Amazon will be the first-quoted trillion dollar company in the future

Apple was the first then Microsoft. Unless you mean Amazon will be the first to reemerge as a trillion dollar company after this pandemic.

Breaking news.. Us economy shrinks at rate of 4.8%.

Trade carefully today because this news might affect the stock market today.

The only color I have seen today, both pre-market and right now, is GREEN. Human psychology and behaviour is one of the most difficult things to predict.

Target (TGT) is a major retailer just like Walmart. They reported an explosive increase in online traffic in their recent earnings a few days ago. We've seen many online retailers benefiting from the national lockdown such as Amazon (AMZN), Etsy (ETSY) and Pinterest (PINS). I just bought some shares and call option of this company Stitch Fix (SFIX); they are an online personalized styling service company. Basically they will obtain your measurements and quiz you on your style of clothes; you pay a subscription fee and they pick out and ship clothes that fit your profile. I believe they should also benefit from the pandemic because even if the government reopens the economy, so many people will be scared to immediately step into stores. This is a volatile stock, it can move up or down quick. It's current stock price is $16.45, I may hold till $17 or $18 but there's also a possibility it might drop to $14 where I will sell off completely.

They said I should be posting my trades here.

Stitchfix (SFIX) is up 7% today, there's currently a 37% short interest on the stock. Basically as of 2 weeks ago, traders were predicting this stock will fall so they can make money. I took a contrarian trade based on the fact that I think companies like Stitchfix will benefit from the focus on self isolation and also because if the stock rallies, those same short sellers will have to buy the stock hands over fist to cover their position and that will send the stock even higher (short squeeze).
I bought some shares and call options, profit is about $365, but I might get greedy and hold till the stock crosses $18.

I doubt if any of the trading platforms available in Nigeria offers realtime price chart. Maintain your account with Chaka, or open another account with Trove and use investing.com for realtime price movement.

I want to really learn on this thread.

I need some clarifications: I hear stocks moving 70%+ daily. Is there a limit to the daily movement of stocks here? If not, so if I buy a stock now and drops 100% in a day what happens?

Can a stock share price drop to Zero? If yes, what happens to my invested fund?

He he, you got them at the bottom. Great job at the timing.

Whoever has funds to invest long term should jump in without hesitation. The Remdesivir news is a game-changer. The news of the vaccine that was used to test 5 monkeys at Oxford is another huge news. So, Remdesivir would be available almost immediately while the vaccine would be ready around September.

Go to sectors that are beaten down like airline or cruise companies and shoot.

UPDATE: My CCL has now delivered more than 100% capital appreciation at the close of the market yesterday. And it has moved up by another 7% after hours. I'm still in because it seems the party just started! cool

See my post before yours. The 52 weeks high is 56.04, I wouldn't sell no matter what because those companies will not go under. Most of them have suspended operations till the end of June so that zero revenue expectation drove it to the bottom where you entered.

Most sectors have recovered more than 70% of their losses from the highs of 02/19 while the cruise companies are lagging far behind. The Russell 3000 is down about 15% from its high while in that sector, a more stable RCL is down 65%, CCl down 70%, and NCLH down 73% from their 52 wks highs.

The only problem that stands in the way before normalcy returns is the bad q2 results that will hit the market. If we make good progress on vaccines and cure before then, then the impact would not be severe.

Lol maybe everyone should also post when they initiate a trade as well. I might want to buy in as well. But I get it, there's less pressure to be right when we buy in private. I don't care to be right all the time, but if my trade gives a different perspective that will benefit someone else, I couldn't be happier. Always do your DD though.

Stocks Gains Stall Amid Earnings, Data; Oil Jumps: Markets Wrap - Bloomberg News

• Nasdaq futures edge up after solid results from tech names
• ECB decision, latest U.S. unemployment figures are due today

Futures for the S&P 500 turned lower on Thursday and European shares stalled after a three-day surge as investors weighed corporate results, more dismal data and the latest virus news. Oil continued to rebound after an early-week tumble.
Contracts on the S&P 500 swung from gains to losses, with the underlying index on track for its best month in almost 50 years. Nasdaq 100 futures clung to an advance following strong results from Microsoft Corp., Facebook Inc. and Tesla Inc. after the Wednesday close. Crude futures jumped for a second day on signsfuel consumption is starting to recover in the world’s biggest economies.
The Stoxx Europe 600 Index also gave up an early gain to trade lower after Societe Generale SA posted a surprise first-quarter loss and Royal Dutch Shell cut its dividend for the first time since World War II. Most bonds in the region climbed ahead of a European Central Bank rate decision later; Bloomberg Economics expects the bank to increase its pandemic bond-buying program in the wake of data showing the French and Spanish economies plunging into record contractions and German unemployment surging.
Investors continue to weigh a brutal economic picture against hopes for a coronavirus treatment and an eventual end to lockdown measures across the world. The U.S. government’s top infectious-disease expert, Anthony Fauci, said early results from the Gilead drug trial offered “quite good news,” while results from tech giants show some parts of the economy have remained resilient. That’s even as many firms slash dividends and data shows Europe slumped into a recession last quarter alongside America.
There’s still plenty to chew over today, with the last U.S. unemployment figures and more corporate earnings due.
David Kelly, chief global strategist at JPMorgan Asset Management, discusses the rebound in Asian markets.
Elsewhere, Japanese and Chinese equities rose over 1% as their Australian peers jumped more than 2%. Hong Kong and South Korea were shut for a holiday. Emerging-market stocks jumped.
These are the main moves in markets:
Stocks
• Futures on the S&P 500 Index fell 0.3% as of 7:07 a.m. New York time.
• The Stoxx Europe 600 Index dipped 0.4%.
• The MSCI Asia Pacific Index rose 1.3%.
• The MSCI Emerging Market Index gained 1.3%.
Currencies
• The Bloomberg Dollar Spot Index fell 0.1%.
• The euro was unchanged at $1.0873.
• The British pound rose 0.2% to $1.25.
• The onshore yuan strengthened 0.4% to 7.05 per dollar.
• The Japanese yen strengthened 0.1% to 106.59 per dollar.
Bonds
• The yield on 10-year Treasuries declined two basis points to 0.61%.
• The yield on two-year Treasuries sank two basis points to 0.19%.
• Germany’s 10-year yield sank four basis points to -0.53%.
• Britain’s 10-year yield declined three basis points to 0.253%.
• Japan’s 10-year yield climbed one basis point to -0.03%.
Commodities
• West Texas Intermediate crude gained 16.3% to $17.52 a barrel.
• Brent crude surged 11.4% to $25.11 a barrel.
• Gold strengthened 0.1% to $1,714.46 an ounce.

