I think the only solution now for obaseki is to go and beg Oshiomhole. |

ogbonti:In the buildup to the 2011 elections, a wealthy northern businessman donated 36 buses to CPC presidential campaign and demanded concessions from Buhari, I think to put his men in some ministries. Buhari blatantly refused and asked him to take his buses away. Also, one of the reasons the merger talks between ACN and CPC failed in 2011 is that Tinubu's camp wanted Bakare dropped and replaced with their candidate. Buhari refused and lost that election. In 2014, Buhari, Tony Momoh and Buba Galadima realized that for Buhari to ever have a shot at the Presidency, some concessions were inevitable and an alignment with Tinubu was indispensible. Buhari compromised and the ACN, CPC, part of ANPP and I think APGA fused to form the APC. Now understanding the importance of alliances, the new APC went to court disgruntled members of the PDP like Amaechi, Saraki and Kwankwaso. This horse-trading and alignment added 3 million votes to CPC's already assured 12 million votes. Buhari understands that to win elections, you need alliances and must be prepared to make concessions. He had to lose three times to understand this. Tinubu understands that politics is local. Now Obaseki thinks insults and threats would win him a second term. It has never happened. As for you claiming I can make compromises online, well understand that if I am ever a politician, I'd make reasonable compromises and concessions to get what I want, but NEVER on matters of principles. El Rufai knelt down, Gbajabiamila knelt down, Buhari wept on national TV, Atiku wept, Theodore Orji took an oath in Okija shrine (I can't do this one), some are bathed in.... Do you understand? |

Oshiomhole is an ungrateful and a destructive person. Oshiomhole ruled Edo State uninterrupted for 8years. Obaseki supported him to clinch the position of the party national chairman. What did he (oshiomhole) want? No body is blaming the governor for under performing. The only words from his supporters are, Obaseki fighting oshiomhole. And I ask, how exactly is he fighting oshiomhole? Will your uncle walk into your father's house and walk you out to bring his son to inherit your father's house and you obey because is your uncle. Note, i have not said government house is Obaseki inheritance, telling Obaseki not to fight back is like telling the man son not to resist his uncle. |

Even if Ize-Iyamu defeats Obaseki in the APC primaries scheduled for June 22 this year and becomes the next governor, Oshiomhole cannot still become the Edo state godfather as Ize-Iyamu is far too street smart and wily to be caged like a bird. Where really will that leave Oshiomhole? He would only succeed in replacing his once docile Obaseki with a power hungry Ize-Iyamu. |

Web2020:you have already said it, that the government house is Obaseki's inheritance. you alluded to that when you said Oshiomole ruled for 8years uninterrupted, hence he should allow Obaseki rule for eight years. my brother, we should understand that Oshiomole did not just rule for 8years uninterrupted. He went through primaries to get the second term ticket. perhaps, you may say he went through a consensus. yes he went through indirect primary because there was no faction in the party. The party was united. Although, there were pockets of opposition against him within the party but he was able to persuade the majority of them to his side and the party became united. Do you now expect that Gov. Obaseki should be given a second term ticket without a primary? If there should be a primary what kind of primary should it be? In my Opinion, it should be a direct primary. This is because it will give opportunity to the different faction to vote. If we make it an indirect primary, it means you are saying the governor should get it without any contestation because most of the delegates would be commissioners, the 10 house of assembly members, etc who then do you think they would vote for if not Obaseki. but since he said he has done so well for us in Edo state, let him feel very free to come to the field in a direct primary and contest. |

emkz:My brother may God bless you and may you always be able to tell truth to power whenever you are tasked at providing such! The truth is they might have exceeded the threshold like you rightly pointed out. I am afraid he's going the route of Ambode politically, yet Ambode didn't even do half of what they have pushed Obaseki to do. He's neither an asset to state party stakeholders/party members nor an asset to his political godfather(s)--a liability across the board. |

27Pushing30:A bold but desperate move--the twitching of the dying nerves of his political career. It's a shame it's come to this; some of us have been telling him since 2017, that he need better advisers, that he needed to govern by consensus opinion. I remember reaching out to Crusoe, telling him his boss was being sucked up into a political Whirlpool, a wormhole of selfish ideologues. Alas, we have come to this instance in time where they are gazetting an order a law school student knows holds no water. |

[s] emkz:[/s] you are comparing apples to oranges my friend All your Buhari examples of 2011 or when ever Buhari started to run was when he was not in Aso Rock - your strength and influence is minimal as a contestant as compared to when you are incumbent- agreed Buhari cried- he may have even bowed down to Tinubu and worshipped him just to get the support but what happened in 2019? he became a different person and he did whatever he liked - even Amaechi his campaign director general confirmed and I quote “the president doesn’t listen to anybody” - sounds familiar ? All the people from APGA were all relegated and those that were not relegated were read the riot act to conform or be thrown out- you know why ? Life as a fresh contestant is quite different from when you are seeking re-election. I have been close to a former state governor and we talked about and I know what a governor can do to tip the scales to favor him on election day - my brother it’s a lot Obaseki can do, don’t be fooled! Lastly the alliances you mentioned were necessary because of the scope of the federal elections - Nigeria is a country of 36 states with 204 ethnic group that speak unintelligibly. With so much divisions on the basic of religion, tribes, region and political suspicions emanating from long history of divide and rule by the british and a bitter civil war and dominance of the north over the south, such concessions are necessary to advance - BUT not a similar situation in a smaller scope like Edo State elections. so all your examples above are unnecessary Sir Thank you! |

Ayodoni1:Even this is too late already. As the saying goes, "The train has since left the station." For all it's worth, I think Governor Obaseki is currently at the stage ex-governor Ambode was, when he called a "World" press conference and claimed that Sanya-Olu was a mental case undergoing treatment at Gbagada, and that he (Ambode) had irrefutable evidence to prove it. That was one of the major turning points for Ambode, IMHO. The rest is history. Those who have eyes, let them read. ........ P34c3 ..... ... |
