jeffizy: Insecure? Far from it. Personally, I operate something of my own. But it's no excuse to say that those that lost or will lose their jobs should have been entrepreneurs. What you don't understand is that these 'jobs' retrenching their staff are also 'businesses' that are on the brink of failure or bankruptcy. So your whole argument is flawed anyway. Unless you expect everybody to own a kiosk and shop of their own in the name of entrepreneurship. Stop peddling the dream that ones you become an entrepreneur, life becomes rosy and you start seeing more money than a cashier. There are pros and cons to everything. 9 Likes |

spinna: Fugarlion You are a disgrace to the entire people of Igbo land. How many women of Igbo extraction do you know, that are working in the banking sector, doing well and in high positions? Your low mentality is not helping the Igbo nation. |

PigTormentor: most of those people did not become unavailable permanently. it was only temporary due to the shutdown. jobs like in aviation industry, manufacturing, transportation and all that will return once everything is over. also know that most of those workers in the US are being furloughed not sacked. I know you think US is your useless Nigeria. 1 Like |

When we were shouting close tfhe border, close the border because we donot have the capacity to lockdown, this is part of the result. They were apt to copy economies that were prosperous and robust before covid (BC). Where are the 'we are ready' gang today. Everything is in tatters. We have lost the economy and relaxed the so called lockdown with cases escalation thereby losing the pandemic battle as well. We have gained absolutely NOTHING. Just as I thought will happen a couple of months ago. All due to wishy-washy leadership. What will it have cost us then to closed our international borders to human traffic at the end of January, send all our soldiers to man them amd kept our economy going. Perhaps Access Bank will have toiled to find a reason to downsize rather than capitulate so easily to the forces of capitalism. Remember this was the poverty capital of all humanity BC. |

Lostz: See how shallow you are calling Nigeria "useless". may be you are useless but I know many Nigerians that are NOT. Laid off and furlough doesn't mean that you will be rehired. Some are just using the word furlough because they took Federal money through the CARES program which states that they cannot fire their employees or else they will not qualify for the loans and other freebies. I have worked for at least 5 top fortune 500 US companies and I know how they think and operate. Yes, they will love to hire back these people just like Access would too if business is booming but it will not "automatically" go back to booming as soon as you naively stated. Even the most optimistic economist knows it will take time to get back to where we used to be. Are people going to be going to restaurants like they used to, are they going to be flying like they used to, are they going to feel comfortable going on vacations like they used to knowing they could get laid off anytime, are they going to be buying cars and electronic like they used to ? HELL NO. The airlines will have to reduce their flight schedule which in turn will reduce the demand for staff, planes, food vendors, cleaning vendors and the list goes on and on. Pls go to business school or at least learn some basic economics reality before posting trash. 4 Likes |
