ojeysky: Apparently it seem MPP took that part serious, they withdrew the 48v and sent me the 24v. When I insisted on 48v they claim that after further check the it won't be compatible with 3kva container though they had earlier indicated that they are compatible. I was already looking to experience 48v efficiency |

ojeysky: Kindly note that the efficiency difference of 12v, 24v and 48v is very very minimal, not more than 1%. The advantage of 48v system is in the cable size. Less stress with cable, eg 12v 5000w, I will be dealing with nothing less than 120mm2 while at 48v 5000w, 50mm2 is very generous. |

Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by ojeysky(m): 1:45am On Jun 04, 2020 |
Oshomo12: Yeah cable was what I thought to be the only major advantage as well, until I saw the figures MPP was throwing around (took some time off to read about what I will be getting with the 48v). 1.5kw of load on a 24 200AH gives about 170 mins backup time but same load on a 48v 200AH gives over 400min(which is 200min if we are to match kWh capacity) so I get 30min extra backup time running 48v 100AH battery as against 24v 200AH 2 Likes

I am presently out of town. My host has a 24v microtec inverter, 4×100ah battery(series of course) and 4×250watts panels(don't know if series or parallel). Their complaint is initial batteries lasted 8 months. Installer then brought and replaced two batteries with used GBM and decommissioned two batteries leaving 2×100ah in series. The installed batteries are 6months now and backup time has again reduced drastically. My question is what kind of installer will expect 1000 watts panel to effectively charge 400ah battery? He even told them at the first complaint that 6 months had lapsed(they called him after 8 months)so warranty is no longer valid. Thus he will not be able to do anything. That was why they paid for two used batteries because of paucity of funds. These kind of installers discourage people from solar. I have advised that in the interim, they incorporate a knife switch between CC and batteries and then rewire to two units of 2×100 batteries. Thus batteries can be interchangeably charged every other day. I also spoke on changing from 14 watts bulbs to 5 watts, stop the use of conventional ceiling fans and generally learn efficient use of energy. I also advised that when funds are available, if they still want to revert to 400ah battery backup they should first get additional 2×250watts panels before even thinking of buying new batteries. And also read up on the workings of AE especially solar. 1 Like |

ojeysky: Thanks for the data sheet. Kindly check the figures very well, 24v @1500 on a 200ah gives 164mins while 48v @1500va on a 100ah gave 158mins! |

Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by ojeysky(m): 10:25am On Jun 04, 2020 |
Oshomo12: I am looking at it in a different way which may not necessarily be the wrong way as you put it. I am focusing on 24v @200ah which is 164min and 48v @200ah 402min. On a normal basis one would have expected 48v @200 to be 164x2= 324min but it's instead a whopping 402min. So that simply means that there is lower loss with 48v than it is with 24v. I hope that helps |

Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by Dam5reey(m): 4:38pm On Jun 04, 2020 |
ojeysky: Not really That test was based on Lead acid batteries and not Lithium.. On 48V you draw less current, on 24V you draw more current.. Since you have lithium, efficiency is the same when you draw 100A from 100Ah and when you draw 10A from 100Ah. No difference.. |
