I've seen some ignorant threads and post about landlocked issues in Nigeria and it's a Shame many nigerians don't know the meaning of landlocked.

Yorubas.ijaws.iskhkeri.akwa cross(ibibio, etc) are the only Ethnic groups with access to sea.

Rivers, bayelsa, Delta, ondo,Lagos, ogun, akwa ibom and cross river state are the only state with directaccess with to sea

Oya you can now go and drink the water or sit at the centre of the sea since you have direct access to the sea.

You are the educated illiterate here. THE FACT THAT A COUNTRY IS LANDLOCKED DOES NOT MEAN IT HAS NO ACCESS TO THE SEA.
Being landlocked means you have no territorial borders with the ocean, a landlocked country can still access the sea and use inland waterways to full potential.

The hausa- fulani and other northern tribes would have access to sea in the event of separation as River Niger would be dredged and designated as international water. We're currently do not have sea access only because of the existence of Nigeria. If Nigeria dissolves, everything would change. TAKE NOTE!!!!

the northern part of nigeria benue for example can have access to sea through river benue but they are considered landlocked.

Landlocked means you don't have a direct access to sea without going through unfamiliar territory

Yes I know we are considered landlocked, but it doesn't mean we can't have access to the sea. You have to understand access to sea and landlocked are different things. Most Nigerians think they are the same.

you are right I'm from Edo state and we are considered landlock but we still have access to sea.

If there's a time we are to be separated, we can't use the sea without agreement from yorubas/itsekeri people

personally I think if u have access to small Rivers or stream, I see u as landlocked region.
Go to nembe or Brass in Bayelsa or the back of Abonnema or Bonny in Rivers State and u will know that some Rivers are just a pothole with water. Try reach nembe and Brass, not just the sea, the wave is terrifying, only ships can cruise those seas

Ijaw, some of their lands doesn't have bridges cos it could cost a massive futune to build one, so they use big boats but I don't ever near those places, last time I went to one of their towns to collect samples for my project, I thought school of shark could come and just attack us, there is no end to the sea

leave him, he doesn't know what a sea is, maybe he is surrounded by massive lakes and streams, I doubt he has seen a big river even, River Niger is something u could consider a big River though, something very close to a small sea.

Guess their response Biafra will need to worship Yoruba or Niger Delta in order to have access to the sea or else, they will all die of hunger!! Jokers grin

The same tactics they have been using to discourage Igbos from trying to secede from Nigeria since the end of civil war in 1970 that is not working, why not change tactics

They tried by dividing Eastern region and caving out so called Niger Delta states out of Eastern regional communities like Bendel, Obiokpor, Elele, Ohaji, etc, etc in their effort to undermine Igbos and cut their power and then named the carved regions of Eastern Nigeria Southsouth, is there any geometric point called Southsouth anywhere on earth if not in Nigeria as designed by Hausa-Fulani + Yoruba controlled Federal government of Nigeria

Even after they did that, they further awarded crude oil communities in Igbo land to their neighboring states just to undermine Igbo states economically in their national revenue sharing nonsense, and they intentionally abandoned crude oil wells and sites solely in heart of Igbo communities like Nekede, Ihiagwa, Ohaji, Mbaise, Abia communities, etc.

Yet all these haven't stopped the Igbos from shinning and becoming the richest tribe with the highest number of rich people according to Forbes Magazine, while an Igbo community after years of political marginalization emerged and remained the richest community with the highest number of millionaires and billionaires in Naira, which is Nnewi town.

So let them continue with their landlock mantra until Nigeria divides then we will know who is who cool

What sort of education did you have? or is the dumbness genetic?
Did ever say we would artificially convert a river to a sea? Must all transportation be on seas, do you know there are barges of over 300ft that can carry up to 8000 tons of containers and goods on a trip.
Everytime you southerners accuse us of literacy, but nairaland have shown me your education is just mediocre at best. Honestly you guys are disturbed.

well there is a saying that the hen that lays the Golden Egg bla bla bla.
I think if u are the governor and u see the sea, u will be discouraged to build a bridge cos it's gonna be expensive erecting one on such sea, and they have like 6communities that need such a bridge, the FG were supposed to take up such program and build for them. But still, how many will u build, they have up to five or seven communities that need such bridge, it's better to neglect them than to build 4bridges almost on par with second Niger bridge, money for such a project no deh for the country. If Nigeria develop, maybe reach one kind level, maybe the government will consider them, probably 50-70years from now, lol

In advent of such breakup any country with access to an inland waterway will have access to the sea. No matter how far North they're situated. The transit States can't do much about it. I had to crosscheck this again few minutes ago.

Article125
Right of access to and from the sea and freedom of transit
1. Land-locked States shall have the right of access to and from the sea for the purpose of exercising the rights provided for in this Convention including those relating to the freedom of the high seas and the common heritage of mankind. To this end, land-locked States shall enjoy freedom of transit through the territory of transit States by all means of transport.
2. The terms and modalities for exercising freedom of transit shall be agreed between the land-locked States and transit States concerned through bilateral, subregional or regional agreements.
3. Transit States, in the exercise of their full sovereignty over their territory, shall have the right to take all measures necessary to ensure that the rights and facilities provided for in this Part for land-locked States shall in no way infringe their legitimate interests.

Article127
Customs duties, taxes and other charges
1. Traffic in transit shall not be subject to any customs duties, taxes or other charges except charges levied for specific services rendered in connection with such traffic.
2. Means of transport in transit and other facilities provided for and used by land-locked States shall not be subject to taxes or charges higher than those levied for the use of means of transport of the transit State

Read through those 2 charters and understand there's nothing much any transit state(s) can do. The Charters essentially say "You don't own the water".

The potential and money bayelsa state have is hugged sadly the leaders are looters and brainless, trust me any governor could have done that project if they were serious about it but they prefer to loot and transfer the money to their banks abroad.

They could have even come together to push a motion of the federal government, but they prefer to discuss the next looting scheme

these are nonsense and any country can Disobey.

Don't use see how china are locking up Muslims and trying to annex different regions even with United Nations warning??

Do you see how Russia are going about bombing and trying to take over territories even when United Nations warn against it??

USA have been bombing and looting countries oil since years ago.

I can go on and on but the point is, if a country choose not to respect that law, they won't respect it.

A landlocked country is at the mercy of the host, Lesotho now is even consider a province of south Africa because they are landlocked and most of their people are in South Africa.

Those successful European landlocked countries you see have histories of hiding looted money and have different agreements with countries with sea.

while that is the case, we practice a centralized system of govt, it's like been a slave in ur own land and u have to give the govt almost everything ur region produces and at the end of the month, they give u peanut as allocation, ND gets nothing from one Nigeria and we have been crying since time immemorial because the people are neglected, the state government can't build those bridges and still function very well.
This is one of the reason I despise the Ipob agenda because when the govt favoured them, they didn't shout SS/SE should break off from Nigeria and we are the ones crying, but now that they are been marginalized, they now see us as brothers and now know that we were suffering, what kind of brother remembers u wen things are bad for him?
