The jackass went further to created confusion on the stratum of Obas in Yoruba land when he appointed Ooni of Ife as the Chairman of House of Chiefs in the western regional assembly. This was due to fracas he had with Alaafin of Oyo. The Alaafin of Oyo never agreed to the Awololo's tribal tendencies in western region. He even formed Omo Egba parapo to oppose the silly Omo Egba Oduduwa. Awo also created the fracas between the Itsekiri and Urhubo. He mastermind the change from Olu of Itsekiri to Olu of Warri hoping to give his alleged kinsmen of Itsekiri the ownership of Warri. Awo never attended secondary school. He grew from the street and motor parks. However, I admired his tenacity to succeed and love for education.

Yeah you are right, and that 'tenacity' was driven by envy for his peers. He was present as a journalist at University of Ibadan when young Zik the orator came back with his PhD and gave a mesmerizing, earth-shattering speech to students and lecturers while also showing his mastery of different European languages, holding everyone spell-bound.

Awo never slept that night, a 'little boy' like Zik showing such uncommon cerebality was like a 'huge slap on his face'. His mates were doing well and gaining international reputation in Nigeria, Gold coast, and other countries but he was just a lousy journalist earning a few nickels to keep body and soul together.

There is nothing like nonsense about it. He, Awolowo, equally threatened the Oba of Benin and Ovie of Urhobo.

Awo swam in tribalism, ate tribalism, wore tribalism, he was tribalism personified. He tried to intimidate the Oba of Benin who quickly put him in his place

nobody wanted Awolowo as partner. Nit even the alafin . They all preferred zik. He didnt even capitulate on that even in the face of dethronement. Awolowo was very divisive....
Shut up, we Yorubas will always appreciate awoo for stopping azikwe. If he hadn't, our generation would have hated anything about him now and would have cursed his soul.

this isnt about zik. Alafin saw zik as a political leader. Zik was the most popular political icon. Of course awolowo had nothing else but to play the tribal card. He brought tribalism period

Fyi. Herbert macaulay that handed over the party to zik was youruba, the members where youruba,,,, it was peaceful. Until obafemi Awolowo started spewing tribal diatribes
Can any igbo hand over such thing to fellow igbo from another state talkless of Yoruba. Hypocrite.

Who even told you that awolowo is smart? Zik is smarter than him by far... Awolowo is just
tribalistic. Stop giving excuse
Shut up, awo is smarter than zik million times, that is why you people hate him. But he does not care.

truth is when Awolowo became leader the west became know as the wild wild west. Akintola and Awolowo locked horns, awolowo started speaking condescendingly to akenzua and ovie what was the result,? Midwest left the west. Awolowo knew just one thing tribalism, that's why in other parts of the country he isnt seen as a national icon.

He will always remain a tribal regional leader. Never will he be referred to as a nationalist. Enahoro, Azikiwe, isong, ciroma, Hassan, belewa will always stand tall above the local champ
Lol, so who sees zik as national icon?

You yorubas should stop lying, stop trying to deceive people. If Zik had not partnered with the North, over-ambitious Awolowo the opportunistic yoruba tribalist would have partnered with the North within a blink of an eye and left Zik with the short end of the stick.

Another opportunity came for Awolowo in the build-up to the civil war to partner with the Hausas and he grabbed it with both hands and legs. Very sleazy, cunning man Awolowo was.

Zik was wise to be very wary of him, especially after he (Awo) had written so many anti-Igbo derogatory piece whilst a journalist with Daily times in the 1940s and in his autobiography which was published many years before independence.

Awolowo was a character that every self-preversing and right-thinkng Easterner was supposed to be very wary of. Zik was right to eat with a very long spoon when dinning with Awo. There was no other way, Zik made the right decision given the political dynamics at play at the time. Go and read Awolowo autography published before independence. I have a copy in my office.

You yorubas should stop sounding pedestrian like a broken record, many of you don't have the facts, those of you that do, enjoy hiding the truth.

