Sacked Pregnant Access Bank Cashier Collapses In Lagos After Receiving Letter by Neictraema(f): 3:52am On May 03, 2020
A pregnant cashier at the Ketu/Ikorodu branch of Access Bank affected by the bank’s mass retrenchment of staff, collapsed on Saturday after hearing of her dismissal, SaharaReporters has gathered.

The cashier simply identified as Taiwo, is about three months pregnant.

The bank had announced plans to sack its workers as a result of the negative impact of the Coronavirus outbreak. SaharaReporters gathered that many of the bank’s staff received their sack letters via email over the weekend with shock and grief.

A colleague of the lady, who collapsed, spoke with SaharaReporters on the phone.

He said, “Her name is Taiwo. When she got the news today, she collapsed. There were two of them affected by the mass retrenchment from Ketu/Ikorodu Road branch, as of now. We will get to know more on Monday about others who were affected. The Taiwo lady is about two or three months pregnant.

“When she heard the news, she collapsed. It was friends and family around her that rushed her to the hospital.”

What were you all expecting to be the outcome of a total economy lock-down without proper planning undecided

I know it must be a Yoruba woman or married to a Yoruba man. No Igbo man will allow his pregnant wife to work.

This is the dumbest statement i have heard in a long time. Your obsession and hatred for Yorubas is what is affecting your mental state. Everything that u see you must relate it to Yoruba

And she's one of many more to come. Sad but true reality.

Nigeria is not a country you rely on a job that is not your own. They will lift you high today and dash you to the ground tomorrow.

I've always been a campaigner for entrepreneurship, even though it takes smartness and agility to survive in that terrain, no one can bully you or use you like a mop.

That "thing" may not Igbo

Some stupid Nairalanders enjoy it when Igbos and Yorubas get into e-fight

You shouldn't be replying to some senseless comments here

To the news, the bank says that it is temporary

Hopefully, those who couldn't get a job after December will be reinstated

If we all have the mindsets of establishing our own businesses, employers will be begging us to work as it happens in the US agribusiness today

I remember we were constantly reminded in school to graduate with a second-class upper division so as to get a good job. Lecturers rarely talked about being self-employed.

I hope things have changed now though

I believed the bank is offloading the staffs of former Diamond bank. The real access bank staffs are safe.

believe sahara at your peril. Sacked on Saturday. Naso. Sackis normal and expected in banking. While at it one should be saving and looking for escape routes. But many become comfortable

That's why I hate private jobs especially bank jobs. If you are working in private firms, it's high time you made enough savings because any day, you might be relieved of your job. But those who saved their money may be able to make good investment and may not really feel the pain of the sack.
My sympathy goes to those may be affected in one way or the other as a result of this.
