Project Details
Ground FLOOR Features
some section of the ground floor are existing already but we will be modifying some sections and we will be adding an extension to accommodate an office
1 Main Sitting Room (existing)
1 Dining room void at the top with staircase
1 Bedroom Ensuite (existing)
1 KItchen with a store
1 office with conveniences
1 conference room

First Floor Features
3 bedroom ensuite
1 living room with balcony
1 Gym
1 laundry room
1 central Lobby

The task at hand is to incorporate the proposed extension and bring it up to the same level as the existing building on site

According to the drawings, a new extension to be joined to the existing structure on site of the proposed duplex and we need to add columns to two different location within the the existing building for the sake of structural stability.

Setting out and excavation of the proposed extension part of the building started already

We poured the foundation blinding and casted the column footings(1200 X 1200)

I had to be so firm about the depth of my foundation and columns with the labourers, these are areas where they usually do what is most comfortable to them..

We have started raising the Foundation blocks to DPC level already and hopefully by Monday 9/3/2020, we will start backfilling...

We got two 4000litres of Storex tank @70,000 each for this Project and we are planning to drill a borehole next week

We backfilled the foundation of the extension yesterday and we casted the DPC today

Laying of DPM

And so we casted the DPC today , even though the mixing machine we used broke down at some point, but it came back to life

We are using hand moulded Blocks for this project, You can see my guys handling that for me

The Black Nylon is a Polythene that serve as our DPM (damp-proof membrane) and it is a membrane material applied to prevent moisture transmission. We laid it before casting our concrete slab.

The Location is confidential but the Proposed Budget at the time of inception of this project is 18.5million

Present stage of work on site, we have successfully raised the extension to Lintel level

Casting of a drainage Wall in front of the house

We are done with the Ground Floor and all Structural elements are well placed to receive the First Floor..

I estimated the cost of buying woods I needed to cast the formwork for the First floor slab + workmanship to be around 750k..

And to rent the same wood + workmanship is around 320k..

.So I eventually opt for wood rentage to save cost...

Cost of Decking Formwork + Workmanship.. 320,000naira

My Team was able to finish the Construction of Formwork in Four days

During the construction of Formwork, we were able to drill and install a Borehole system on the property for easy access to Water. I need more than enough water to cast the First Floor Slab

With the guide of a detailed Structural Drawing, we started Reinforcement arrangement... I gave my Iron Bending team 3days to conclude reinforcement arrangement and my plumbing and electrical team two days and they were able to deliver.

My aim was to cast the First-floor slab before the Lockdown begins on Saturday, April 4 in Abeokuta, and we were able to finish all Formwork, Reinforcement, Plumbing and Electrical work on Thurs, April 2, 2020

Friday April 3, 2020

We cast the First Floor Slab without any issue, we started the casting around 9 am and we finished around 6 pm in the evening

45 tons of 3/4 Granite
5 trailer buckets of Sharp Sand
180 bags of cement
2tons of 16mm reinforcement
4tons of 12mm reinforcement
60 nos of 10mm reinforcement
2 bundles of Binding Wire
About 9000litres of water
Planks and Bamboo for Formwork

Equipment Used
2 mixing Machine @ 15K per day
40 nos of Labour
6 Masons
Concrete Vibrator

Happy Corona Lockdown everyone.

I leveraged on the Corona Lockdown to start moulding the Blocks I will need to raise the first Floor.

Now we have about 4200 blocks ready for use.

All things be in equal We will start raising the first floor walls on Monday..

For the 4200 blocks, I used about 140bag of cement to mould it

They will also manage it for a Year, I have been working with them for a while now and they are very good in what they do.