I'm a dynamic investor, so even when I buy for short term purpose, I only buy stocks that I'm ready to hold long term in case things don't work out as planned.

My reason for buying JetBlue is because it's a low-cost airline that majorly serves inter-state travellers in the US and some other parts of the Americas. Hence, with the gradual reopening of parts of the Americas, the airline might increase flights within the region this summer. Generally, Delta airline is described as ''too big to fail'' in this sector because of its valuation and projected profitability. Still, I bought American airline instead due to its current price with respect to its valuation. Also note that the US government has launched comprehensive bailout plans for these airlines and the major beneficiaries are Delta, American Airlines, United and Southwest. JetBlue will also get $936 million, which is not bad for a domestic carrier.

Regarding Carnival Cruise Line, some cruise lines are on the verge of bankruptcy but I believe the entire industry can't be whipped out as a result of COVID-19. Also, whatever Saudi Arabia saw in CCL that made them buy a whooping 8% stake in the company earlier this month is a good indicator that the cruise ship giant might be around for years to come. Worst-case scenario, they go by Trump's advice and register as a US company to benefit from the bailout deal.

Finally, high risk equals high reward. Please do your due diligence because US stocks, particularly in the transportation sector, are highly volatile at the moment.

Great! Thanks a million for this.

Stocks slide as coronavirus job losses top 30M - Companies from McDonald's to American Airlines have been hurt by the COVID-19 pandemic

https://www.foxbusiness.com/markets/us-stocks-april-30-2020

U.S. equity markets slid Thursday as total job losses related to the coronavirus shutdown topped 30 million, despite climbing more slowly in the past week.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 275 points, or 1.12 percent, in the opening minutes of trading while the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq Composite dropped 0.71 percent and 0.08 percent, respectively.
First-time unemployment filings totaled 3.84 million in the week ended April 25, adding to the previous total of more than 26 million in the six weeks since states adopted “stay-at-home” orders.
At least nine U.S. states have partially reopened and many more are making plans to lift at least some restrictions soon.
Looking at stocks, Dow components Dow Inc., McDonald’s and Microsoft all reported their quarterly results.

McDonald’s global same-store sales sank 3.4 percent during the first three months of the year as a 22 percent drop in March more than offset a 7.2 percent advance in January and February. The fast-food giant’s quarterly profit fell 16 percent to $1.1 billion.

So sad that millions of people are now on dole, hopefully a miracle can turn this around within the next 6 months before the November elections

Sold INO $13/$ for $390 profit. I was up as much as $2000 yesterday but the stock gapped down before I could sell.

I bought shares of Nordic American Tankers (NAT) yesterday. With the historic decline in the price of oil, there's just so much oil and little demand. This oil tanker stock is doing very well this period because they hep store the excess oil and they charge a premium. I'm up 18%, I might add more or look towards other tanker stocks like (FRO) and (STNG).

Great win bro.
Kudos!

I managed to find this ETF that tracks Nigerian equities - NGE. https://www.globalxetfs.com/funds/nge/

The Global X MSCI Nigeria ETF (NGE) invests in among the largest and most liquid companies in Nigeria.

It seemed like one of the "easier" shorts one can find and I wondered why I hadn't been short this much earlier. The one problem with it is that the spreads can be ridiculous so opening and closing positions can be quite tricky.

With naira depreciation and oil prices crashing, I see this as a good short even though it's already dropped 82% since the ETF's inception.

I went long Southwest Airlines (LUV) at $31.35 yesterday - short-term trade as I expect it to pop higher in coming days. Stop loss is at $27. I think LUV isn't volatile
as it's well managed and you will get more excitement going long other airlines but the less volatility appeals to me. This is for my "gambling" trading account.

Another position I am looking at is buying a gold mining stock. I have Kirkland (KL) in mind as it's again well managed. Waiting for it to pull back below $40 before going long with $50 in mind. This is supposed to be my long-term investment trading account but I am obviously deceiving myself if I am looking for only a 25% upside before closing the position!

PS: Been short NGE ETF since $9.60 and looking for a low $8 exit, spread permitting.
