I hope the govt will provide facemasks to its residents.

Thats how responsible govts do.

You cant mandate people to purchase face masks when they dont even have enough to eat.

Face masks are luxury to some lagosians, its important the LASG provide them.

My only worry about terminating this lockdown is children. Risk of infection in children, especially those under 5 who cannot be security conscious might be high. However, just like someone pointed out , the lockdown measure is not sustainable. I pray a vaccine/cure is found soon.

#Seun, the controversy regarding how effective nose masks are, is another issue. I watched a video once in which a self acclaimed American doctor claimed only N95 masks are effective. Proper orientation is needed. Are regular masks effective or not, people need to know.

Schools cannot resume till at least may ending or june

I can remember one nairalander saying that face mask doesn't do anything, and to my surprise he even said scientist claims mask doesn't prevent coronavirus. He had 300 likes.

This is to tell you the type of people we have on Nairaland.

You see, some people went to school and they became graduates, but don't have that thinking faculty to profer a solution when the need arises.

I also came about a thread where a guy was kinda seeking for people opinions on how to curtail the spread of COVID-19, but still the moods keep feeding us with Abba k.

We ain't ready to progress in this country. The governments ain't to be blamed.

You cannot really blame the guy. There is a lot of misinformation out there. Like I mentioned earlier, I once watched a doctor explain that masks are ineffective against the Corona virus. I hope the Lagos State government carries out a massive campaign to explain to people how protective masks are, how to use them effectively etc.

Everyone cannot afford n95 mask... It is either the govt provides for us all, or we are allowed to use localky-made mask

Stop parroting rubbish. This is a lie from the west. If everyone wears masks no matter the type the community will be better protected.
I stand by my statement.
I literally said "if everybody is wearing a mask the spread will be drastically reduced."

Just know that different masks are designed to do different things.

Learn to understand before you go calling something rubbish.

but one million face masks is too small to a population of more than 15 million active citizens, this govt is too stingy when it comes to spending for the welfare of the masses. any way its still better if only they lift this lockdown, at least my ibo brothers 'll fill the gap in the supply of quality face masks to lagosians at affordable prices.
hunger-virus is more far-reaching than coronavirus. e.g because of hunger, security-forces 've been able to kill more citizens in Nigeria than the dreaded coronavirus, as they apply absolute force to sustain lockdown of hungry nigerians, as they only hear of audio palliatives.

It is more risky to put on face mask if it is not replaced on a daily basis. Secondly, it could be infected without knowing it. Besides, people don't have money to eat, you want them to put on face mask. How is it possible? Government should provide the face mask first, at least 30 per person and it should not be from China. I don't trust them.

Mask stops people from spreading it, but doesn't protect the wearer. There were confusions initially about the use of mask. But it is still advisable that people wear it since one may be asymptomatic and still be able to spread it.

I think it protects the wearer, especially, if he/she wears eyeglasses in addition. If your nose, mouth, and eyes are all covered, it's hard to contract it. Except, of cause, you rub your contaminated hands on your facial features.

So you still listen to W.H.O on that? Thesame W.H.O organisation that told us covid-19 is not transmitted by human to human? Wearing nose mask is very very important.
Who is listening to the Chinese owned WHO?

People need to know what the functions of the different types of masks are.
N95: designed to filter 95% of particulates in the air.
Surgical masks: designed for surgeons to cover their mouths and nose so that they don't infect their patients while performing surgery.

At the end of the day if everyone is at least wearing a mask, the spread will be drastically reduced.

the govt should beef up security at night or else...... kidnapping and robbery will flare up

But W.H.O doesn’t recommend face mask for people who are not sick.
Face mask will increase the chance of being infected if used wrongly.

Seun:
I remember predicting that the reign of the Coronavirus would come to an end when people started wearing face masks. It is gradually coming to pass. The reason the entire world is in this mess is that the Asians, who produce most face-masks and other personal protection equipment, blocked their manufacturers from exporting them to the rest of the world because they knew that they would be needed to protect their people.

Instead of the West to respond by mobilizing their manufacturers to produce face-masks massively, so that they would be able to protect their people, they started a deceptive campaign to discourage people from using them. The campaign was so effective that people who wore face-masks were mocked and shamed by those who had been brainwashed. People who had face-masks were pressured into giving them away.

Now they grudgingly accept that face-masks are helpful but instead of producing adequate quantities of the quality face-masks that have been proven to be effective - the kind of masks that most Asians are wearing - they are asking people to use less effective home-made masks.

You have a point. I'm concerned about those who quickly speak against any measure used to fight the virus. They did same for face mask and for Chloroquine too.

They want people to just do nothing.

Capitalism vs Socialism. WEST vs East. NOTHING else matters. People are focusing on what the media is focusing on, which in of its self is a proven mistake. The real fault lines will never be discussed by media because information is power and with great power requires...

Go back to the start, forget the smokescreen and distractions. The issue will always be economics and geopolitical power.

The fall of oil prices, the dollar, western financial system, stock markets...

My sister, that may likely happen if other states adopt and trust same measure(masks). Otherwise they may elect to keep visitors, especially those from Lagos, out of their states.

Oga Seun, I personally think face masks cannot solve the problem.

Face masks should be used with severe caution else it might even scale up the rate of spread. People should be well educated on how to use face masks, if not it’s gonna a total waste of time. Because of the scarcity in face mask, it’s advisable to reserve the available ones for frontline health workers and sick people.

I also think face masks in our society of uneducated people won’t really make any difference because a lot of people will use them inappropriately. It will only give people false feeling of protection.

Health care reform is coming and needed. But the reforms will be expensive, require many of us to give up something and will take a very long time before we iron out all the challenges.
