Honestly, you don't have business here in Nigeria

You won't understand until you get married and can't handle marriage amd it's financial problems

Follow the advice of your siblings and relocate now that you are still single
my fear exactly. Thanks a lot Frozen70 for your contribution.

I was in your shoes 6 years ago. I had a good paying job in the oil and gas industry. I felt reluctant leaving my job for Canada. I took a vacation and visited for one month. My plan was to get a job in the one month period I was there and then resign my job in Nigeria. I did not get a job in that one month period.

I had to come back to my job in Nigeria. Stayed on my job for another 2 years and decided to take the plunge when my wife was 6 months pregnant. I decided to move for the sake of my then unborn kids. I now have two kids and expecting my third in two months time.

We had a rough start for 2 years because we knew no one in the city we moved to (Calgary).
After two years I landed a job in the oil and gas industry in Canada. We are now doing well in Canada. I now have no regrets moving to Canada; I initially did for the first 2 years. We are so happy we took the plunge. No worries about security and great infrastructure. Canada is a great place to raise kids.

My advice is that you should resign your job and move to Canada. It might be tough for the first few years but you will eventually not regret your decision. Canadian govt gives you all the support you need during the rough patch. You are usually paid employment insurance if you are laid off your job, you are paid some money for your kids if your income is below a certain threshold. It should be a no brainer for you to move. Stay blessed.
Really insighful. Thank God it turned out well for you. I really appreciate your input.

N80k a month with a master's degree? When you could make over N1m or more a month even without a Master's degree in Canada? I've even seen Uber drivers here in the US, who work full time, make over $1,000k weekly or $4,000 per month (N1.6m monthly at N400 exchange rate). It is similar to those in Canada as well. If you live well within your means and minimize your expenses you could achieve a lot back home with that. Migrate if you can. Don't even think twice about it.
thank you bro. God bless you

hmm..thank you. My mind is now made up.

You have a big opportunity bro. My wife and I jointly earn 900k monthly and we're still looking to move to Canada, starting with trying to start our application for the PR first. I would have preferred the UK but they're making migration quite difficult these days and only one of my siblings has got their citizenship yet.
Even if not for yourself, for the sake of a better quality of life for your children, try to at least consider Canada.

I made this kind of mistake when I was single, I had every opportunity to leave but I didn't take it seriously.

Married with two kids I realized that income can not give a better life for me and my kids.

Don't made such mistake. I have friends in Federal job seeking to leave. Consider leaving because of your unborn child.

Another thing to consider is you can still go to Canada build your career with sound education and work experience and still come back to Nigeria and make good money.

The fact is life is a journey. Canadian experience in both academic and work experience can take your to accomplish anything in the world but your Federal govt job can only give you 4flat and put the destiny of your unborn child in the had of selfish Nigeria politicians because you can never be sure may be your unborn child will graduate in Nigeria and get job.

My brother make hay when the sun shining. Moving after marriage can be more difficult .

Jaapaa
nice perspective. Thanks

Thank you ma'am @VickyRotex. I appreciate you taking your time to be indepth and insightful in your post.

I have a MSc degree in Environmental and Marine Pollution Management. Although, I am considering pursuing a new career in IT (as most people here have advised) or public health (I have two years experience in this field before joining the civil service and the global pandemic just reawakened me to the relevance of public health experts and health policy managers globally).

I will begin to take online courses as you habe suggested.

Also, I am a Christian and believe in the efficacy of prayers.

I wouldnt mind reaching you for more guidance. Thanks again

Oga just relocate.

You will be fine at the end.

Cheers

The maths in me did a quick calculation cheesy

For a professional to earn 80,000 naira in Canada in half a day (4hours), you will have to earn around $140,000 a year which will comfortably place that person in the top 5 percent earners in Canada - Not an easy feat. That is more like a manager/directors wage in a top organization, or a tech/engineer/tradesperson putting in extra hours/ or with decades of experience. OP seems to be in his early career. Not many professionals will earn that amount or get anywhere near that figure. In addition, around 39% of that money will be deductions at source. Then you would have expenses and bills to deal with, so we can't easily compare wages. E.g. rent alone could be as high as $1500 a month and monthly mortgage as high as $2500 for moderate living.

