Instead of these class of professionals to focus on doing many jobs (turnover), they want to use one person who is still struggling to gather to do finishing for his house, to solve all their own family problem?

No wonder many of them (certainly not all) are unemployed and have turned to emergency House Agent.

There are so many varying Factors to be considered before arriving at a percentage.
This depends on the type of job, contracting firm, Resources, inflation, the size of it workforce Etc some may go as high as ....% if you can afford them but rather than downgrading an entire profession, one is entitled to employ the services of a quack
or whoever he/she feels is able execute the project.

For clarity sake, such information is usually not made public(between client and contractor) with exception to some who claim to be.

It all boils down to your Financial Strength(budget), expectations and what you as an individual/corporate entity can afford.

THE STANDARD IS ON THE VERY HIGH SIDE AND YOU WOULDN'T WANT TO KNOW AND IS MOSTLY APPLICABLE FOR LUMP SUM CONTRACTS (Design+Execute/ Design Only/ Execution Only)

Truth is nobody does a satisfactory job without being satisfied with the payment as wouldn't want to be at the losing end and it crosses over every aspect of life at jobs and businesses.

NB: This in no way makes excuses for the bad eggs.

I do agree with your wife on the bolded.
Visitors should NEVER pass through the kitchen, to access their rooms.
I understand that you have 'old age' in mind but please, consider your immediate safety and security first and foremost.
It is someone who is alive TODAY, that can plan for TOMORROW or old Age.
There are places visitors should never have access to in one's house:
Your Master-Bedroom and Your Kitchen because those two places are your weakest point, either for what is most personal to you (documents, monetary valuables, even your wife! ) and where you make your food.

Not all Visitors will have good intentions for you and if they have to walk through the Kitchen to access their room, you have given them the right to "drop some poison" in your family food!
As a matter of fact, Visitors are never allowed in the Kitchen, if they want food, you prepare and give them (except where they have a self-contained area).
Remember, the most difficult ailement to cure is that caused by the food we put into our own mouth.
God forbid if one of those "na my family Village people" come to visit their son who just arrived from America and they see where you are living and one of them is like: His father did x,y,z to me in 1913 and decides its time for payback! E don red be that.
I am speaking from 'non-personal' experience.

Please, quikly re-arrange the entrance to the visitors room so it does not pass through the kitchen, when the time comes, you can open it up again to link the kitchen, it wont cost you much money or effort but righ tnow, it is not a priority, at least not over your family's safety.

I am not changing it at all. It is just a passage at the far end of kitchen. I could have demarcated it but I so much love open- plan buildings without the too much block works we do here in Nigeria.

If you are going or coming out to/from the visitors room, the person in the kitchen will see you. So, it is not that you must pass through the kitchen. Just that another spiral step to upstairs separates the kitchen from that passage.

Visitor here means, close relatives and not just random persons. I don't host non family members. Go to a nearby hotel and stay. grin

Depends on what you need the blocks for, but if it's normal wall 36-38 pieces for 6''while 26-28 for 9'' with good sharp sand mixed with 1/3 of plaster sand

Boss, money spent in some of these stages are too much o. How come they used 30 bags of cement in blinding and still used another 30 bags of cement for foundation block setting? I thought they usually use 1 bag of cement to set 80 blocks.

Hi Bro,
As I had explained to you, the number of bags used during the blinding stage was accurate as I witnessed its usage. My blinding thickness was about 9 inches to 12 inches depending on the topography of the blinded area. I also want to say that I don't see it as a waste, it's my house and the best is what I want.

As it relates to setting of blocks, 1 bag of cement don't set 80 blocks, 1 bag of cement will set between 50 to 55 blocks.
