I am also surprised that neighbours did not report the abuse until it led to her death. Some years back, i always heard the cry of a young girl from the compound next to mine. I didnt know her or the abuser but i knew constant beatings every night wasnt normal. I googled and got some numbers posted online by lagos state govt. I was surprised at the response i got. They called me twice on the same day and asked for détails including house number and location. They called again the following day to assure me that the matter was being investigated. The beatings ceased. How it happened i cant tell but i am convinced beyond doubt that they visited that house.

It is not a must to have a house maid if one doesn’t have the fanancial capacity to service her salary.

If what a house maid does is that very easy, the wife should have opt doing all the house chores instead of employing a house maid.

They employed a house maid and had to start disagreements on salary and arrears which have always been negotiated and settled even before bringing in the maid.

The way some families treat their maids most times doesn’t always make one to have sympathy for the children of the families.

That some of them cannot live without a help is an indication of their personality. Lazy and wickedly wretched people.

Anyway my advice for people that require the use of maid: Don't get a permanent maid that lives with you, get a person that comes to clean,wash and do all other chores for the house and leaves after completing the task for the day. That would minimize violence between the madam and the maid.

Even I know of rich or maybe government level rich people who get people to live with them as househelp and treat them like slaves.

Househelps are a necessity in some homes but the FG needs to have a registration for all househelp agents and workers because it is turning to modern day slavery.
