So what course can fetch you a good job without connections
princeogbeide1:
Animal science is not good course here because Nigeria is far backward. You will end up with regrets when you want to work with the degree except you have a strong government connection that can fetch you a job afterwards.

You don't enter into a profession just for the money, though it's also important but for the interest then the money will flow in later
Animal science is gonna be a gold mine now that attention is shifting to agriculture

Please is animal science different from zoology

Yes, very different. Animal science is Focused on livestock and livestock production while Zoology studies the animal kingdom, including the structure, embryology, evolution, classification, habits, and distribution of all animals, both living and extinct, and how they interact with their ecosystems.

Animal Science won't pay you. Even Veterinary Medicine isn't selling in Nigeria.

Currently, my candid advice is write another jamb exam or concentrate your effort on IGCSE (an International Exam).

It pays to "suffer" and study courses like Medicine, Aeronautical Engineering, Aviation courses etc than coming out from the University with a Degree of 4 years and start searching for job that will not sustain you at all.

Yes animal science is more focused on domesticated animals and animal husbandry, zoology is broader and studies all animals living or extinct.

See I don't care to read the other stuff besides the topic before replying...and in my own opinion No, animal science is not a good choice of course to study in Nigeria....

Goodluck Jonathan Studied Zoology, Buhari did not have certificate and yet they both became President so you as an animal scientist you have hope you can become a governor or councillor you never can tell

It's a good course. You're not just in a good country to do it. If you have business skills, you may be able to use it to your advantage by running your own farms, and providing consultancy.
take this advice

Ask yourself first which course has a sure guarantee for job after completion in Nigeria? Even medical personnels wait for longer time before placement nowadays which hitherto was never the case. By and large, I will advise you Animal science is a very good course.

I studied Animal science, after my service I enrolled for my masters degree (in another field) thinking it will brighten my chance for getting a befitting job, but things were not working the way I wanted. So I gathered some money and venture into animal rearing while my other colleagues were still searching. I started with poultry and later fishery. Infact I later got a part time job that never disturbed my own business, and to God be the glory, everything was fine.

The point is, in Nigeria of today where getting a job after the completion of one's degree is as hard as rock, courses that guarantees self employment after its completion has edges for survival over many others and Animal science is one of those courses.

Am a proud animal scientist. Studied Animal Nutrition @ FUNAAB and had my M.sc in Agricultural Biochemistry at U.I .
This last few month really opened my eyes to alot of things particularly how important farming is.
I work in An integrated Farm as the manager and during this lockdown, I placed an advert on social media for job opportunities. People with B.Tech, B. Engineer, and political science graduate applied for farm attendant Job.
The pandemic lead to alot of company and industries to lay off some of their staffs and there is massive unemployment in town at the moment. but farmers are still working, birds are still laying eggs and our staffs and labourers are still earning and meeting their needs.

My guy just study hard and ensure u know the tifun tedo of animal science, the technical know-how and u are good to go.

Respect to all Engineers and Polical scientists in the house. No harm intended.
thank you sir. I'm a graduate of Agricultural Extension & Mgt and I'm currently managing a commercial farm, there's no effect of pandemic in our field like you said our birds are laying everyday, we just sold off thousands of Clara spp catfishes last month and we're about to restock the ponds, our ruminants are breeding and doing fine, we're working here because we must attend to the livestocks but other graduates today who thought they read better courses than us are all idol now amidst pandemic adding to already high number of unemployment. I'm a proud agriculturist. I pray my Fathers help me succeed my Masters and PhD in Animal science. It's my greatest dream from time to be animal scientist. Shout out all agriculturists and animal scientists in the house.

Is animal science a good course?

What are the job opportunities and what is the average salary of an animal scientist.

Urgent answers needed please.

There is no good course and there is no bad course. What matters is what you graduate with and your creativity in what you study. In Nigeria, it's about what you graduate with. Not necessarily the discipline. That's why a first class graduate in Yoruba will get the job at a bank whereas a 2.2 graduate from Accounting won't.

Agriculture is the future in nigeria. The federal govt banned importations of livestock. Meaning if you take your study seriously and practice in your own little way, you can tap into that policy by producing frozen foods at cheaper rate.

The herdsmen menace is a source of concern currently in Nigeria. If you study properly, u may devise a means to solve the problem we face and make money from it.

What matters is taking your courses seriously. If you graduate with flying colors, you will get a good job at an unrelated field by God's grace and use the capital raised to invest in your livestock farming.

All the best.

Well, I am not his parent but the sound of the course "animal science" makes me see a blank future ahead, especially in a country like ours where there are rotten institutions allover.

Beside, there is nothing wrong if OP left his parent at home and decided to come online to ask question rather than asking his parent...we are all family in Nairaland; you know.

My wife read that course at OAU and she didn't get job for 10 years. We eventually travelled out and she started a new career in accountancy. She's doing well now. It is difficult but God may help you

Yes Sir. It's my greatest dream to be a zoologist. I have passion for study of different animals ranging from the 8600 spps of living birds to the oldest reptilian order and archaeopteryx, the atiodactyls and carnivores, the primates and aqua organisms to largest group arthropods. I'm proudly an agriculturist and working in my field, managing a great deal of livestock farm currently. No pandemic in our field, it's the best thing you can do for yourself if you study animal science. I'm working to become a great animal scientist and uphold a PhD in Zoology. Nothing brings you more closer to mother nature than studying agricultural/animal science courses.

No course in Nigeria is employable, even the almighty medical graduates are still looking for jobs except ur papa owns an hospital or knows who owns one, In ministry of Agriculture both state and federal, the first people they employ are the animal scientists and they are the highest paid people in ministry of Agriculture
But generally i will advise him or her to study wat he or she is passionate of