It may be hard to become rich in a developed country, but one would certainly have peace of mind and a high standard of living. For this paragraph alone, op should move. Everything is not about money. He should listen to his family members in Canada.
thank you

I don't want to engage with your ignorance but do you want to see a copy of my last IPPIS payslip?

It feels funny and annoying at the same time when people think core civil servants earn so much.
Bro, I know Civil servants in Federal Ministries are poorly paid. What shocked me was seeing you quote 80k as your net salary for a level 10 officer working in a Fed Parastatal/Agency. Other members have confirmed some Parastatal actually pay Ministry level salary. Thanks.

Bro, I Reside in Canada and Let’s be Frank Here, I think you should move to Canada, it will be Rough from the Start but you having 4 brothers here is a Plus for you. Secondly Here in Canada, Your Certificates or Master Degree won’t matter, You will have to start again from another Point, you can get some Certificates here to Get something close to what you Learn. Skilled Training is Everywhere and Skilled work is Everywhere. We Nigerians pay too much attention to Bsc and MBA Lol, but here,Skill works pay more too, so if you can Learn a skill before heading out here. Like I said, Canada is Good but it will be Rough for a year , 2 or 3, but you can get through it, it’s even better that you are not married nor have kid(s) yet, so I think you should move, don’t Expect too much but be Hopefully and prepare to work your Socks off. Thirdly, Hug Every Family and Friends that you have in Nigeria, Shak Beer and Eat the real Pepper Soup o my Brother, because when you get here you will be Bored and miss your friends back home. You will make new friends here though but Boredom go still wipe you Lol and be Ready for Winter. But Really Move
You sound really honest and pragmatic. Thank you so much for your contribution.

Not really, I became familiar with civil service rules when my dad was still in service. I later learn more, when I did my first degree in political science at UI.

A federal parastatal using the CONSOLIDATED PUBLIC SERVICE SALARY STRUCTURE (CONPSS). We have cried severally to our management to approach the NSIWC for a new salary structure but to no avail. My organisation is even a revenue generating one to make matters even worse. But corruption at the management level is impeding her growth.
I understand bro. This thing can be really painful.

NDakota:
The career dilemma...

Many years ago I was where you are now.

I took the road less traveled. I settled for a career in Nigeria.

I got a job in a Big 4. Then moved on to an FMCG, where the perks are much higher!

On education, I got chartered, and I'm finishing an MBA.

On family, I got married to my best friend from University, and I just made my first baby.

Do I regret not moving to the US to join my mom, a US citizen?

I do. Every. Single. Minute.

Why? Nigeria is a very uncertain place to stay and thrive. You could be up there in the sky today and the next week you're back on the mud. In a country of many poor people, you run the risk of becoming a victim of crime due to envy...post COVID-19 it'll get worse.

Look at you at 30. You're dithering. You're pussyfooting.

Look at me at 28. I still regret the mistake my 25 year old self made. I'm pushing daily to leave Nigeria.

I want to leave, not because I'm broke in Nigeria, but the collective poverty in this country scares me...

Most crimes committed today are more out of envy and hunger than of greed.

If you can, please run. For your SAFETY!

Thanks for this advise. I really appreciate. I know I might have a bright future in the civil service coupled with the fact that I am also politically aware and love taking leadership roles whenever the opportunity presents itself. However, I am worried about the current reward system....and the things I have to endure before getting to that directorial/perm sec cadre. Thanks still....I will also consider your input.

Thanks for the compliment, I'm happy you will look into the advice. I do hope God will give you the discretion to make the right decision.

God bless you Sir. Them go dey follow drag him salary like say na them dey pay person. The core civil service reward system is very poor. Most of my ogas on level 13 and 14 no get cars. Even some on level 15.
You're right.
It's only those in the health sector that earn relatively higher even at the same level.
A medical doctor (fresh) currently earns 220k and pharmacists about 138k.
Other sector workers especially the mainstream public service are only struggling, lecturers are not exempted...A new medical doctor far earns than a Ph.D other.
I've all the salary structures with me.

here:
Read this carefully
Transfer service and start process for the relocation
You get to earn better in the new agency pending your move. Yourent the visa officer to know fate of your visa and more so Canada you have to write ielts and do ECA these takes months and then wait to be invited if in the pool for federal or pnp before you know it its over a year. Take every good opportunity prayerfully and wisely and pls stay safe. Goodluck
you are absolutely right Sir. I will heed to your advise. Thanks
