Okay, there have been a few people in the last one week who have stated they need wood for deckings and the price is visibly high.
My suggestion is: why cant you guys band together and contribute money to buy enough wood and then use it, one after the other?

Lets say each persons need of wood will cost 500K.
Contribute #250K each (totalling 750K) and buy EXCESS WOOD of 600K. Keep #150K as "Float" Money, to be returned if there is no use for it
You can even decide to buy Marine Plywood, instead of 1 x 12 Planks

Mr A will start and use with minimal damage but whatever is not useable after his use, will be replenished with the excess from the #100K.
Then the Woods are removed and Mr. B uses it and the process is repeated? If there is need to buy more wood, the FLOAT money will be used to buy it.
Finally, Mr. C will also go through the same process.
If Money is left, you all share it equally.
At the end of the day, all of you have achieved your desires and saved #250K each, minimum.
It can be done if everyone is honest and not greedy, not selfish.

Its just an idea that l think may work.

This is a GOOD idea to save cost ONLY if.

Mr A,B,C sites are close to each other if not
-Cost of logistic.

-Cost or removing it.

-Time wasted ; the time Mr A will take to Setup the wood ( formwork) this will take like 2weeks plus the time the plank will stayed for the concrete to dry 28days Total 1month 2 weeks for only Mr A, same to Mr B to mr C this will take much time and the wood will weak before it will reach Mr C. Only if the last person will use it as lintel work or others non heavy work like decking

-Mishandling;Diff carpenters to handle the installation and removal this will also reduced the number of the woods like 5/10pec off.

Size of the slab: users size of the slab will also contribute to the loose of some plank bcs some plank length will be cut to fit some area in Mr A site which will a shortage length in Mr B site.
At the end some of completing Mr B site some plank will be wasted

Dear All,
Please I need honest advice from professionals I want to do steel from foundation to lintel for my three bedroom and 1mini flat building,so someone advised me to buy a ton of 12mm steel in order to save cost and moreover since I'll still do soak away and the stand for storex.
Lo and behold the guy that want to do the steel work said a ton of 12mm would be too much for the project.
Please what is your advice and which of the steel is better, Local or Cbc
I'll appreciate your urgent response,please

Thank you

The price of wood has not really increased that much I'm a wood dealer in Delta State and currently wood price has dropped..

The above suggestion are nice but I don't believe it has come to that.

Aventures:
if the concrete has been set a little before the rain, and moreso if the concrete mix is Rich there may not be any problem. But I will advise you do the integrity test on the concrete after.maturity for the sake of your peace of mind.

I was a bit worried when I saw the washed upper side, but after it dried and more rain and wind washed the sand off it came out fine....the picture below was how it looks after 8 days the concrete was set.

Thank you so much.

That's my line of thought. They gave me an outrageous bill of N550,000 for planks only for decking 29m* 6.5m floor slab. This exclude Carpenter's labour, iron bender, engineer's supervision cost, plumbing, and electricals in the decking. Hence, the bill for only decking, excluding Cement, reinforcement, sand and granite came to N1.5m.

I told them, I will never spend N550,000 on planks that cant be used for kitchen cabinet or doors. Never.

I will rather rent all for between 50,000 to 100,000 than waste almost 600k.

On a dimension of 7.6m by 19m, my client spend 600k on wood. So, dont call it outrageous bill.
Have you considered the cons of using a used wood? If you will be renting, is advisable you rent not an overused wood to avoid deflection of your decking.

Roughly 1100 blocks for the four courses, but I will advice you make it 6 courses so 2 blocks will be below and 4above the ground level....in this case, roughly 1650 blocks

Weldon's sir, I saw on your signature that you make block on site. Someone in this forum need your help on how many block can be made from one bag of cement...pls help

Alot has been said about this "block making topic" you can search on NL.

My opinion is that, like everything else in building, it's all about PREFERENCE (choice) and BUDGET /COST

Some do 25, 28, 30, 35 etc...

Personally, I would do between 28-30 for a 9" block.

Its most likely too much ma..

But I cant tell you for sure if it is or not because we dont know how many columns you have, if you will be doing a concrete fascia etc...

I once did a 4-bedroom where the previous Engineer used about 22 columns for a house that didn't have concrete fascia.

I discovered recently that blocks being used on my site is 5inc, instead of 6inch. The building is at 4 course dpc level, with starter column.
Can I continue from dpc with 6in block? Will there be any effect?

30tons Granite is 200k Island, V.I, Ikoyi, Lekki
30tons Granite to Mainland is N180-190k
as at today delivery.

Wood is high, Iron rod the most unrealistic or stable price. Vibrated block with stonedust will be high too, Marine board is 8,600 today,
the only item that is constant now is Cement @2,580.

White wood for concrete 1x12x12 board(sawmill) is sold @N1300today transportation to site excluded.

I assume you have not done your oversite concrete (DPC)yet.....

ensure your columns are not too far apart (you may need to introduce column to support the 5inch block)

ensure your columns is 6inch as you can still correct that now

do your oversite concrete (DPC) (very important) with proper mix

you can continue your work with 6inch block

Thank you very much. I've not done the oversite concrete yet, I was thinking of flooring it later. The builder said there's no problem with 5in, but I don't feel comfortable.
