Painful Exit of Lt. Col Aerman Abraham Gbileve

By

Samuel Aruwan

There is a popular misconception that the young ones are mostly unethical, undisciplined and materialistic. I have come to disagree with that generalization, because from the newsroom in the media where I belong and the public service space I currently occupy, as well as other spheres I have been in and still operate in, I have come across hard working young men and women who are reformists and are making things happen.

These young men and women with dreams and aspirations are seriously minded people pursuing their careers with hard work, dedication, excellence and their eyes constantly on the ball.

It is in this sojourn of life, that I crossed paths with my brother Lt. Col. Aerman Abraham Gbileve, who answered the glorious call last week and left us in pain, anguish and shock.

Gbileve was a disciplined officer, cool headed and easy going with his soft spoken mien and the grace of God that we all carry as mortals. His devotion to his calling was limitless. In a nutshell, Gbileve was an outstanding military officer with great potential and on a sure trajectory to the peak of his military career, which death cut short in his prime.

Our paths crossed when he resumed at the One Division Kaduna as the Commanding Officer covering the Birnin Gwari general area. His predecessor linked us up, and we began interacting and working against banditry in the four frontline local government areas of Birnin Gwari, Giwa, Igabi and Chikun.

In the months that followed, we worked together in various engagements in those frontline areas to great effect, thanks in large part to his unique dedication.

My last outing with Gbileve was at the usual security-community engagement at Sabon Birni, Igabi LGA where we met with traditional rulers, community and religious leaders from Bunu, Ifira, Pauta, Riyawa, Rima, Afaka and Sabon Birni.

We had a good outing; the Garrison Commander, Brig-General Olusegun Abai was the lead speaker, and he appealed for support and information to consolidate the gains against bandits. I served as the interpreter and reiterated the need to deepen the support Brig-General Abai had appealed for. I went further to say security agencies, governments and communities must work together against the looming food insecurity.

I also commended them for divorcing banditry from religion and ethnicity, and viewing it as the sheer criminality that it is, with narrow sentiments taken off the table. We posited firmly that those weaving narratives around religion, ethnicity and politics would only undermine the battle against bandits, and unwittingly provide a survival corridor for the criminals.

It was a productive outing. Gbileve pulled all the stops on his own end to ensure that our engagement was smooth and seamless. We were all happy, and on our way to Kaduna, we both agreed that our next spots would be Dogon Dawa in Birnin Gwari local government and also Kidandan general area of Giwa local government.

Unfortunately, we rescheduled the events due to the the joint military operations in the locations and opted for Kajuru local government area where we are still battling, albeit with great optimism.

A few days after our Sabon Birni engagement, I got a call from Gbileve. We talked and made plans as usual, but unknown to us it was our last conversation before the sad news would arrive to devastate us and throw us into deep mourning.

Gbileve was a gentleman, an officer to the core, a soldier full of humility and dedication to duty and motherland. He was disciplined, professional and a man full of ideas but also respectful to his superiors and all he encountered in the course of his duty. He was liked and sought for by all and sundry and praised for his doggedness and courage in the frontlines.

Gbileve’s demise is really heartbreaking, but ultimately it is accepted as an act of God. A soldier who worked around the the hotbeds of the Northeast unscathed, full of life is now called home by death, and has answered the glorious call.

While we mourn and reminisce on Gbileve, we may not know why it happened this way. However, we cannot question God. It is clearly a sad story but God knows best.

The Kaduna State Government appreciates all he did for security and peace of the State. His sacrifices will be long remembered as he has left an indelible mark.

Our deep condolences go to his immediate family, parents, and the entire Nigerian Army family. May God in his infinite mercy grant Gbileve eternal rest.

Aruwan, is the Commissioner, Internal Security and Home Affairs, Kaduna State.

Highly predictable....
Still going off point, we are talking about military corruptiin..not civillian
maqybe u need a rephrasing

We are talking strategic forward planning it is not done in isolation by the Armed forces. But in unison vwith government.

If not for the comprehensive failure of our civil and government institutions there is supposed to be oversight function and audit over the Armed forces procurement and budget.

So you are actually wrong in your view.

Emotions? grin grin grin Baba i am an Igbo dude with no sympathy towards these bloody Islamic terrorists. On March 2018 i lost one of my very good friend in Rann who i grew up with in Benue. Dude that gave me some cash to do some shopping for him in Maiduguri only to receive the news same day i left him that he was shot in the forehead by these bloody terrorist leaving his lovely little two kids behind.

