Guardiola was playing attacking football at Barca and he was conceeding less than those playing DF.
Guardiola and Klop both plays AF at Man City and Liverpool and they both concede lesser goals compares to other English teams that plays DF.
Playing AF doesn't equates to conceding more if your tactics is good.

Play attacking football and keep the ball, your opponent won't even see the ball not to talk of scoring you

Do you know the people Guardiola plays attacking football with? Can you compare them to Super Eagles?

Norwich and Bournemouth also play attacking football if you want a fairer comparism

i have never been against attacking football for our team but warning that it is not ideal when we are facing the best in world football. we can do that against weak european, south american and african teams but not against the likes of brazil, holland, france, england etc
jihday:
No midfielders that can control a game, no defender that is comfortable with the ball at his feet but let's us play attacking football.

I still root for Amunike And Finidi pair.

Both are home grown, played in our local league.

Both played under the highest point of our game, the US 94 team under Clemence Westerhof.

Both played under the tactical grandmaster, Louis Van Gaal (Finidi at Ajax and Amunike at Barcelona)

Both played in the Spanish league which is known for their appreciation of brilliant passing football.

Both got their coaching licence in Spain.

Enough of recycling old coaches and give the younger ones their chances. I say Amunike head and Finidi Assistant.
I think the NFF missed a trick not making Finidi Rohr's assistant would have been most ideal. still not sold on Amunike

I agree but would have Finidi as head he us not tainted with past experience of the NFF.

Finidi brings a clear perspective with clean hands and zero politics only a desire to succeed and he is not hungry for money.
agree 100%

hahahahahaha! the problem we have as super eagles fans is that we hype our own to high heavens whereby turning blind eye to truth. the only ball playing defenders in the current super eagles are ajayi and aina. these are players who can pick out a deadly pass from defense not just playing the simple pass and also drive forward with the ball on their fee comfortably when the need arises. another who i monitored closely is tosin adarabioyo. awaziem also seem comfortable with the ball but not a regular in the team

which balogun are you talking about? the one that couldnt see regular playing time in lowly brighton and gifted madagascar a goal when trying to pass to the keeper at the last afcon?

have you seen the likes of van dyke, ramos, matip, skriniar, koulibally, pique just to mention a few with the ball on their feet?

The central defender showed off his impressive ball-playing skills, put in an almost flawless display so much so that the yellow card he picked up in the closing minutes did not take the shine off his contribution during the game.

Balogun and his new partner in central defense William Troost-Ekong helped Wolves goalie Carl Ikeme post his second shutout of the AFCON qualifiers.

Anytime the NFF wants to give the Job to Harry Redknapp or Yobo, I say Amunike and Finidi get the nod after Rohr.

Who over looks students of Van Gaal for Student of Dave Moyes?

Amunike and Finidi are better coaches than Yobo will ever be but being homegrown and playing under Westerhorf does not have any relevance to the Nigerian coaching job

Don't also forget that Liverpool (Rodgers) Arsenal (Wenger) once conceded 51 goals while playing attacking football, Norwich play attacking football and they've conceded 52 goals already. The key is play according to your strength no be by attacking football

Fulham played attacking football and conceeded 4 goals every game grin

Egypt were too predictable at the AFCON with their "pass to Salah" tactic... Plus, they didn't really have a fantastic team..

That being said,I think Rohr got his tactics against South Africa spot on...probably the only game at the AFCON where his tactics were effective..

the player a team has dictate the formation/tactics a team can use
with the pool of player Nigeria have Nigeria should be playing a possessive game with short play and a balanced/attacking formation ....I don't really fancy the idea of defending the ball for 90mins and the attackers doing nothing it doesn't sound good
Joachim pep and kloop plays an attack minded game and yet concede very few....Nigeria defense is very cool (considering how they hold brazil) and you've midfield that can hold the ball and a very sharp attack then why is rohr always afraid to try an attack minded formation or at least a balanced formation
moreover the idea of giving the ball to d oppenent and sit down to break is very primitive many coaches are already aware of this Nigeria should be playing a possessive game
Rohr really need to improve on this area

Klopp is not an attacking coach but a counter attacking coach

Ajayi is brilliant but also remember Ekong was brilliant playing the ball at the Olympics with Siasia. I think the system of the current Super Eagles have held Ekong back. He was a joy to watch at the Olympics.

Ekong is awkward on the ball even at Udinese, Ndidi is average on the ball, Etebo is average on the ball, Iwobi is a ball carrier but not a playmaker

How do you expect a coach with such players to play attacking football?

Klopp is not an attacking coach but a counter attacking coach

Pep Guardiola says Jurgen Klopp is world's best attacking coach

Pep Guardiola has called Jurgen Klopp's attacking tactics as the best in the world and agrees his brand of football is "heavy metal".
The Manchester City boss paid a glowing tribute to his former Bundesliga nemesis ahead of Saturday's Premier League showdown at Anfield.
The managerial pair have won league titles in Germany and after eight meetings between Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, the final score was four apiece. Having witnessed Liverpool's 4-1 demolition of Stoke in midweek, Guardiola was full of praise for the Reds.

