The bird was weak after a royal rumble with a colleague for food, water, sex and/or space, you could not pity it, you still went on to make it deficient in plumages. God is watching you.

The best you could to to the bird is to let it go and congregate with its relatives. The bird isn’t a pet and can never be a pet. It has never been made a prisoner by any other biological specimen like you.

It will just die if you continue to hinder its freedom of association with its families
If this bird should die, then you can't escape cos this is pure wickedness... It's a pure breed of carnivore, how do you intend to feed? Can you hunt for mice? If not can you afford buying fresh fish even when you have not eaten?
Once again I say to you, that bird must not die. But if you are ready to be serious about taking up the responsibility you are good to go.

That should be a Shaheen falcon, from the family of the peregrines. A very rare specie smiley
Please heal the poor creature and let it go

Why are its poses so deliberate? cheesy

You removed the feathers? Haba!
That is so cruel.

Where do you even live? It is either you are catching a mongoose species or you are caging some bird.

Lol! the pose is deliberate because the bird knows that the catcher is playing with fire. they will soon deal with him for night.

You should have let it go. These aren't pets.

Come back and let us know if it's still alive after 1 week.
Re: Finally Got A Wild Bird As Pet (Photos) by ubee(m): 9:56pm On Jun 05, 2020
My first question to you is this - Why did you pluck the feathers? What were you trying to achieve? It's sad how we Nigerians don't appreciate and understand the importance of biodiversity.

Anyway the bird is obviously a bird of prey and it's face and size makes me realize it's a juvenile. Please take care of it till it recovers and grows back its feathers. You can feed it with insects like grasshoppers especially but it is mainly a meat eater so feed it with small lizards or mice, it has to be small ones because this bird won't have the strength to tear apart big lizards because it's a juvenile.
It looks like a goshawk.

Please find an enclosure for it that is not hot and stuffy, nurture it back to full health and release it to the sky.

Male birds are more colorful and dramatic than female.

Let the bird go and meet his family, his kids are waiting for him na. He has a family to feed biko

Some people are not equipped to think too deep or far ahead! It didn’t occur to the OP that a bird that has never lived in captivity wouldn’t be able to adjust to domestic life and would probably have family that’s missing it! He then went and plucked the poor things feathers so it can’t fly!

Oh well, at least he’s not eating it!

It's definitely a bird of prey, peregrine or a similar falcon species keeps popping in my mind. Someone might come along with better info .

OP it is your duty to nurse that bird back to good health and release it back into the same spot you captured it from.
Birds of prey are not to be kept by amateurs, they can grow to dangerously large sizes very quickly, this looks like a juvenile like someone else opined and what you saw as a tussle could have been a larger bird taking out a juvenile that strayed into it's territory.

If you have not falconry interests you have no business keeping birds of prey if you are not careful it would grow and hurt you or a child those talons and beaks can be dangerous.

Nigeria needs a responsible wildlife agency I'm tired of reading people posting what new animal they found on their land and then callously went ahead to dispatch.
One day all the snake species we have within our country would be gone all killed for pepper soup.

Already we've lost many of our primates, my father once told me of a pride of lions which stopped traffic on the old road leading to Ila Orogun in the 90s I doubt there are any more lions left in that area.

These animals can be a source of tourist wealth for us in the future let us protect them.

It's a juvenile it's obviously captivated by the shiny object. Birds have been known to take particular interest in mirrors, lenses etc the way they perceive the reflection of light bouncing of shiny objects is different to ours, it's entrancing especially to juvenile birds .
