I think there is a policy that makes it easy for everyone with a First Class to be absorbed into the University system as Graduate Assistants. What has happened to that policy?

Policy??.... Nigeria
I graduated with A first class too, no job, ... I even proceeded to having Masters degree, .... still no job.

Please, help me!!! I need a job before hunger kill man pikin. I graduated with a First class honors in Microbiology in a Nigerian university since 2018. Since then, I've not been able to get any job. I dropped my certificate for a while and entered street to hustle, but this coronavirus pandemic has cut off all my access to my part time informal jobs. I've been learning data analysis and other skills too. I have acquired like 5 professional certifications. Nonetheless, I'm unable to get a job. Please, I'd be glad if anyone could help me out with ANY job. I'm not picky o. I currently reside in Ilorin. I have thought of relocating to Lagos but I don't know anybody there and I'm very broke. Please, God should use somebody to help my life.
it is now clear to all that this country have failed it's citizens. My advice to you is that even if you have to work and walk in the dark alone, don't give up there is light at the end of the tunnel.

You think say Masters na Montesorri ? Or Nursery school? Somebody not get money, you dey talk of Masters, I no understand Nigerians o. Because God bless some of una with parents wey dey okay, una no dey see life from another angle at all. You expect somebody like me that was doing brick molding job to go through university, to now be looking for masters when I haven't gotten any reasonable thing to do abi? Na by force to advice person?
OP I pray you find a connection. My biggest regret is not balling properly in the Uni, just because they said I should try and make 2:1.
After the 2.1 nobody has ever asked me what my grade is when I submit my CV. Na Shango go punish our leaders wey turn Naija like this

You took the words from my mouth.

I feel your pain. I've always advised Nigerian graduates especially first class holders in STEM areas, don't think you have arrived. Do the GRE and get out of Naija for your graduate studies.

You have unlimited possibilities if you take this path. Molecular biology is an all encompassing area.

Just keep searching and hopefully you're currently located in Lagos or a place where your chances of getting a job are high. Or start exploring postgraduate studies route if you're interested.

You're right sha but for someone who is dire need of a job to live a life, applying to grad schools will be a difficult thing. Applying to grad school is quite expensive especially when looking at current exchange rates.

That is how most of you lose a lifetime changing opportunity.

Follow the HRs of companies in the sectors you would like to work. Also follow the companies and make your presence visible by posting content that would attract resource personnel to look at your profile.

Absolutely!
I agree it's not easy, but if he is willing to take the step, he will surely make it. I can count about five guys that were in the same position and yet they are in grad school today in the US and South Africa.

He can sit down and get a secondary school teacher's job and collect 20k a month or decide to advance to grad school abroad and not allow his 1st class go to waste.

On money issues, this might sound funny, but it's not the major problem. If he is sure his 1st class is genuine and is willing to take the step, he will be surprised at the level of support he can get on finance.

It all depends on him.

I have been in your shoes before. If you are interested in the academia, you can touch base with your undergraduate project supervisor, HOD, Dean, VC or any bigwig you know in your alma mater it you can be hired as a GA. Since you are still young, you can send your resume to KPMG. About 10 years ago, KPMG regularly schedule first class and 2:1 degree holders for aptitude test. If you ace the test, you stand a chance of getting an offer. You need to be resilient in your job hunting.

I wish you the best!

If you have been learning data analysis. You should be able to easily get a job of 250k a month. Real data analysis with python, powerBI etc. You just need to sit down search for jobs and apply to them and If you really have those skills do not limit yourself to Nigeria or you will regret it big time.

Op please you are still very young. You are just 22. Since you started learning data science. Give yourself to it. Immerse yourself in it for one whole year and you will be the one running away from jobs.

As for those suggesting GRE, that's a good option but most countries borders are closed and honestly won't be open till the middle of next year. If you start learning this now you would be super good by then and be able to easily get jobs. You Will be spoiled for choice.
