At least my school contributed something to the fight against covid-19, what have other schools done than create hand sanitizers and more over what have you urself done. Don't come and abuse peoples effort here, some people be saying we should find a cure when Nations with better equipments, qualified persons and environments have not provided anything

We should stick to our place and do the little we can to help the nation.

God help Nigeria

Enough of this clownery , respirators offer little or no help to COVID patients but rather kill them , we should be developing organic cures that have Quinine and Artemisinin in them at this point to chase this Dr Fauci conspiracy virus out of Africa
I've never figured out why Nigerians are obsessed with ventilators. I guess when we hear anything on CNN - like "lockdown" - we run with it. Do we even know it requires 24-hour electricity?

Obviously you're quite ignorant of what a ventilator does. You seriously need to be educated on this. A patient with underlying ailments such as asthma and other respiratory issues would need a ventilator to survive. If you like, give the best medication to such a patient, recovery would be nearly impossible without a ventilator in a critical condition. Is it not the patient who can breathe that would respond to treatment? What do you do if the patient cant breathe spontaneously? With a ventilator, a 100% O2 could be given under a BIPAP or IPPV or Oscilation mode, depending on how critical the condition is. A nasal cannula could so be applied with tbe help of a ventilator in a recovery stage. How do you know if the patient is responding to treatment without measuring the CO2 via Capnography? How do you apply a medication to such a patient who is even unconscious? With a ventilator, lots of patients have survived. With the aid of nebulizer, which is one of the key functions of a ventilator, a patient with respiratory issues stands a brighter chance of recovery

Please stop all the ignorance. There are learned people here.

You are the small brained ignorant one here , I know what a respirator does and my comment was in regards to the COVID pandemic as respirators have not made any real difference as 9 out of 10 Covid patients intubated never made it out alive , we are in the middle of a crisis ,is this the time every half baked university lecturer should start releasing on failed contraption or the other and labelling it a respirator , do you know how much time it takes a respirator to go from prototyping to mass production? Are you the one going to fund a factory for him to mass produce that nonsense I see there ? Respirators are not what we need now , what we need are home grown therapies that can act as prophylaxy to the virus or at best disenable the virus ... I am a realist and I don't waste time in needless sensations , even world class respirators are not making a difference in the fight against COVID if it's not saving 9 out of them and the ones saved are left with permanent respirator tract impairment.. You went to school but you don't know how to apply your education to bring out results Mr

Nigerian stvpidity keeps arriving at new levels each day.

How is unveiling ventilators Nigeria's stupidity?

It's a global thing and in as much as there's no "generally acceptable" vaccine and medications yet, we have to continue using ventilators.

That said, most of your posts have been piped down to always castigating Nigeria and I'm pretty sure you're not a perfectionist. Else, you'd have learned how to react properly to matters regarding your country. Don't be an enemy of the state.

Yeah. I read a peer review study that if you get to the stage where you need ventillator, then there's an 80% chance you don't make it. Something about it damaging your heart and brain in teh process (can't really remember) Most of these idiots are just going off waht America is doing, and how New York was complaning about ventilator, even when they have loads, so they think Ventilator is a miracle machine. I've not even heard anything about Europe talking about ventilators.

Ahhh!!!! You get energy oo. Do you think they will understand what you just explained here on Nairaland? A bunch of jack of all trades that think medicine is among the random topics anyone can read and process for better understanding without proper guidance?

It's obvious you are a clinician and same things you clearly elucidated above went through my head as I perused with laughter over several rather ignorant comments about ventillator, cure and vaccine.

Pls quit trying to make them understand cos you would rather get more frustrated. Unfortunately, Medicine and science ain't just ordinary.

Not entirely the case but 80% of users of this ventilators in the US are above 70 years and a lot have underlying health challenges especially ones relating respiratory illnesses. In the city where I reside; we had one 45yrs and 55 yrs that died of the disease. Nigeria have young population and virtually all, hopefully will survive. You can see the rate of mortality among Nigerians elderly people. The rest of almost 200 deaths are btw 70 and 103yrs. Note that senior nursing and care homes are majorly hit than other sectors. Now the virus is spreading in some prison facilities. To say that ventilators are nothing for covid patients is to exaggerate ignorance to its limit. I strongly want to note here that Africans do have greater Recovery period unlike people the temperate region. Finally, few Nigerians would need ventilators compare to the westerners.

People needing ventilators are already 70% gone..... Only thing that can give them a little chance of survival at that particular state are ventilators...

Ventilators are different from oxygen.
A patient needing ventilator is already at the point of total respiratory failure.... Respirator pipes will be pushed into their lungs to help them breathe....At this point, the person Don enter coma.

Lockdown means nothing without testing, isolating and treating infected ones.
