The World Health Organisation (WHO) has said that the coronavirus outbreak seems to be taking a 'different pathway' in Africa as compared to the rest of the world. As the number of COVID-19 cases in Africa surpassed 100,000 on May 23, WHO noted that unlike other countries the number of coronavirus infections in the continent 'has not grown at the same exponential rate'. Despite the poor health systems in African countries, according to reports 3,100 people have died of COVID-19 in a continent with a population of more than a billion. Moreover, at least 41,400 people have even recovered from the fatal disease that was first detected in Africa 14 weeks ago. The preliminary analysis by the United Nations health agency suggests that slower rate of infections and deaths in the continent could be the outcome of 'demography and other possible factors'. The UN health agency suggested that since Africa is the youngest continent demographically, the coronavirus outbreak appears to have made a 'soft landfall'. More than 60 per cent of the African population is below the age of 25 and according to WHO Regional Director for Africa, Dr Matshidiso Moeti, it is possible that the 'youth dividend is paying off' and resulting in a low mortality rate of COVID-19. Meanwhile, The World Health Organisation (WHO) has also said that South America has become an 'epicentre' of the COVID-19 pandemic as Brazil surpassed Russia's coronavirus infection and became the second-most affected country in the world. While the global infections have surpassed 5.2 million, there have been significant spikes in the COVID-19 cases in Central as well as South America. https://www.republicworld.com/amp/world-news/rest-of-the-world-news/covid-19-pandemic-take-different-pathway-in-africa-says-who.html |

Of course. It's quite apparent now. COVID has proven to be like being pregnant with twins...You can't hide it for long. So even if casualties are being played down in some countries, we definitely escaped the worst. |

AgroTrade:I concur with you absolutely. Same WHO predicted over 1 million death in Africa by May, which led to the massive evacuation of foreign nationals from Nigeria in March, some of whom had contracted the virus already in their home countries on arrival. They'd now be regretting ever taking such a decision because here appears to be safer. Had the north not politicised covid-19 from the onset due to ignorance, the number of infected people vis a vis fatality wouldn't have been so high Now WHO is making another unsubstantiated claims. |

I have always said that our government likes to copy the white hook line and sinker without trying to see if there can be a different local way of handling things peculiar to our own system and environment. I have always been against the total lockdown of the economy here in Nigeria because the virus thrives in temperate region more than it does in tropical region. In addition, it has symptoms similar to the common flu which kills thousands yearly in the western world but we easily survive it here. Another thing there been hiding is that about 70% of those who died from covid-19 are obese which is a common health challenge in the west. From these observations, I concluded that we shouldn't copy the western style of total lockdown but rather just allow every activities to go on while we observe the basic social distance and hygiene rule but many people disagreed with me. |

SOMETHING is protecting Africa and we no longer know what. All the reasons people were giving have been proven wrong by places with exactly same conditions becoming hot zones - be it heat, humidity, sun, mosquitoes, malaria, diet - places with all that still have become hot zones! And u can’t say it’s because they are black - it is killing proportionately more blacks than whites everywhere. |
| Re: COVID-19 Appears To Have Taken Different Pathway In Africa, Says WHO by Nobody: 6:42pm On May 25, 2020 |
CanadaOrBust:covid-19 is killing proportionately more blacks only in the USA cos of the fundamental inequalities orchestrated by whites. The situation isn't the same in countries where you also find a significant number of blacks like Brazil , UK, France and Italy...I dont want to mention Spain and Russia where covid-19 spreads like wildfire because blacks aren't much in those countries. Going by the dimension the spread has taken so far in the hardest-hit countries and WHO's prediction, Africa ought to have been reduced by 20% by now in population. We should just thank God because we are least prepared . |

Corona virus can never survive in a mosquito-ridden environment. This means African countries are partially immune to Covid-19 because of mosquito |

for those saying covid19 is killing more blacks abroad than whites, its the weather and moreso, u can't compare the blacks there with our African based blacks cos we've kinda developed antibodies for malaria down here so it won't be that devastating. |

*Red alert Cross Riverians* Something new is in town whether we think it's *Corona* or not , it's very usual. There has been an increased credible reports on cases of *Anosmia*. Medically meaning loss of sense of smell and taste. My people this is not malaria or typhoid. A lot of people have been experiencing this and the government is playing politics with it. We believe this height of irresponsibility should not be tolerated especially from the people we elect to protect us. This broadcast is aimed at stirring an intervention and not to cause panic. Many persons who claimed to have had this problem showed quick recovery meaning whatever is going on don't have a lot of impact on blacks. We call on different radio stations to do a live broadcast across the state requesting for reports on suspicious cases of loss of smell and taste sensations and let's see how that goes. This is not politics If it is not Covid 19, then it is something else. We are calling on the government to take actions immediately. I am a victim We are the victims .. But I can't explain why I have loss of smell and taste and my doctor won't explain to me, rather he is scared of giving me an answer because the state government says no coronavirus. I am better now, but what about the vulnerable children and elderly people. So for them.. Share this across till it gets to someone in authority. And till every radio station take action by calling out for people with such symptoms. |

CanadaOrBust:I see.. I can see from your post that I OBVIOUSLY dont know what i was talking about and you know better lmao. You were making references to a stale information meanwhile, my fact was based on the recent statistics released last week. I'm anaesthetist and we get updated regularly about covid-19 . I dont believe in going to google, do copy and paste as you did. We share informations with colleagues worldwide. But since you have gone the google way, I'd also do the same based in the recent statistics( last week and NOT in April or early May). The number of blacks infected and died of covid-19 is less than 2% in the UK when compared with the other minority ethnic groups living in that country and the native Britons who also fell victim. Do not also forget the fact that economic disadvantage also contributed to the infection rate as seen in the USA among the minority individuals. I was also expecting you to use France and other countries I cited in my previous post including Germany as example but you were so quick to go to google and picked only UK. Please visit the site and read more. I'm off to work. When am less busy, I'd share the latest statistics with you as broken down into percentage of infection and fatality race by race in the UK in our medical journal. WHO's earlier predictions are also born a reality based on the recent statistics as the virus had spread more to white territories in recent times

CanadaOrBust:See this ignorant being, still posting May 7 stale news when there's an updated one as released 2 days ago, lol. People like you would never learn and the reason Buhari labelled you lazy youths. He was right anyway. If you need to learn, you ask for proofs and not prevail on stale information to support your ignorance. What the almighty WHO reported about covid-19 2 weeks ago is not valid as at today...I even wanted to help you by providing some facts as obtained from the "paid for" medical journal...which was why I came here this evening...but after reading your post, It would be needless and a waste of time doing so. A subscribed medical journal isn't available for free on google from where you rush go to copy and paste. |

fairfora:Get this into your skull: BEING BLACK DOES NOT REDUCE YOUR CHANCES OF DYING FROM CIVID-19!!! So we know Africans are not spared because that are black! Which was my whole point b4 you started posting rubbish. Just look at your reasoning: blacks died at 4 times rate of whites from January till May 7th, then it suddenly changed May 25 to whites rate being higher. Sometimes I wonder if you people ever think at all |
