat of His father, David, and rule Israel (as the scriptures had said); Hence, the great cry: Hosanna! Hosanna! Hosanna! (“Hosanna” the Hebrew word for “save”, “rescue” or “help”) when He made His entry into Jerusalem (on a donkey). Judas’ postulation from the very beginning had been that Christ would become a powerful religious and political leader; and his allegiance with Christ would be of great benefit, materially and politically. (This Judaean, Judas Iscariot, could have been brought up religiously to be familiar with the reading of “The Prophets” regularly in Jerusalem - that the Messiah would come, reign and prosper).

However, in the days leading to Jesus’s arrest, Jesus had greatly limited His miraculous acts and often announced His impending death to His disciples, putting paid to Judas’ ambition; with Jesus’ statement concerning the breaking of the alabaster box of oil by Mary being the straw that broke the camel’s back.

With the prospect of ridicule (in that his kinsmen would shame him for supporting a charlatan) and failure (in that his ambition was thwarted; and rather than return home with a shout of victory, he would return empty-handed and without recompense for his service to Christ) staring him in the face, he disdained Jesus for having wasted three years of his life; and he headed to the council of high priests in a move to save face - to be hailed as one who delivered Israel from a pretender and return home in riches.

In the quest to protect his image, Judas Iscariot forgot one of life’s important principles: dignity is more important than wealth. Christ would have rewarded him according to His word in Proverbs 22:4: The reward of humility and the fear of the Lord are riches, honor and life; Judas lost all three rewards.

He was so disappointed when Jesus said, "My kingdom is not of this World". Judas was like what? But I am following you so that I can be made Finance Minister. And now you are talking not of this World?

Ok since you said you will be killed let me use that opportunity for small cash. Being that it was already a prophecy in the Bible, devil jumped in and fulfiled his heart desire.

Dante, I’d like to ask you this: if what qualifies as “the gospel“ were books or letters written and authorized by the Holy Spirit after Day Of the Feast of Pentecost, more than forty days after Judas Iscariot kicked the bucket; who wrote the Gospel of Judas Iscariot (who didn’t receive the gift of the Holy Spirit)?

I believe and as I always say,it is my personal opinion at the council of Nicea (after Constantine the Great recognised Christianity as the state religion of the Roman empire) there were a lot of gospels of the story of Jesus were floating around. None of the names on any of the gospels including Mathew,Mark,Luke and John were the real names of the authors of these books. They were just pseudonyms.
So at the council of Nicea the more powerful bishops were able to insert their gospels into what became the Christian bible claiming these books were inspired. The gospels of their weaker opponents were declared as heresy and banned and ordered to be burned. One of such heretical books is the mentioned gospel of Judas.
In my opinion the Victor's write history and in the case of the bible the victorious bishops decided what qualified to be in the bible and they decided the books that did not make the cut.

You need to goggle about the council of Nicea, the council of Sirdea and the council of Constatinople and the Emperor Constatine.
You may also want to read about Constantines mother Empress Helena who gave Christianity the symbol of the cross.
It's all there on goggle if you decide to look it up.

ok
the Bible made to understand that Judas loved money and always wanted more in every situation. he had seen Jesus perform great deeds and he might thought of playing a fast one on the Jewish council. he probably took their money hoping that they wouldn't be able to catch Jesus or Jesus might escape since he is the son of God...
he was full of regret at Jesus death which might mean that he was sad they his thought and plan failed.

True: the Bible says, Judas Iscariot loved money. But it also says, Judas Iscariot betrayed Jesus Christ. If betrayal means treachery - to give up someone to be destroyed, punished or condemned, then this recurrent word "betrayal" in the narrative of Judas' action against Christ doesn't agree with your conclusion - playing a fast one on the Sanhedrin.

When Jesus said to Judas, "that which thou doest do it quickly"; the scriptures said Satan entered into Judas. But we know that Satan only seeks to steal, kill and destroy (commit treason in this case and all cases: remember the treason in Heaven and the Garden of Eden). Satan's vocation became Judas' intention.

So your conclusion falls short of the meaning of the Judas narrative. I appreciate your response and it is one possibility I thought of.

Judas was a greedy and confused motherf. The thing is Judas has secretly being nursing the idea of being holder of the office of the Chancellor of the Exchequer (i.e. Finance Minister) when the champion Messiah prophesied and promised the Israelites instals Himself. Judas was a secular man, a carnal man, not a spirit minded man and so he got the whole theology about Jesus Christ and His purpose for coming on earth completely wrong. The bible at Ephesians 4:27, warns us not to give place to the devil, as if given an inch, will himself a ruler over the person and if given a foot, will make into a mile.

No doubt, Judas, because of the very important soon to be coming Passover festival, when all Israelities wherever in the world they are, yearly return back home to Jerusalem, as pilgrims or otherwise, for the Passover festival had been calculated on this as a good opportunity "forced" Jesus' hand, that will give Him, no other choice than to be the Messianic champion prophesied and promised the Israelites. Little did Judas know that his judgement and scheming is clouded by his self interest and self-gain.

