Thank you ma.
We used it formula for few days and stopped it when breast milk started flowing.

Ohemababy:

I had the same issue with my first and still did not lactate for a long time. So my son was always taking Aptamil.

Make I no lie I no too like the breastfeeding thing because he dey pain me. So for this new baby on the way am seriously saving to buy other formulas I heard are good too like Similac, Enfamil to combine with breastmilk. wink

Thank you ma for your response.

We used it for few days and also breast milk is now flowing.

miraclebaby:
Congrats ma. Please get formular for baby till you start lactating. Don't starve him. Also try and be putting him to breast frequently as they say it helps to trigger lactation.

Baby is doing fine

Awesomemama:

Congrats mama
Please give formula till you start lactating so baby doesn't starve.
You can ditch formula when you start lactating well.
Takes lots of water, pap, oats n try to have enough rest.

I've been having pains in my left tummy since yesterday evening, it felt like something is pinching me from within and anytime baby moves or kick me there the pain becomes times 2, If I turn to the right side baby will move there too with painful kicks its so uncomfortable that I couldn't lie down to sleep at night, at a point I became scared thinking maybe labour is abt to start but I'm just 31weeks 4days, I endured the pain till this morning after which I took paracetamol before I got relieved, I will be due in June, please who has experienced this before, hope its not something bad, I noticed baby was extremely active during the whole time turning and kicking hard, I wonder what could cause it but I feel better now

Hello everyone, I was team September in 2017 and now I am team December 2020. Who else realises they are pregnant even before a missed period?

I did. I knew I was pregnant from the very moment of conception! grin

I'm 5weeks gone.

P.S. I need clarifications on some things. I'm yet to start antenatal as I think hospitals are unsafe at this time. So, please, I need advice and instructions on how to cope without antenatal... what are the things I can do for and by myself. Hubby already got me pregnacare original. Do I need any more than that? Sister-in-law said I could get more folic acid, but pregnacare already contains 400mcg of folic acid, which I understand to be the exact daily requirement.
For now, I'm not exhibiting any annoying symptoms except peeing a lot more frequently and my breasts being fuller.

This is my first pregnancy ever and I'm super excited. EDD is Dec 22nd.

My Birth Story...

So I'm not sure how my application to be enlisted as an April mama was missed, even though I did apply early, but I thought to leave it be, because I realized I would not always be here to respond to roll calls, which really would not be fair...

Pregnancy was a joyride. Maybe not so much as my first, but again, I may have been overexcited then to not have noticed certain downers. I experienced no morning sickness as before...Also, as against my first, my feet did not get swollen - probably because I did not do pregnacare like one mama here also testified.

Anyway, as I originally requested of God, before the lockdown that would later prevent my mama from coming for omugwo, I went into labour at 39weeks + 3 days. The menstrual-like pains, as opposed to the kind of contractions I experienced for my first that were visibly making my stomach muscles vibrate, started in the wee hours of April 20th morning.

If I didn't know about timing contractions, I probably would have been really confused as to what was going on. I just thought to time the space between the crampings. They started out to be 5/6 minutes apart and after a while, they were just all over the place, leaving me to look out for the show at least, before heading to the hospital. In between, I was sleeping but waking up to more intense cramps.

At around 6am, I was no longer finding the cramps funny, knew it was definitely labour pains and went to take a bath, started to brush my teeth, got irritated midway and stopped. I went to wake DH up and that was were the irritation manifested and I threw up. DH jolted out of bed and went to bring my bag and whatever it was he was running around the house to gather and he drove us to the hospital.

We arrived at the hospital and everything seemed to happen quickly. I was given a pelvic exam by a nurse who said I was 6cm dilated, before a doctor arrived to ask of a late scan report. The only scan I did during ANC was on the day I registered. I was exactly 26 weeks. My ANC doc did not request for another but at my 34th week, he had examined my bump and said that the baby was still in breech. So it was kind of crucial to know the baby's weight and position at that point. Waited and waited in crayzy pains for the scan techies to come and wheel me off...no show. Bloody show too refused to appear, but the pains continued to intensify.

The matron who seemed to be in charge of delivery eventually came to ask for what's keeping me and the doctor told her. Then as if on cue, the nurse who examined me, decided to have mercy abi show expertise by chipping in the fact that she felt the crown or whatever and that baby was not in breech position and that we may go ahead without an ultrasound report.

So I got wheeled up, laid on a bed, was given an injection, I suspect it sped things along...got transferred into another unit within an hour again, a drip was set up and fixed to my canula and I was asked to push when I felt like taking a shite....I can't possibly describe the fire I was feeling all through this, as I felt I was being rushed but at the same time, wanted everything over with. So while on the bed, I pleaded with the nurse that I would not want an episiotomy if possible and she assured me that it's my right to ask for what I wanted and she would try but that I should be aware that it could be necessary, given the fact that we were going in blindly without a late scan report.

