Guy, abeg stop the deception.
No deception anywhere. 2 of my uncles graduated from UI in the 70s. One now a lawyer and the other a professor of medicine and both are church elders today and never members of any secret societies. The lawyer is a member of a popular pentocirstal church . They maintained they weren't a secret society then as their activities and membership were quite open. I've seen their pictures severally which they took with past heads of state, VCs and ministers. They told us many of those who joined after them backed out when the association was later polluted with bad eggs with various factions and they started killing each other. They once said the association was set up mainly to check excesses and intimidation of the school management in those days such as undue levies and mistreatment of students as they always staged peaceful protests . The government also recognised them back then unlike now when they've gone wild and are termed occult. Can today's members take pictures with the president or governor? It would be a faster opportunity for govt to put them in jail.Go and ask wole soyinka. He would educate you more on the rationale for setting it up.

You took it out of my mouth... Cult is Cult, it was never smooth and peaceful. They victimized and intimidates "Jews" then too and talking about intelligency, there are a lot of them now that are way more intelligent than those time.

They have frats in UK an USA.... Their frats produce Presidents, leaders, ceos, innovators, etc..

But in Nigeria, it's all about wickedness, killing, raping, robbing....and every evil you can think about...

There are exclusive Confraternities and Sororities in many universities in the United States, The United kingdom...Most if not all of these confraternities and sororities were formed with the noble objectives of fostering brotherhood/sisterhood, camaraderie, academic excellence, unity of purpose...amongst members. I dare say those were the same purposes for which Prof Wole Soyinka and friends formed The Pyrate Confraternity. Unfortunately, those noble purposes have long been defeated in Nigeria blood thirsty murderers who now masquerade as confraternity members. These days agberos, vulcanizers, traders, jobless youths are members of confraternities. What a shame! Nowadays, street urchins in Mushin, Bariga, Ikorodu...claim to belong to either Aye or SEC. What a shame!

These guys turned our youths to what they have become today....killing and maiming themselves.

No, they didn't. These were frat boys. The frat culture is still practised in universities around the world, and they don't go about killing people.

What this generation of Nigerian students have turned the frat culture into is all on them. Wole Soyinka and his peers should have no share in the blame.

Frats in Nigeria started when we tried to copy frats in American universities e.g Alpha, Gamma etc
Only difference is that the frats in American universities stood for something and it is a privilege belonging to one as they can help u when u even graduate unlike Nigerian Frats only known for killing and been used as politician's tool for violence

He did not tell youths to bastardize the standard of confraternity naw.

The most powerful university secret society has always been THE SKULLS. Guess who are some of their Alumni,

William Howard Taft
George H W Bush
G.W Bush,
John Kerry Etc

See the league of men of power and influence. The list is endless but too much gbegiri and BETN9JA don scatter your brain to make you believe nonsense.

Cult isn't cult. It was a social organisation on campus in those days which comprised mainly the best brains and their activities and identities weren't hidden. It was just like kegite club. It later became a secret society or cult when it was hijacked with non-entities and gun-wielding social scums.

Ask yourself this: what upright organization at it's inception, would adopt skull and crossbones as it's symbol?
Skull and crossbones is an already well known universal sign for danger. I guess that, underneath all that altruistic bullshit the founders of the confraternity were spewing, they knew that sooner or later, they would resort to violence as a tool.
When violence becomes the norm, you don't expect intellectuals or reasonable folks to line up for recruitment, would you?
Not fooled. A snake will always give birth to a snake.

These products of broken condoms and broken homes result scums and vices like cultism, confraternities, thugry, prostitution, kidnapping, almajeri, rapists, bastardry, and murderers. Other cycles of broken homes include lawlessness, destitution, myopia, fucuslessness and general societal backwardness. Pirates or whatever they call themselves are clearly social misfits that nobody can convince a sane man to take as an option. And any society that fails to outgrow such paranoia among the future elite is doomed; perhaps, why Nigeria is a zoo.