I don't argue with peeps who don't stay in the Northeast grin. Living in the Northeast field locations will give you the real situation details not someone sleeping on his bed in Ojota and assuming what is happening here. Many stories never get into the media mainstream bro cool If i ever leave the Northeast alive i am going to definitely write my own part of this Insurgency story.

Whenever you are ready visit the Northeast and i will host you in Maiduguri even tho my new location is now one of the biggest towns in Borno Central. cool

I can tell you it has greatly improved
Your moniker who claimed his giving authentic news from Borno state, back in days during the dark days 2010 - 2015 you don’t dare to go to some L.G.A it was like signing your own death wish.
Only Maiduguri/MMC and Bama was the saddest. Your acclaimed moniker would not be able to work in Borno back then. We guys in S-W, and S-E wouldn’t appreciate the peace we have, people in the N.E and troubled southern kaduna, sokoto & Zamfara would appreciate it better.

The 2 star general was with is personnel riffle.

Another fine officer, General and a soldier; Lieutenant General Lamidi Adeosun He was the chief training and operations at the Nigerian Army headquarters in Abuja. At the time of the 2015 general elections, he was the General Officer Commanding (GOC) in charge of 7 Division of the Army in Maiduguri during the dark days.
He Was responsible for pushing BHT from most occupied terrorist back to the lake chad area. His one of the few generals during the era of Lt Gen Azubuike Ihejirika/Kenneth Minimah still holding a command.
No wonder he was promoted to Lt Gen.

So because there was an era when Boko controlled 25 LGAs, I should keep quiet when I see the incompetence of the Government.

So if soldiers now die in numbers I should tell their families to take heart that it was worse in the dark days? That they should thank Buratai that it is far better now than 2015?

We were around in 2009
You were not writing in bold in 2009-2015
You kept quiet
even when you announce casualties / wia/ kia
And I consult people who actually live in the Three States ( Adamawa/ Borno/ Yobe)
Your location tends to be the wrong location at the wrong time .
I was informed about the Yellow bucket tragedy less than 24 hours deliberately kept the location to myself and the aftermath whereby the NAF created such havoc of bh the villagers said the wipe out of bh smelled for days , but that didn't interest you .
You on the the other hand would report tragic incident breathlessly without actual verification , this is what destroys your credibility.
One of your favorites is to quote " bh flew into town and the NA just ran away meanwhile heavy fighting , artillery and gunfire will be going on.
One day bh as is being evidenced will be utterly destroyed you will have to report it in bold .
True Nigerians criticize NA/ The Administration ceaselessly , unrelentingly on this page and others about the thin skinned hiluxes, equipment , command and control , discipline.
We don't white wash it because it is family that is fighting and dying a friend has known no rest since 2009 and is involved
but then there are the others
can't wait to report the bad news
keep quiet with the good news ( crickets)
War is hell
let us not get fond of it
All three services and even the much maligned NPF have made much progress
The NA has a battalion that comprises solely of Snipers on three different levels
that in itself is progress on a very high level.
Anyway for now I rest my case .
Reports are beginning to filter out the bh ( shekau faction ) is beginning to crumble.

Libya’s eastern-based forces have reportedly retaken a key town from militias allied with the UN-supported government. Ahmed al-Mesmari, a spokesman for commander Khalifa Haftar’s Libyan National Army (LNA), said they recaptured on Sunday the town of al-Asabaa, about 50 kilometers south of the capital Tripoli, AP reports. The move followed airstrikes on the militias in the area.

The eastern-based forces have been trying to take the capital from the weak but UN-supported government since last spring. Increasing Turkish support for the Tripoli-based government has led to a series of defeats for Haftar in recent weeks, after months of stalemate.

Al-Asabaa is located on a key road that links LNA forces to the town of Tarhuna, their main western stronghold and supply line southeast of the capital. The LNA said they shot down a Turkish drone before targeting forces in al-Asabaa.

The spokesman added that their troops were chasing Tripoli-allied forces fleeing to their stronghold in the nearby town of Gharyan.

They are all busy doing WITHOUT RESERVATION up and down. All what is being said has been said in the past. We decided to encourage the frontline troops who may happen to come across this thread and a few have passed through. This thread is not for the top brass. It is for the military enthusiast to encouarge own troops rather than malign them while you comfortably sleep at home.

Bunch of hypocrites. If it was your chosen person in the presidency, you will be taking a different line. Feel free to create your own thread where you can criticize to your hearts content, but no, it then won't feel like trolling, will it?
