Wawu, try this before changing anything inside your car ma.

1. Use manufacturer recommended Engine oil viscosity & weight (don't mind the jargons) at your next oil change. Your vehicle recommended engine oil is 5W-30. Ask your mech not to use a 20W-50 engine oil to service your vehicle during your next service. Although the recommended 5W-30 engine oil price would be higher than the 20W-50 he his currently using. Aunt Radu (at Second Toll Gate, Across from Eleganza) should be able to help you with the price for engine oil or asked you mech for price.

2. Observe the fuel quantity sold to you at filling station. It is a known fact that many filling station litre is not always up to a litre. So if the filling station you are using is short-changing you, find a new one that sells a litre as a litre.

3. Also is your to-fro to Marina journey with or without traffic. If you drive when road is congested with A/C on, your fuel consumption would be high.


I use 5k fuel weekly and I cover 50km (minus traffic, Me & Lagos traffic don't roll at all) daily during work-week. I waka from Mainland to Island daily (Mon - Fri). I go still get fuel to waka go church at Ikeja on sunday before buying another 5k fuel for the new week on my way back home.

Although I haven't pay close attention to fuel consumption whenever I make long waka to Sangotedo Roundabout from mainland when visiting my In-Laws, I certainly haven't used 5k fuel for to and from journey before.

My vehicle is a 1.8ltrs engine Toyota like yours, so that fuel consumption is very high.

Though my car takes 9k on full tank which is above what you spend, I still feel your car is consuming fuel because if I buy 6k in my car, I'd drive it for a week without worry. With ac on and music playing

During the 4th month, I started hearing some kinda screeching noise from the wheels, I couldn't place it..Fuel consumption was high! 6000naira fuel (full tank) would take me to marina 2x in a week and the fuel indicator is close to E already).
Well I ended up spending 25,000naira at a kazeem's place....

The noise was persistent and fuel consumption was still the same.

Met with another kazeem, he diagnosed axle as the persistent problem. Spend over 50k on that one.. I enjoyed my barbie for 1month.. Axle wahala started.

Anyways. I decided to visit another mechanic that suggested I remove the axle completely, did as he suggested..change fuel something something , brake pad and since then, all I've done to this car is to do service it... I drive my car everyday now to everywhere I go.

... I'm not sure it feels any different before and after the axle removal

I'll do matrix over and over again! but hey! I've got my eyes on rav4.

I have a problem with my 2005 Toyota Camry XLE with an automatic transmission. In the morning when the car is cold it doesn't engage 'Drive' unless I first press the pedal down and rev the engine for some minutes then it suddenly engages with a Jerk! but Reversing works fine. Also when the car has gone a long distance or been stuck in our Lagos traffic for long, While moving, with the car on 'Drive', and I am pressing on the accelerator and trying to shift over 80kmph, it feels as though the car is reverting into neutral. I say this because I can clearly hear the engine revving up, but the car is not moving any faster and the accelerometer never goes beyond 2000rpm. If I completely step off of the accelerator, and "pump" the pedal repeatedly, eventually, it will begin to accelerate again. this issue seems to happen sporadically. Climbing steep terrain has become a nightmare.

I have replaced the ATS, changed the filter underneath, changed the valve body. But the problem still persists.

Please what could be the problem? And what can be done to get a permanent solution?

yes!!! My matrix would be 2years in March! Zero worries, no troubles... other than to service this car, I haven’t been to the mechanic.

Another thing, if you feel your Matrix is still consuming too much fuel, check underneath the car and make sure your catalytic converter is intact. Also, buy fuel injector cleaner and pour it into your fuel tank. You ca get a good fuel injector cleaner from the Total filling station.
