CHAPTER THIRTY




"where have you been Udoka?" the old man asked him.


"Sir, i got a text from the company, they said my signature is needed before the goods can be pushed to the market" he replied showing the old man his phone.


"I am really grateful i have an employee like you, thank you so much for handling the company in my absence" he sneezed.



"That is not a problem sir, i only want you to get back to your feet as soon as possible so that you can come back to work" he walked towards the water dispenser and grabbed a big brown envelope he dropped there few days ago "Am all set now sir, i have told the nurses to give you your meal at the appropriate time, i will soon be back" he added going towards the door. The old man smiled at him and he left.





He waited for Udoka to leave the premises before he stepped down from his car. He wore a lab coat, surgical nose mask, his hands covered in surgical hand gloves, a stethoscope hung around his neck and a medical silver shining box held firmly in his hand. He walked to the receptionist and flashed the fake ID card at her.



"I am doctor Wills and am here to give my patient his afternoon injections" he spoke through the nose mask.


"Are you a resident doctor?" the receptionist asked.


"No, am a visiting doctor" he replied. She brought out the book and after going through it for a while, she flashed him a smile


"Is this your first time here doctor?" she asked closing the book.



"Yes, and i am assigned to one Mr Akueze" he replied turning to look around.



"Okay doctor, walk down the hallway, the sixth room after the children ward, that is his ward" she pointed the hallway out for him.



"Okay dear, thanks a lot" he winked at her walking away. He walked down the hallway, passed the general female ward, the general male ward and the registry. He counted the numbers of doors he had passed and he continued walking, he came across the cashier's office and the children ward and when he got to the sixth door, joy overwhelmed him, he turned the door knob and stepped into the room.


"i caught you old man" he scoffed walking towards the man laying on the bed his eyes scanning around for any camera in the room, he saw one at the extreme just almost beside the plasma television pasted on the wall, he gritted his teeth and opened the box he carried with him.


"Do you think it will be appropriate for me to take the injections on an empty stomach? I have not had my lunch yet" the old man muttered.



"No problem sir, it doesn't matter" he grinned tapping on the syringe meticulously. he turned around and saw that the old man already positioned himself, he almost laughed but shook his head. He plunged the syringe right into his body and emptied the content. he packed his tools and covered the box.



"It's all done sir, just rest" he said walking towards the door.


"Ezenwa" the old man called out. The intruder halted and gave the old man a side glance.


"I know you are the one, but don't worry, i guess my fate is to die by your hands and my decision still remains that, you get none of my properties when i die. i don't know how you found me but believe me when i say your end is near and even in my grave? i will still see you as the most useless son i had while on earth" the old man said relaxing himself fully on the bed.


The intruder gritted his teeth and balled his palm in a fist, his eyes burned as the tears gathered, he wiped them off and left the room, he wasn't known to be a weakling, he was a beast and beasts never cry.

CHAPTER THIRTY ONE


Melody paced the living room slowly waiting for Joel, he had told her to get ready so that he would take her to the salon where she could get her hair done. She looked at herself wondering if she was over dressed or under dressed, she wore a black thick leggings with a big red polo with "LOVE" written in capital letters in a white colour, white Puma slippers and a white small round bag hanged across her shoulders, she lifted one side of the polo and tucked it slightly in her leggings. She wasn't quick to notice Joel's mother as she walked down the stairs.



"Melody, you are all dressed, where to?" she asked resting her elbows on the sofa.


"Joel said he is taking me to the salon so that my hair can be fixed" she replied but then added almost immediately, "I didn't tell him to do it Ma, he just told me to get dressed, but i won't go if you are not okay with it" nervousness hit her.



"Oh no my dear, whatsoever or whosever my son likes,? i like too, am very okay with my son going out with you my dear" she replied with a smile.



"And you don't think i only want to eat his money?" she asked gazing at her feet.



"First of all, drop the "Ma" title and call me Mom, secondly, not all rich people have that mindset that poor people are gold diggers. If my son likes you? am fine with it but don't even try to hurt him because if you do? you wouldn't like who i will become" she glared at her.



"I won't hurt him Ma, thank you" Melody replied with a smile.


"Come, come and give me a hug" the woman opened her hands while Melody rushed into them. "Take care of my son, he is all that i have got" the woman muttered.


"I will Ma, thank you" Melody replied with a smile.


"Mom" the woman corrected.


"Okay Mom" Melody chuckled.


"Okay then, i will leave you now" the woman said disengaging from the hug walking into the kitchen.

Melody smiled and clasped her hands together as though she was praying "Thank you Lord" she said with her eyes closed.


"Did i miss anything?" Joel asked tapping her back gently. Melody opened her eyes and hugged him tight.


"Okay can you tell me what i missed?" Joel asked again carressing her back.



"I talked with Mom few minutes ago and she is in support of our relationship" she whispered to Joel.


"Oh that? i told you not to worry, My parents don't have a problem at all" Joel replied stepping back a bit to stare at her, his eyes widened and he opened his mouth drooling "damn, Bambi, you are looking beautiful" he said with admiration.


"Do you think i am over dressed?" She asked him.


"No, you are perfectly okay, damnit, just look at that ass, i feel like grabbing something" he chuckled running away.



"You feel like grabbing what?" Melody hissed, removed one of her slippers chasing him with it.


"I love you madam single bone" Joel shouted running out of the house.


"And i hate you" Melody cooed walking out of the house too.


"You know you don't mean that, princess" Joel winked at her walking towards the car.



"You wish, soldier boy" Melody scoffed.
