barrydee:I dont know anybody who has died but I know people who know people who have died. It is precisely because I dont want to know anybody who will die that we need to keep the lockdown for as long as it takes! I repeat again...they (Ghana's govt) are fools!! They have just had the number of cases DOUBLE from 600 to over 1000 in just 2 days and in their infinite foolishness they decide to call off the lockdown, Even China that thought they had the virus under control have had over 1000 new infections in the last 2 days from having zero for almost a week. I will bookmark this page and remind you when they are forced to lock down their country again! |

Seun:Home face masks can be made effective, just put enough layers of tissue paper inside the mask, ignite a flash and try to blow through the face mask with the flame in front of your face, if the flame does not move, then you are good. Though remember to wash then frequently and spray sanitizers in front in-between use. Agreed, it could be looked at as been deceptive, but the main purpose for delaying telling the general public not to use face mask is strategic, this way health workers & hospitals on the frontline who are more exposed can stock up on them, before the buying hysteria by the public. |

I've argued in some fora that the government didn't need to lock down the economy. New ways of socializing could be invented- new normals ,like wearing of face masks and hand gloves. In short, face masks are the NEW CONDOMS. |

Three key points he made in his speech; 1. Face mask will be made mandatory but the government can't distribute free mask to everyone. Target groups are market women, etc. 2. People should go for locally manufactured mask and leave the N95 mask for medical professionals. 3. Covid-19 will get worse in Lagos state before it gets better. We have not reached the peak. 4. |

I can remember one nairalander saying that face mask doesn't do anything, and to my surprise he even said scientist claims mask doesn't prevent coronavirus. He had 300 likes. This is to tell you the type of people we have on Nairaland. You see, some people went to school and they became graduates, but don't have that thinking faculty to profer a solution when the need arises. I also came about a thread where a guy was kinda seeking for people opinions on how to curtail the spread of COVID-19, but still the moods keep feeding us with Abba k. We ain't ready to progress in this country. The governments ain't to be blamed. |

Kylekent59:Mask stops people from spreading it, but doesn't protect the wearer. There were confusions initially about the use of mask. But it is still advisable that people wear it since one may be asymptomatic and still be able to spread it. |

isthatso:Let them be. They don't know what is happening. We are still at the bottom of the curve and they are rejoicing and clamouring to go back to their businesses. When we get to the tip of the curve, more than 1000 death will be recorded daily here in Lagos owing to its congestion. I thank God that I have the means to subject myself to voluntary isolation till July. I have been following CNN,BBC and Aljazeera for two months now. One thing with Africans is that we take things for granted until we start regretting. |

My only worry about terminating this lockdown is children. Risk of infection in children, especially those under 5 who cannot be security conscious might be high. However, just like someone pointed out , the lockdown measure is not sustainable. I pray a vaccine/cure is found soon. #Seun, the controversy regarding how effective nose masks are, is another issue. I watched a video once in which a self acclaimed American doctor claimed only N95 masks are effective. Proper orientation is needed. Are regular masks effective or not, people need to know. |
