Exactly, even with Sowore social media protests had little effect, it was his connections internationally that ultimately made the real difference. You've hit the nail on the head, these leaders just don't care and unfortunately most people just vote with herd mentality.

You think people are not aware of the problem? You think majority of Nigerian men and women don't know that rape is bad? Awareness is not the problem, enforcement is what's missing! We have laws in 9ja but if you're rich or religiously connected, you can beat it! This is the difference with advanced countries, rape still happens over there but 90% of the time, the culprits are dealt with with the maximum pressure of the law.

I know, we're saying the same thing. I just don't think these protests are completely useless, I know how corrupt the system is but even a nudge still better than nothing in my opinion

I don't think so.

It is the fact we have no moral compass.

It is not like other crimes are taken seriously.

I have always said it, Nigerians can not think on their own, all they do is copy, copy. Because protest is ongoing in US , they want to start their own fake protest.
If it is possible to stop rape by inscription on Placard either on social media or on the street then why not let us do same for all the following;
1.Kidnapping
2. Arm Robbery
3. Embezzlement
4. Power Supply
5. Unemployment
6. Area Boys etc

I think it trivializes rape, comedians joke about it feely, it's often downplayed, victims are begged to forgive by family members as if it's nothing, I could go on...

I think it's deeper than just not having any moral compass, crimes are generally not taken seriously but you won't see victims of these crimes be dismissed or get demonised by the general consensus the way sexual assault victims do
