I heard one has to cut the hair and start again when it is time to loosen the locks. How true is this?

Also for how long do you carry the locks?

You don't know how to manage your hair yet, my hair is coarse as well. And I don't even use comb at all

U only cut if u lock with pin. I don't use pin so I can unlock if I wish. I think there is a cream for unlocking. I have never bothered to check.
The best way is allow your hair to grow for some months without locking. Trim of the locks and there u go

Depending on the loc method and how long you've had the locs, it may be hard to loosen them without cutting them off. People usually cut them off because loosening locs can be very time-consuming.

You can wear locs for as long as you want. I plan to loc my hair later this year and will be keeping them for a very long time.
