I Am Not Coaching Nigeria For Money – Rohr
Coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria Gernot Rohr says he is not bothered by the terms of his new contract which stipulate that he must take a pay cut if he want to continue in his role.
“I never talk about my contract in public, as you know,” Rohr told ESPN.
“But I heard like everybody what was said by President [Amaju] Pinnick, that I have to accept to be paid in naira, and I have to be resident in Nigeria. I agree to these two things, and even I agree to have a lower salary.
“I am not doing my job for money. I am doing my job because I like it. Because we have built a team like you know, and money is not the most important. But I also have to look after my assistants.
“I accept because I think that my mission in Nigeria is not finished yet, and I know very well my players. I know very well the officials. We are now just like a family, and I think it is good to continue especially in this period now where it is difficult to change, to travel, to see new people.”
The present deal of the coach will expire in June and talks over a new contract has been on for a while but according to Rohr that is a thing of the past although he has amended some part of the deal and sent it back to the NFF.
“I want to work free in all my responsibilities,” he told ESPN.
“Independence as coach who is responsible for results. It is always good to be sure you can do a work with confidence and be free in the choice of good players.
“We have a good relationship with Pinnick, with [ NFF vice-president] Seyi [Akinwunmi] and with [League Management Company chairman] Shehu [Dikko] so I think we can find an agreement. There is no big problem to change.
“All I can say is that we are discussing in a good spirit with NFF. They sent me the proposal, I sent my answer. There are some little things to discuss about, and then we will see. Everything can be discussed. They have my answer and now I will wait for the proposal coming back.”

Joseph Yobo has been called out over his clear verbatim words at Alex Iwobi. He denied downplaying Iwobi, but there is no how that can be derived from his statement. Baba still dey Pundit mode. He shouldn't start on this note o.

I do not know the answer but I have a question.

Can the Super Eagles ever play in such a brave fashion as in the clip below?

I am always in awe watching this clip and seeing the technical and tactical class of the team. I feel we can if we work towards having an offensive/possessive identity in our play.

It is okay you stay but Mbok, set up the team in a braver fashion. The potential is there but I feel fear is holding Rohr back.

There's a chance that the pandemic may last till the end of the year...will Cameroon or Nigeria or any African country be financially stable enough to host the tournament? I don't think so.. a lot of funds are being channelled toward fighting the pandemic...I don't think Cameroon have even finished building the stadiums they intend to use for the tournament..

Again, the European football season will be in full swing cus there won't be much break like before since the leagues will want to finish before June next year...

Moving the tournament to June itself won't make sense given the weather factor and the fact that the Olympics, euro and Copa America and going to take place around that time too..

It may just be better for everybody if the tournament is scrapped and we move to 2023...

Why can't we have AFCON concurrently with COPA or EUROS?

are we sharing referees?
are we sharing players?
are we sharing pitches?
are we sharing rights?

Why do we have to shift our tourney because Europe are having theirs at that time?

Which kind thinking be that sef? undecided

Easy bruh.......

I'm pretty sure he didn't accept the deal NFF gave him.

It's a negotiation. NFF presented their deal, he ought to present his own and they'd find a middle ground. If they can't, then they path ways.

Rohr has agreed to a deal means that they found a middle ground between what he wants and what NFF can give.

It doesn't mean that he accepted what NFF gave him

I tell you. The ease at which they moved the ball fluidly and also had fluid movements. The full backs attacked with pace and intensity.

Such a well coached team.

I think many will be satisfied with an AFCON title and a second round finish at the WC. Their goal is just to see us win another African title.
But I think we are capable of doing better if we get the right hands to assist Rohr.
