Sold a perfectly good 97 Toyota Carina E with fantastic engine for a Naija used BMW325i. Nothing I didn't change in the car. Suspension, battery, tyres, sensors, even bought half engine .. the car was totally useless.. sold it off for crap.
As If I never learn lesson.. fast forward.. sold my Toyota Camry 09 I bought toks and bought Naija used Acura MDX 05.
Plethora of issues.. suspension issues, engine issues.. car drank fuel like a fish. So tired of the car .. barely 7 months after ownership.. I want to get rid of it..
Gosh.
sorry bro. These Nigerian used cars you bought, who helped you buy them? Did a mechanic go along? Competent one o

The first one. I admit. I went alone. The mechanic was forming busy so I went ahead to check the car out . Tho I sensed something was off but my enthusiasm to buy and drive a BMW was too much to resist.. paid dearly for it.
The second one. The mechanic followed me o.
We checked and checked.. he assured everything was okay tho some few repairs as per Naija used car.. oh boy. This moto dey chop fuel like God knows what.. terrible gas mileage.. in the process of selling it off tho .

The secret to buying Nigeria used car is to be ready for the worst case scenario, don't trust the seller,

First make sure the car parts are not expensive like engine, transmission..

Second, price the car as though you will replace these key parts

Third, ensure the body parts and wirings are at above 80%

My experience, I bought a Nigeria used civic 07 during the lock down, seller asked for 1.25m that meet the above criteria,

First I did my research on the engine 170k, transmission 90k, suspension overhauling 60k

Body was good, no funny wiring, car needed two tyres, two headlight, perhaps some minor painting, that is all

We settle at 1m

Luckily for two year I used it I didn't have engine or tranny issue, but I was ready for them... And na mobil filling station oil i give am drink steady... Kept a liter in the boot as step up grin

One Nigerian used 1999 RAV 4 o. You know what, mechanics ran away from me even with my cash in my pocket.

In fact, chief Gazzuzz asked me to bring the car but I had already made up my mind to sell it off.

I had to rest for almost 2 years before I considered buying another car. A complete relief after I sold it off.
How

Actually, the experience made me understand how to buy car either toks or Nig used.
How please? What's your experience in buying a Nigerian used car?

Bought a Hummer H2 Jeep because of the hype, big, luxurious and V8 engine, thought the world of it and was convinced it is the best thing after ewa agoyin. Lo and behold, it is the slowest car I have ever driven, very big that I can maneuver through some space and don't let me get started with parking space that one nah wahala grin

I abandoned it in my garage and bought a Bentley continental flying Spur V12 GT from the money I made doing a nasty job. White on cream, voice assistance, driving sensor assist, 21inch chrome wheels, custom built finger ID door unlock. Ignition keycard. The summary of the story is that the Bentley is to heavy and not very smooth in driving, the understeer at high speed is violation of the right of a driver, customization is zero as it comes with special suspension parts.
Both vehicles are in my garage in Need4speedMW grin gathering dust
lol, you no well

BSI means Built-in System Interface.

It’s kind of like an ECU for all other electrical systems other than the engine, but it is connected to the engine ECU via a CANBUS interface.

It also controls everything electrical in the car, from immobiliser, to communicating with the indicator stalk unit/wiper unit, wiper speed, electric windows etc..

Once it goes bad, and you can't get a specialist to fix it, then you're in for a long ride.
Please can't this BSI be replaced?

Sure it can.

You will however need to get the right one that works perfectly with your car.

Also for the new BSI to work some remapping might be required to connect to the engine ECU.

Lol. Nigeria used car is not worth it. Its just the bad economy and dollar inflation.

My brother.

Those Two things you mentioned.
Bad Economy + Dollar inflation = 4.1M for Toyota Corolla 2004 or else buy Naija Used and finally land on this page.

I hope you understand?

I don't own a Peugeot but admire it alot, I heard it has a lot of electrical issues may be that's why Nigerians are afraid of driving it. Thanks.

Excellent question.

There are good and bad cars everywhere both tokunbo or Naija used.

The issue is the ability to identify, verify, inspect and buy the right car of your choice.

The most important things are past maintainance history, rust issues, transmission, engine condition etc

So basically you should get a specialist diagnostic person i.e a car doctor to guide before buying so you don't end up buying a lemon.

I suggest you read from Page 1

I love that, but why is it not common in the south and west? May be they have the technical know how to maintain it there.
I would love to have the Peugeot 308.
