This is why I will never buy one again.

Bought one neat looking naija used Corrolla for 500k. Had to sell off after 3 weeks for 300k, thats after dashing over 150k to mechanics and rewires.(The idiots were annoyed that I sold it grin They turned me to customer)

You liberated yourself by selling it off. Thank goodness you didn't listen to your mechanic.

The car isn't strong and doesn't have a strong balance when on high speed

Bought a Hummer H2 Jeep because of the hype, big, luxurious and V8 engine, thought the world of it and was convinced it is the best thing after ewa agoyin. Lo and behold, it is the slowest car I have ever driven, very big that I can maneuver through some space and don't let me get started with parking space that one nah wahala grin

I abandoned it in my garage and bought a Bentley continental flying Spur V12 GT from the money I made doing a nasty job. White on cream, voice assistance, driving sensor assist, 21inch chrome wheels, custom built finger ID door unlock. Ignition keycard. The summary of the story is that the Bentley is to heavy and not very smooth in driving, the understeer at high speed is violation of the right of a driver, customization is zero as it comes with special suspension parts.
Both vehicles are in my garage in Need4speedMW grin gathering dust

Uh...Sir...

What version of nfsmw do you play? Mime doesn't have hummer and Bentley oo.. grin

You suffered because you were looking for a neat car not a well serviced car.

Yeah. its true. The vehicles chassis was neat and clean but it overheated every 30 minutes of use and gulping down fuel mercilessly. We spent N3500 on fuel to and fro from Ota to Abeokuta. It was crazy.

Mine was used Kia Shuma that I bought immediately I graduated that year. I changed its engine when the old one got bad. Worst mistake! It Stopped me along Aba-PH road around 9pm, the day I was to drive it home from Alaoji in Aba where I bought the engine. Parked it somewhere and went home via public trans. The new engine was hell. All these Alaoji boys sef.

That’s why I earlier said I have a phobia for engine overhaul or rebuild.

You can never tell what will happen next and engine seller and Mecho have collected money already.

You will know, if you know how to spot or listen to tell tale signs.

A properly washed engine is a sign of hidden defects.

A missing AC low pressure port cap indicates a possible frequent AC repair or gas refill.

Car manufacturers don't run bare wires, seeing wires uncovered and free tells you the kind of Electrician who worked on the car.

New paint tells you something, the seller is trying to increase the value of the car or is hiding something. You need to find it and decide if you can tolerate it or not.

Just yesterday, i saw a car on Jiji and got seriously interested. The pictures were great but no side, engine and trunk. So i called and asked for it. When I got the engine pic, I asked if AC is working and was told it needs small work (i assumed worst, it needs big work). I only noticed a missing port cap.

One wheel cover was missing and the side picture was not as clear as the front and rear. The only reason for a bad picture is that there is something to hide. I only asked if it was painted and he said yes.

I didn't need to ask anymore cause I already lost interest in the car after 2 questions and 2 more pictures.

The pictures on Jiji highlighted the good sides of the car but left the bad.

Basically, one will be looking for red flags in answers to questions and physical signs of previous work.

Excellently well said my brother. Only that sometimes we get carried away by how clean the car looks.

It’s always better to even have an independent well experienced person look at it too.

You know those ones can have serious internal damage too.

The only major difference is that people kinda pay more attention to details like checking the VIN and all.

When naija man went to spend millions, he automatically becomes wiser than King Solomon.

Salvage cars are not bad... They are only accident cars written off by insurances companies over there... They are cheaper to fix or rebuild in naija

But most salvage titles have major underlying ailments and sicknesses even after repairs.

Salvage title in auction mean the car can be salvage and legally l allowed back on the road. I bought 3 salvage car last year...

One just needed a bumper and fender plus body paint respray

The second just needed door replacement and airbag crash sensor replacement for driver side.

The 3rd was panel beater work for a dent on the roof, fender and water pump replacement

The ones you mentioned all had somewhat minor issues. I’ve seen some really messed up salvage titles and then dealers here kinda resurrect these cars and sell as clean titles.

Best is to do a VIN before buying any toks car.

Dunno why tho.
True talk. It's either the mechanics have lost the skills or the parts available are wack. Overhaul an engine and it will only last few months.
Its better to buy tokumbo.

Bought an EOD then from a bloody Indian, he said its only problem was the engine, to summarize the issues, I bought engine, gearbox and still plenty other issues ,I later found out it was a floody. I sold it off to someone the buyer still owes me 300k after almost 10 years!!!

Flooded cars are the worst nightmare anyone can have.

From electrical issues to undercarriage rust problems.

Just forget the 300k bro.

The buyer “no get shishi” to give u oo.
