MuttleyLaff: Cassius Marcellus Clay was not the name of a slave master, he was an abolitionist who convinced Abraham Lincoln to write the emancipation proclamation unlike Muhammad Ali who inadvertently took on the names of slave masters, he truly was scammed by the 'scammerers'. |

OLAADEGBU:Muhammad Ali, was originally named Cassius Marcellus Clay Jnr after his dad, Cassius Marcellus Clay Snr, a handsome, hard drinking, skirt chasing dandy of a daddy man. The separate or other Cassius Marcellus Clay, the politician, was a slave master, who upon hearing the speech of abolitionist William Llyod Garrison freed the slaves that were handed down to him as his inheritance from his father, then went to work for the abolition of slavery |

OLAADEGBU: Jesus never had slaves but that doesn't mean that Christianity is against slavery. Just like how Jesus never got married but he supported the idea of it. |

OLAADEGBU: Abraham the patriarch had slaves and Jesus never said anything against it. It's the rebellion in Eden that led to so many evil things mankind practiced but Jesus had to take it one after another. Note that Jesus never handled money throughout his ministry, an indication that we won't also need money in God's kingdom. But for now mankind is working out things gradually after considering thngs making it difficult for us to live together in peace. Jesus actually worked hard blot out racism and politics from the minds of his followers, this has helped them to continue in the concept of forming a global family. Even after Christianity has been firmly established, first century Christian still had slaves, both masters and their slaves embraced Christianity, that's why Apostle Paul wrote in his letter to Christians in Colossea to treat each other well despite the gap in their social status! Colossians 3:23 |

Fair Treatment of Slaves "1“These are the regulations you must present to Israel. 2“If you buy a Hebrew slave, he may serve for no more than six years. Set him free in the seventh year, and he will owe you nothing for his freedom. 3If he was single when he became your slave, he shall leave single. But if he was married before he became a slave, then his wife must be freed with him. 4“If his master gave him a wife while he was a slave and they had sons or daughters, then only the man will be free in the seventh year, but his wife and children will still belong to his master. 5But the slave may declare, ‘I love my master, my wife, and my children. I don’t want to go free. 6If he does this, his master must present him before God. Then his master must take him to the door or doorpost and publicly pierce his ear with an awl. After that, the slave will serve his master for life. 7“When a man sells his daughter as a slave, she will not be freed at the end of six years as the men are. 8If she does not satisfy her owner, he must allow her to be bought back again. But he is not allowed to sell her to foreigners, since he is the one who broke the contract with her. 9But if the slave’s owner arranges for her to marry his son, he may no longer treat her as a slave but as a daughter. 10“If a man who has married a slave wife takes another wife for himself, he must not neglect the rights of the first wife to food, clothing, and sexual intimacy. 11If he fails in any of these three obligations, she may leave as a free woman without making any payment" - Exodus 21:1-11 |

Maximus69: There is a difference between slave trade and having slaves/servants. Don't we have slaves/servants in Africa? Is it not different to what obtains in the middle east today? |

Maximus69:The royal law commanded by Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour of the whole wide world automatically says volumes against having slaves. The essence of the royal law speaks against slave trade. OLAADEGBU:As like OLAADEGBU has put it, Jesus did not endorse slavery and neither subscribed to slave trade. Some are judging a belief system by what certain patriarchs did or say. Slavery was ubiquitous in the Mesopotamia day and time of living of the patriarchs, and so, it is not uncommon or strange for Egyptians to be bought or captured as slaves. From the beginning, it was never so, that one man should dominate or subjugate a fellow man. This was never part of God's vision, mission and intention. |

OLAADEGBU: There is a huge difference between slave and servant! Slave ~ human kidnapped and sold to rich people, the slave could be killed at owner's order. Servant ~ one working to earn money or forced to labour in other to clear a debt, unlike the slave master or mistress of a servant will be held responsible if anything happens to a servant. If there were no slave business back in those days {Genesis 39:1} Abraham can't have slaves! |

Jesus seemed okay with slavery since he had countless opportunities to speak up against it but he chose not and that indicates some level of tolerance. Besides, in Matthew 8:5 -9, Jesus was clearly aware since he healed a sick slave but Jesus could have given the slaver the condition to free him since if he was against slavery as you want me to believe but he didn't. There is not a lot of evidence whether he supported or not but we all know that silence equals consent. |

OLAADEGBU: So it's through physical boxing that God's Kingdom is to be taken, shey? Ephesians 6:12 Well you asked a question and for the benefit of other humble followers i'll answer. The Kingdom of God suffers violence from the days of John the baptist means all the servants of God before John the baptist were declared righteous based on the things they knew about God, but right from the time of John the baptist whoever will be declared righteous will pay so much including denying himself of so many things {Matthew 10:34-39} Christianity will cost adherents so much! It's only those who are violent in spirit (those who are ready to give it all what it takes) could be declared righteous from the day of John the baptist! Luke 18:18-23 compare to Revelations 12:11 |
