Direct primary won’t hold in my state, Obaseki insists We settled for direct primary to prevent crisis –APC Ruling party, Edo gov lawyers renew battle in court Monday Amid the raging crisis rocking the Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress over the mode of primary to be used in the conduct of its June 22 governorship primary, the Independent National Electoral Commission has said it will only honour the mode of primary submitted to it by the national chairman of the party.https://punchng.com/edo-primaries-inec-backs-oshiomhole/ 3 Likes

Obaseki is a goner. Although he still have chance to prove himself in other party. Lesson: Never bites the fingers that feed you. This is what we see in Nigeria politics. 58 Likes 4 Shares |

obaseki should learn how to fight political battles intelligently without running into unnecessary tensions. An executive order by a governor cannot stop people from gathering for elections. No executive order can regulate the conduct/mode of operations of political parties in Nigeria. The Constitution of Nigeria and the electoral act is greater than even an executive order from the President.Without elections there is no democracy. The only scenario where elections can be regulated by executive order is when the Constitution is suspended.Forexample, the PDP in Edo state has ward Congresses to elect non statutory delegates for their indirect primary slated for tomorrow,is Obaseki saying the PDP should not gather across the state for this exercise? 83 Likes 10 Shares |

Jorussia: We are in a pandemic and the Governor has the right to curtail movements where necessary if information reaching him shows that such would be detrimental to the health of the state. serverconnect So how did Obaseki bite the people?... or are the people no longer the provider of the food and eligible voters?... Castigate the man based on his achievements, and not based on sharing the peoples resources to political cabals. 67 Likes 4 Shares |

It seems more likely by the day that when it's all said and done, I would still ask my question; Who is better? Ambode, who remained calm throughout and refused to take a fight which he we going to lose. Or Obaseki who took on a fight with a force bigger than him, paused the fight for half time and went begging, then returned for second half to complete the fight 36 Likes 3 Shares |

I said this last week that the Electoral Act as amended gives the NWC to choose the mode of primary but those online e-warriors who don’t know anything about the law we’re here calling us names. Obaseki is a goner even if he move to another party he will be disgraced after he hand over. Oshiomhole waited forever this time to put the final nail on Obaseki’s political coffin and now he will bury it. No Gazzetted order can stop the primary election because the electoral act and the constitution overrides the useless order Obaseki is relying on. Sometimes I wonder how all this politicians pass in school. Cc: duwdu 51 Likes 5 Shares |

Jorussia:Executive orders by a governor can stop large gathering of people, if such gathering can lead to a spike in death cases. Remember the primary role of a governor is to protect lives and properties of it's citizenry. So in this case, large gathering of people might lead to spike of covid 19 which invariably will cause loss of lives...and as such, he as the governor is performing his primary job, which is protection of lives, by preventing such scenario. This is actually the submission of a senior lawyer though.. 8 Likes 3 Shares |

drskyfly007:Na how una ipob member go take chase this man inside political pit with una fake laws b this. Maybe you should try to change the Nigerian constitution first before backing your foolish gazette. As long as window is opened by inec, even the president has no power to ban political gatherings cos he is a product of same political processes and above all, he is not equal to or bigger than the constitution. Pls dont forget to go to Edo state to support him in the primary. Online support can't be counted in the ballot boxes. 37 Likes 3 Shares |

This is just the beginning and Obaseki is saying he'd stop the direct primaries. Does he even have control over security forces to enforce it? INEC has sided with the party and be sure they won't accept any other mode of primaries. If the state conducts its own primaries beside what the NWC approves, the party chairman can decide not to accept it. Governor Obaseki, I know you are reading or Crusoe Osagie is. Oshiomole is a problem because you created it. Oshiomole lacks the clout of a political heavyweight like Tony Anenih. Go and placate the 14 house of assembly members, Tony Kabaka and state party leaders like Pius Odubu, Chris Ogiemwonyi, Solomon Edebiri and Ize-Iyamu, and make the necessary compromises. You are busy fighting your imaginary enemy (Oshiomole) while ignoring the real power brokers in Edo State who determine the tide of elections. Oshiomole cannot unilaterally order the other politicians to drop their ambitions and support you because they are not there to serve Oshiomole's interest but theirs. Go and engage in horse-trading, get their buy-in and reduce Oshiomole's influence in Edo politics. The way to do it is not by going to Tinubu or Buhari or issuing infantile threats like telling the national chairman to recuse himself from the party primaries being an interested party or saying that you are not in support of direct primaries. Every member of the party is an interested party. A good war general does not talk about his moves, he makes them like Oshiomole is currently doing. You may need to hire consultants and lobbyists to advise you properly and stop listening to people like Charles Idahosa and Anslem Ojezua. Left to me, I'd tell you to throw in the towel because if they mess you up, you can as well forget about taking any board or political appointment in Nigeria or abroad because a political neophyte is seen as a liability everywhere. 31 Likes 3 Shares |

Obaseki knew what he was doing by dishing out Covid-19 figures for Edo. All of a sudden, Edo is number 4 of NCDC Covid-19 table. But Oshobaba still no go gree. This is a delicate period for Obaseki. If Oshiomole loses this fight, life continues but if Obaseki loses, this might just be the end of his political reign. 15 Likes |