So like my first birthing experience again, it got to the pushing part where every woman in labour wish to be right from the onset of labour, and again I could not push. I would oooh and aaahhh, but the nurses would say that I wasn't doing anything. At a point, the matron asked me not to push at the beginning of a contraction, but to count to three after it starts...Even did that, but she said it's my body that's bringing out baby without my conscious effort, but that the baby seems to be big too, cos she could see the head and it was not descending as she expected. Whether or not it was a ploy to change my mind, I was ready to get past that point and so I asked her to do what was necessary. I never talk finish, she carried the special episiotomy scissors and with the next contraction, she gave me the cut. With one more contraction though, the baby seemed to slide out of me and hmnnnnnnn, I still haven't forgotten the kind of relief I became awash with.

Baby again, did not jump out crying like I see in movies, but it took like 5 seconds of immediate rigorous back rubbing to hear that scream. Baby Nathan is a handsome gee that weighed 3.5kg at birth. Local anaesthesia was administered twice for my stitching and I can honestly tell you that the experience wasn't nearly as bad as I have feared all my life. Even right now, I feel okay. I'm not planning to take a look down there anytime soon though.

Here's wishing everyone who is still waddling, easier journeys and deliveries.

Congrats ma'am. Welcome baby Nathan.

I don't know if this is late, but I don't think Procold is good for pregnant women. I use honey and ginger mixed in hot water whenever I have catarrh.
Ohemababy:

You know its somehow to prescribe medication for a pregnant woman. Even Doctors are usually very careful.

I suggest you just take the normal catarrh drugs like procold first if it is safe for use in pregnancy.
If there are no improvements, then you may need to consult your doctor.

As for the headache...me I constantly have headaches so I take paracetamol and rest well.

Get well soon.

Pregnacare is okay but I don't think the 400mcg is sufficient for pregnancy, esp during the first trimester as that is when baby needs more folic acid. The required dosage of folic acid during pregnancy should be 5mg and that's what my hospital gives me.
Mommas that used or are using Pregnacare should give more insight pls.

I use ginger too and garlic.
Then I take vitamins C. But some people dont like to eat garlic or ginger cos I actually eat them raw so I don't know how to ask her to take it too.

Good morning. #TeamSeptember. Well there's something we really need to clarify in this family. No doubt, there's so much conflicting literature and comments on the internet space on the use of Pregnacare/Obron6 and/or B-complex, Folic Acid, Calcium, Ferous et al. Now, the crocs of the matter is, last pregnancy, we didn't take pregnacare at all. All we used was Folic Acid, Calcium, Ferous. But now we're using Pregnacare but combine it with Folic Acid once a day, and Ferous once a day. Now we're adding Calcium also once a day and B-complex once a day. I honestly hope this isn't trying too much but we are doing this because i think you can't get too much of these things.

Secondly, is it compulsory to treat malaria at least twice during pregnancy even if you don't have malaria? Last time out, we did get malaria treatment twice. So if this is very important, at what stages would treatment be recommended and what is the best recommended malaria med.

Thanks.

I read somewhere in the initial part of this thread that the proper thing is to take preventive malaria drugs every 4 weeks, from the second trimester.

Not twice throughout the pregnancy... every 4 weeks.

What should can I do? She's hell bent on attempting another abortion. I don't really think I can convince her to stay till 20weeks cuz by then the pregnancy will be too mature that weather deformed or not, she'll have to put to bed like that....
I need answers pls

Why is she so insistent on an abortion, though?
Doesn't she care for her life and future fertility?
It's just one baby. She should have it, jare.

Wow, congrats, my EDD is December 30th, my calculation and baby centre says I am also 5 weeks gone.. I think it is too early for antenatal (my opinion), I actually went for a scan last week and to FMC umuahia but when the scan ( yes I have a problem with scans, I do scan almost 20times before delivery) said they can't detect any sac yet I decided to go home and wait, besides it is truly scary now going to a hospital because coro isn't written on the face,

Congratulations to you, too, dear.

Yes. At the hospital where I did the scan, I was actually told to come register for antenatal in 3 months' time. So I guess there's nothing to worry about for now.

You may want to reduce your frequency of scans, though. I hear the rays aren't exactly healthy.

I'm happy to know I have a preggy buddy! cheesy

For my first baby I did lots of scan too cheesy.
Any small thing scan just to make sure the baby is fine. This one I have only done 3scans so far and we are about 29weeks. I cant believe it myself.

I guess it was partly because I was not fully engaged then and also the hospital was very close to my house. This time around it's a bit far and I dont av a car so na to just sit down wait for antenatal.

I did a lot of scans for my last 2 pregnancies, at a point the man who always attended to me told me to stop and wait till I'm near delivery, what I did was to change the scan centre to a new place. Fear of Coro is the begining of wisdom so I don't think it would be like that again this time

How are we all coping at this time? May God continue to keep us safe.

Please, i have a concern, i've been purging for 2 days now and it's becoming unbearable. Maybe it's because i took lots of mangoes.
I'm presently 30 weeks, and i want to ask if flagyl and tetra is safe in pregnancy.

I don't think these you mentioned are safe for preggy mommas. Tetracycline leaves the child with a permanent brown discolouration on the teeth. I would suggest that you try homemade remedies like raw pap in water. Above all, don't forget to stay hydrated. Las las, you go dey OK... Cheers