Anyway, trotting along, Jesus being God, as in meaning, He can see what's in man's heart. He can see what thoughts man is nursing in his/her heart, already knew that Judas was a traitor, so when the appropriate time was drawing closer, Jesus wanting to get the whole thing over and done with, messaged Judas, just as read in John 13:27 above, that "look mate, get on it with. Do what you have to do", so Judas like a mumu too, got up, thinking to himself, lovely jobbly, this baby is going to work out according to play. What a crafty bastard I am and a soon to be wealthy one for that matter too, lol. Kerching!. I apologise for the artistic licence doing overtime earlier there, lol. Anyway, Judas, got up, left the room to go betray His master. The other disciples in the room thought, he's gone on an official sent errand. They werent any the wiser of his treachery. Judas betrayed our Lord and Saviour of the whole wide world, Yahshua Ha Mashiach aka Jesus Christ, for sheer Power and Money. He thought that when Jesus said, "Go on. Go do quickly, what you have to do" was a validation and an OK sign, implying that, what he was about to go do was acceptable by Jesus. Smh. How far he totally and completely missed it. The rest is history.

It was a biggest disappoint for Judas, after betraying Yahshua Ha Mashiach aka Jesus Christ, that event did not turn out the way he has anticipated. He was surprised that Yahshua Ha Mashiach, did not resist arrest by the Roman guards. Shocked that Yahshua Ha Mashiach did not slip into the Messianic champion prophesied and promised the Israelites role, the Messianic champion who will deliver the Israelites from the domination, tyranny, oppression and subjugation of them by Rome. He couldnt believe how things unfolded, that Yahshua Ha Mashiach aka Jesus Christ, was humble, He did not struggle nor fight back, that He went meekly and silently, just as if, like a Lamb led to slaughter. Judas soon realised what a miscalaculation he's made, he must has somehow realised that Yahshua Ha Mashiach aka Jesus Christ, this Messiah, is not tribal, is not a local champion, wasnt meant only or solely meant, as prophesied and promised, for Israel's salvation, liberty and/or freedom, but it is a bigger picture prophecy and promise. It is prophecy and promise about a universal Champion, a heavenly Spiritual Champion, not an earthly physical and military champion. This is the stuff spiritual, is made up from.

For Judas, it was too late. Judas had, with the betrayal, crossed the line of no return. It is impossible to put back together a broken up and opened egg. Judas became tormented. He ran back to the Sanhedrin, the council of Israelite religious leaders with the High Priest, begging saying literally, "This is an innocent man. I dont want the money any more. Have your blood money back. I dont want it. I dont want any to do with it nor His death, an innocent man sef. Have it. Have it back. Take your blood money from me" The Sanhedrin, I would guess, prolly laughed at Judas. Told him to scoot along, to scram, dissappear and go enjoy his thirty pieces of silver. He threw the money at them before going to hang himself, so the Sanhedrin, dutifully used the same thirty pieces of silver to purchase the grave he later was buried in. Why waste their own money in buying a burial plot for a traitor, they prolly were thinking and even saying good riddance to bad rubbish too, smiling to themselves and they were dusting their hands

Your artistic license didn’t only do overtime; it did double overtime, beat the traffic light and hit route 65 at 235mph. I knew you would give me something lengthy to read (that’s why I don’t follow you) grin

People may say God forced Judas’ hand against Jesus because it was prophesied; and prophecy must be fulfilled. But when I read Jeremiah’s vision of rotten figs, I realize that all sinners (under the right S.T.P. (standard temperature and pressure) cheesy) are Judases. Only one rotten fig had to be picked and the lot fell to Judas.

I’m glad I didn’t bore you guys with something fancy and thoughtless. It’s nice my conclusion was alright with you and inforesource. Someone I respect a lot said: I can’t hear music for the noise that is on the inside - this was the case with that traitor - the spiritual was playing and all he could hear were his carnal thoughts.

As for about "... it was prophesied; and prophecy must be fulfilled...", nah, mba, "it was prophesied; and prophecy must be fulfilled" because God is Omniscient. He is knows everything. He knows the end from the beginning, that is why it is so easy, to prophesy and thereafter have the prophecy fulfilled, lol

It’s nice my conclusion was alright with you and inforesource. Someone I respect a lot said: I can’t hear music for the noise that is on the inside - this was the case with that traitor - the spiritual was playing and all he could hear were his carnal thoughts.

For because of the power trees, Judas couldnt see clearly the woods. For the because of the money trees, he couldnt clearly see the forest. They both blocked Judas' view of the wood or forest, lol. He couldnt see the bigger picture

The lesson to be learned is best demonstrated by Joseph, former prime minister of Egypt, who when confronted with a compromising "Make love to me" request, quickly ejected himself sharp, sharp, even to the extent of leaving his garment behind because he was in a hurry to get the h' out of there. King David, on the other, stood taking in, admiring and salivating at, if given a chance, what he can and is capable of doing to such a fine specimen daughter of man, lol, but of course, sin is crouching on the doorstep, patiently waiting for opportunities when to spring in to action. Exactly what happened to Judas, he by nature was a worldly man, not really spiritual. He was a pretender and an actor, lol. Judas, was a time bomb, he was a disaster waiting to happen, lol. He probably didnt know. He prolly wasnt aware, but Yahshua Ha Mashiach aka Jesus Christ sure did know. Yeah, He knew and so why He kept Judas closer, as meaning, be part of His inner caucus.

I reiterate, lol, incidentally God fulfilling our heart’s desires, is just exactly how Saul got the appointed to be crowned king of Israel. Besides the king Saul, this is how exactly sin, in the very first place originated, lol. That right there, is Bible, lol. Judas, Hitler, etcetera are no exceptions, lol

And that is why the heart must be well guarded with all diligence, devil always lurk around to help actualise conceived damnable thoughts.
inforesource:

Remember the popular Bible verse, "As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he".

Reality is a foreign religion because many of us worship delusions.