"Our styles are not similar but I like a lot the way they play," the Spaniard said. "Maybe Klopp is the best manager in the world at creating teams who attack the back four with so many players, from almost anywhere on the pitch.

"They have an intensity with the ball and without the ball, and it is not easy to do that. They attack wide sometimes with [Nathaniel] Clyne and [James] Milner but they especially like to attack from inside, through the middle.

Pep Guardiola says Yaya Toure has performed outstandingly since his return following his side's 3-0 victory

"I don't think there is another team in the world attacking in this way with so many players capable of launching moves in an instant."
Guardiola will be desperate for his side to deliver in front of their visiting fans. They will start the game in third spot, one point behind their second-placed opponents and seven points behind leaders Chelsea.
He will be carefully plotting how to get one over his former adversary and admitted he had learned a lot when Bayern first came up against Klopp's Borussia Dortmund.

"I was new and it was 'wow', what a good lesson," Guardiola added. "We lost 4-2. Afterwards in the league I learned a bit more about how to control those situations but it was never easy.
"When Klopp speaks about his football being heavy metal, I understand completely. It is so aggressive. For the fans it is really good.

"Our styles are not similar but I like a lot the way they play, for the spectators, because in three or four seconds they are attacking."

Go and meet pep and argue with him kojubelo

Bruv it's very very very difficult for a black coach to get a Managers job in England as well as in Europe.

The system is intrinsically racist and corrupted.

With all the black players you have in England and with thier European A licences they cannot get a job. Best you get is youth football.

Look at what happened to Darren Moore at West Bromwich and Chris Houghton at Newcastle. Blatant unrestrained racism.

This is the English life they never talk about in the news.

sadly true. ex-international Sol Campbell has the requisite badges but has and continues to be ignored. lamps and Gerrard on the other hand where barely a year into top management but like magic the top jobs get thrown at them

As I said, it could be system hindering some players. Ndidi is no more average on the ball. He has pulled out some brilliant performances. Iwobi has shown some excellent touches of the game, workrate and insane passes that have left many breathless. Etebo might be average on the ball but in a good system, you just need order in play and doing things simply. Etebo also has the penetrating runs that can cause teams problem.

A coach with the right philosophy and system can get brilliance from our midfielders. Ekong, I repeat was brilliant at the Olympics. He distributed brilliantly.

Being homegrown is key when it comes to finding unpolished gems in the local grounds. Players who have an idea of where to find possible brilliant stars to complement our ever-growing array of talents outside.

As for working under Westerhoff is also important being both players players worked in an offensive system that Nigeria thrived in and believe we can do big things if we apply ourselves the right way.

bros balling playing defenders is not about playing the simple pass side ways or to the dm or cm midfielder. there is a game italy played in 2016 euros which bonuci from the back traded a defense splitting pass to eder who scored, that want i mean by ball playing cb.

Ball playing is also not long range passes alone but coordinated passing with the defenders and midfielders. Yes, the likes of Van Dijk, Laporte and Bonucci are masters at the long play but it is not a criteria of ball playing.

Sometimes Ramos can be atrocious with the long balls. Wasting loads, but it does not take away fro his ball playing capabilities.

Even Guardiola cut down a lot of the long ball showmanship of Laporte. How many times do you see Pique trading long balls. Does not mean he is not a ball playing defender.

A ball playing defender is one comfortable on a high line defense and can be a big part of the build up play.

All teams counter attack but when you want to classify them, it is on their strengths. When Liverpool play, they are hardly on the back foot. No matter the team. We can term them a counter attacking side. Real Madrid is difficult but if they meet Barcelona today, you can guess which side will do more of the defending. Real Madrid. But if Barca meets Liverpool, I bet it will be Barca on the back foot.

i understand your position but tactics deployed in a game depends on the opposition the team is facing. when we are playing a weaker side the high pressing and possession tactics can be deployed but when we are facing the best in the world of football i think the best tactics is massive defense and counter attacking football.

in summary, tactics deployed in any game comes with the opposition's quality and strength

Ghana made it the to the quarter finals of 2010 world cup with physical, robust and no nonsense style of player where you handly point out any star man in the team. same goes with cameroon in italia 90 and senegal in 2002. almighty morroco with their array of stars and beautiful possession football was ousted by minors benin who sat back and soaked pressure for 120 mins at the last afcon

When we are playing South Africa we should be brave enough to take on them. If we continue with this mentality, we would be in the back foot against Madagascar.

Short term results is a mirage from true success. Benin Republic will remain on the back foot and in later tournaments, you will see Morocco flying.

Our problem is that we never have a long term plan. That is why single results mean a big deal.

Spain got knocked out in the first round in France 98. Years later, they won the Euros twice and the World Cup. That was because you could see in France 98 they were on their way to something special.

No midfielders that can control a game, no defender that is comfortable with the ball at his feet but let's us play attacking football.

Can we play attacking football? Of course we can but it depends on opposition. Top teams will skin us if we dare it. If we think our wingers are fast, we should not get carried away. Top teams have defenders who'd neutralise them.
