currently rearing 100 birds 75 boilers and 25 noilers... 12 days old from a day old.. .. 3 lost.. I don't apply all those things you guys made mention.. no lamp.. no vaccination. infact I don't know about them.. where I got them I was only given some drugs to add to there water.. which have been doing.. I got them at the rate of #4000 per 50 birds. for the 100 birds that makes it 8k.. with the drugs 2k.. totalled 10k.. bought there feed.. boiler starter 4k.. gotten there cage ready.. broiler is sold here around 5-6k.. in idanre ondo state.. especially during the festive period..

am hoping to sell them during December .... any advice on what to do please... I'm a novice..
please where did you get them?

I intend to start a poultry with noilers and layers or broilers

Wow, that's interesting. N4,000 for 50? That's approx. N80 per chick. shocked . Are you sure you got broilers?? Then again, it's offpeak period but certainly that price is a giveaway.

Secondly, I have heard of people's success stories in raising birds without vaccinating, or administration of drugs in the very least. It all boils down to how you prioritize biosecurity. So it is very possible.

Best of luck bro!!!
(I would like to know your source by the way)

Thanks... I do take care of them like they are my babies... Lol.. I pray it should be a success story in the making.. by the special grace of God.. I will be here to give testimonies

@jidestroud no problem we learn everyday

@matex97 budgets vary depending on location and project for instance in constructing a cage prices vary based on size , materials and labour so I will advice u to discourse with carpenters around u , when ur through with that then u can know exactly how much remaining and then u can seek for information on your project

Good luck

Vet doctor? Nope.

The clinical signs were there. Consulted a paravet with a sample and it was diagnosed.

On further investigation from the hatchery, it turned out that there was a major issue with that particular batch. Even one kept complaining of pullorum.

Alryt... Following. Thumbs up

Hello bro. Please can you give breakdown on how you administer these on your birds. Thank you.
jidestroud:

Well, except for the commercial feeds, every other thing used is 100% organic.

List of what makes up my recipe includes;

1. Garlic

2. Ginger

3. Tumeric

4. Apple Cider Vinegar (My most essential)

5. Pawpaw leaves

6. Basil leaves (scent leaves)

7. Christmas Melon (used occasionally)

8. Aloe vera

10. Neem oil (walahi, it works wonders)

11. Red oil.

o

My brother, it's a long story. I called those buyers in swali, the woman sent her son. Wen he came, he told me he wud buy them 1500 each. I mean my birds were weighing 2.5 and above. I had no option so i sold them at a loss. The remaining ones, I heard there are hausa boys in swali that buy. I went there with a sample. We agreed 1500 per bird. They promised to come to Tombia community to clear them. I was happy. Appointed day came with no feed left, those boys stopped at Tombia junction and we're asking my whereabout. I told them to drive down to Tombia, they refused, telling me the road is not safe. I had to take the birds to them in swali. They started misbehaving, telling me it's no longer 1500 as agreed. Well, I sold some 1500 and some 1300. No gain. The few I left at home, Tombia boys( led by one Ebuka an Anam boy living in Tombia) stole them. One afternoon I dropped my feeders and waterers and fled ekpetiama kingdom.

Day 20 - Organic Kuroilers from DOC

Good Afternoon folks, it's been a positive adventure so far raising birds without the use of synthetic drugs/vaccination/medications.

This is day 20 and so far so good.

Latest addition to their organic treatment
Addition of pawpaw extract 5 tablespoon to 5litre

And

Addition of 5 tablespoon of extracted scent leaves juice.

This would be put in their water for the next 5days.

*Note*: Ginger/garlic and aloe vera is always in their water as a immune booster.

Mortality: 1 so far (Due to pullorum)

Feeding: 1 bag

I need urgent response please..
All this extracts... You did the extraction yourself or you bought them.. if you did them yourself.. can you please tell us how you go about them.. how the extraction is being done.

eyaa...suffered similar fate. I even went to frozen food and those bars in tombia junction and it turned out they buy old layers. I believe Yenagoa is not ripe for the biz, just eggs that would sell. I'm planning on reinvesting sha, maybe start up a chicken BBQ in sagbama, and also supply to hotels.

You should understand your mkt...
B/4 production.....
Buyers in your axis are not ready to pay above 1500...
from your writeup irrespective of weight...
Do a 1.8kg to 2.2kg at that price..
U still make your profit ...

If u take 1.8 birds, which market women call "aboki fowl" to them, u will pity urself. The simple truth is that there's no market for broiler birds during non-festive periods in Yenagoa.

Coryza is suspected as the culprit.

1st and foremost, seek inorganic (use of antibiotics) approach to treat your birds because I don't know how complicated the infection is. There are various drugs readily available and effective to treat it. But more importantly, I will like to address the issue of biosecurity if you most subscribe to organic farming of poultry birds.
In your case, these questions arises;

1. How often do you clean where you keep them?
2. What's the population size compared to the number of birds?
3. What medications have you given so far?
4. Are they exposed to local birds around?
5. Where do you get your feeds from? ( it so happened that I once got feeds from a store that also raised birds. Most of the birds were infected with coryza at the store and how it got to me birds still baffles me)

Well, since you could also want to use my organic remedy to treat the aforementioned disease, this is what I would do.

1. Prepare a blend of Garlic, Ginger and Tumeric.
2. Bring out the birds from their homes and disinfect appropriately, including the surroundings.
3. Place them on a continuous medication of the blend (approx. 4 teaspoons to 5litres of water)
4. Proper ventilation is also key.
That is my approach.

Note:
If you need quicker results and not a fan of organics, jejely go buy antibiotics (I don't give names angry )

Just make sure there are no other sources of water for them to drink from.

On the contrary, farming organically is more expensive

Sorry about your loss. Pls provide the following answers to the following questions;

1. Who or where did you source it from?
2. Where you given their medical records?
3. What drugs/medication have you used since Saturday?
4. What feed are you giving them?
5. Is there any heat source provided for them? (Or how exposed is your housing?)

Let's start with the above.
By the way, why are you using that for the feeders? What about your water container? I will love to see it.