Shut up and stop talking of that norther wife called azikwe

Can you substantiate, with emprocal evidence, your assertion that NCNC was always a Yoruba party before ot spread to the East?

SamNaijaboy:
Nonsense. NCNC had loyalty from Yorubas because it was always a Yoruba party before it spread to the East. It was formed and led by a Yoruba, Herbert Macaulay, who upon his death handed it over to Azikiwe. The Yorubas following Zik did that as a part of their loyalty to NCNC.
Zik is the most tribalitic leader of them all: he should have partnered with AG to be the PM, rather he preferred to be a ceremonial President/Governor General to the North.
He also wanted to be Premier in the West after installing another Igbo as Premier in the East instead of ensuring he went to the East as Premier and working to install a Yoruba in the West using the same party that he inhreited from them.

Same way Igbos come to Lagos to prosper yet can't stop themselves from hating the indigenes that helped them prosper in their midst, always thinking they are smarter than the people who created the environment that makes them excel. Zik should have realized he was a nobody without Herbert Macaulay and the NCNC he gave him to lead without any nepotism and not attempt to rule those who graciously let him lead the party

That's a lie. Macauley did not hand over NCNC to Zik. Because of his unparalled anti-colonial pedigree, Zik as the general secretary of NCNC was the most qualified person to ascend the position following the sudden demise of Macauley. There was nobody in the entire Nigeria - not least any Yorubaman - that matched Zik's resume who could have competed with him for that position.

Educate yourself and stop regirgitating falaehoods.

Captainrambo2:
h.macauley a youruba man handed ncnc to zik an igbo man. Then there was no tribalism . Even the alafin saw zik as a friend and political leader. Till the trubalistic and divisive awolowo came along

Bodexman:

No matter the epistle written against him, the Yorubans will forever reference him and hold him in high esteem.

His name & legacies is written in sands of time.

What has all these got to do with Zik? Of what relevance is this tired repetition of Awolowo Firsts that benefited Westernn Region. These were the priorities of Awolowo as the WR premier.

And that is the reason Zik wanted to be premier of the Western region and still had his puppet in the Eastern region ? Are you Igbos seriously saying that is okay ?

If that is okay then why are you Igbos complaining that Your a should not run for the presidency in 2023 ? Do they Yorubas lack what Azikiwe had them or what I do not understood.

Captainrambo2:
Zik schooled in america in the 1920s. Then the racism was mad. When he came back to africa , the racism he experienced while studying made himstarte a movement that saw to the expulsion of white men in Ghana and nigeria mainly, where these countries got independence . Zik wasnt interested in my brother this my brother that because he was very well read and exposed person. He was more of a pan african , which is why people from the south east despise him.,( yes they do,.. thier hero is ojuku) now this man Awolowo was all about my people ... Zia was all about national while Awolowo just couldn't get past regional shenanigans

See as all this Yoruba was quoting me up & down just because I told them the truth.

If u guys don't have any other work apart from commenting on nairaland then keep quoting me without getting reply.

I still repeat it, "No Yoruba man dead or alive can be smarter than typical Onitsha man".

People that cant travel to another region and survive or dominate yet claim to be brave and smart while staying in their region throughout their life.

You guys only knows how to curse and make noise online. Even in ur region, if u mumu ur fuckup will be treated just like that mumu guy that want to disturb Igbo voters during last year election.

Why are u guys afraid to enter south east to compete with them as they enter ur region since u 're smart and brave.

Average Fulani is way wiser than a Yoruba man... Forget education. Someone can be educated yet not wise.

you people r quick to say nonsenze about the Igbos like u all r actually smart ,, Igbos r the smartest africians , in all areas there is an Igbo man standing out , if not that Nigeria is a nepotic country, u think being president , or any position at all would be a problem for an Igbo man ? The Igbos r up to the task , but marginalization, tribalistism, wickedness has stood in their way .
