Good evening everyone,

Hope you are good?

I got an admission into Thompson Rivers University for a Post Baccalaureate diploma in Finance.

There is “Not Visa Purpose” written on the Conditional Acceptance Letter issued to me and that I will be issued with an Unconditional Acceptance Letter once I pay my fees (both Tuition and other fees).

My question is can I use such Conditional acceptance letter for study permit application processing?

Frankrobbn1:

Please waste no time again. You can apply for your visa with the conditional acceptance you received from the school. IRCC will not reject your application once you can demonstrate that the conditions stipulated on your acceptance letter can be met. I can barely count how many applicants I know that were successful with conditional acceptance letters. I don't see why you should be waiting until this moment before submitting your application.

I may also provide you with proofs so as to validate this information and quench your curiosity.

Frankrobbn1:

Permit me to combat my intended point of view about the above matter. It is a well-known fact that Canada visa thread on Nairaland moves faster than Australian Student thread, this independently doesn't convey that there is leniency in visa issuance for Nigerian students travelling to Canada than Australia. Instead, It is as a result of the following shortlisted factors that influenced more applicants wanting to further their studies in Canada than Australia.

These deciding factors includes;

1. Canada tuition fees are way cheaper than Australia.
2. The chances of becoming a permanent resident of Canada is high whether your program is in demand or not. Once you're done with your studies and have acquired at least a 1 year working experience in Canada, You're very eligible to dive into the Express Entry Pool or possibly get nominated by the province where you schooled. However, in Australia the reverse is the case because if the expertise of your program is not in demand you will be forced to return to your home country.
3. Again, the cost of living is cheaper in Canada than Australia.
4. In terms of universities ranking, Canada is uppermost than Australia.
5. Furthermore, Scholarship availability is higher in Canadian Universities than in Australia.
6. Another driving factor is the fact that Canada doesn't require applicants coming from Nigeria to show proof of English proficiency (IELTS/TOEFL) in any stage of the process (admission or visa). On the other note, English proficiency test is a compulsory requirement for every applicant going to Australia for studies and it's also a requirement in the Australian Study Visa application.

I believe the above information will give you a proper insight as to why Nigerians prefer Canada over other top study destinations like Australia.

Quick Question:
While writing LOE, is it advisable to be subtle about the last application refudal or address it head on?

If you were refused a study visa then I would expect that your letter of explanation should be centered around showing why the last refusal was a mistake or how your situation has changed. There’s no need avoiding the topic. As soon as your application is opened the last VO’s notes which details his reasons why he refused you.

It’s better you try your best to address the issues otherwise you might just get the same response

Hi nairalanders,

Pls, I am a secondary school graduate from the year 2018 that just turned 18. I applied to Brandon University to study nursing of which I was admitted for a one-year pre-nursing program (after which I'd be admitted to the full program on passing further requirements for the course).

I have prepared my living allowance of up to $11000 CAD and my sponsor, who happens to be my uncle, has paid half of my fees for the session.

So far, I have the following documents:
* Letter of Sponsorship from Uncle
* Admission letter
* Receipt of school fees payment
* Bank statement of 6 months from sponsor
* Bank statement of 6 months for myself (already having the living expenses)

Now I want to apply for a study visa for admission.

What are my chances of getting the visa pls?

Are there any other documents/requirements I'm missing out pls?

Pls, advise me on what to do.

Thanks

The only thing I can think of is maybe an explanation of what you were doing since you left secondary school in 2018. It would be great if it was something related to your chosen career now or some form of volunteering.

Paper applications are taking longer than expected. I think you need to exercise a little bit patience until July when the travel restrictions has been lifted and VAC officially re-open again.

hello, if one gets a fully funded scholarship to study in Canada, will proof of funds still be required and if yes, is it the same as those without fully funded scholarship?

Good day house. I have some pertinent questions:

Regarding medicals:

I have an appointment for an upfront medical exam slated for 24th June at IOM Lagos. I have not yet submitted my study permit application but I plan to do so before the date for my medical exam.

My question

1. In the study permit questionnaire where it asks if I have done an IRCC approved medical exam; do I answer yes or no?

Regarding sponsorship:

2. Does my sponsor's bank statement have to be from mybankstatement or can it be a normal statement of account showing credit and debit for the last 6 months?

3. Does the Affidavit of support have to be notarized in front of a notary public?

4. Is it advisable to submit a letter and affidavit of support from my aunt in Canada stating that I will be living with her during the course of my study?

Thanks in advance.

Irrespective of your funding from the University, you need to show proof of funds for your flight itinerary and miscellaneous expenses which you might incur during the course of your studies in Canada. I always advice fully funded applicants to submit at least a bank statement with a closing balance of 1.5 to 2M. This amount is adequately enough in your visa application and it has worked for countless applicants. With that being said, if you don't have the stated figure in your account, you can get a sponsor with an available balance of 5M to cover those incidental expenses.

I hope this information is useful to your enquiry, feel free to ask questions anytime.

Question 1 - You have to answer NO, because during the time of your application submission, you have not undergone any medical examination in the last 12 months.

Question 2 - Any of the two (MyBank Statement or the regular SOA) would work and its very much acceptable by IRCC. If possible, you could get the Mybank statement since it's something you can easily generate using your mobile banking app from your comfort zone without visiting the nearest bank branch office to obtain your financial statements.

Question 3 - Affidavit of Support is a legal document and as such must be duly signed and stamped by either a Notary Public Officer or Commissioner of OATHS. At this present time, the federal high court is yet to reopen in most cities in Nigeria. So, a notary public should be your best move to notarize the document.

Contrary to what Frankrobbn has said, I'll tell you to only make sure you have some money in your account. Even N500,000 will be enough. Don't go and borrow money or look for sponsors when you already have funding. Getting a sponsor will complicate your application and indicate desperation. Borrowing money will attract question marks as to the source of lump deposits and your rationale.

If you already have up to or more than N500,000 in your account then you're good to go. If not, get a family member, friend or close associate to gift you the money and then explain that in your SOP. The VOs already know that applicants with funding will definitely find a means of leaving Nigeria. They are more concerned with what happens when you reach Canada and your funding answers that concern.

I've seen people who applied for fully funded thesis Masters and PhDs with only N100,000 in their accounts and they were approved. Don't complicate your rather straightforward study permit application. Focus more on home ties and prospects.

Ignore what I've written if what you have is PARTIAL FUNDING.

This is normal, and it has no significant effect on your ongoing study permit application. Almost every candidate received the request to complete a survey as regards to how the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the visa processing and allow IRCC to better understand how clients are experiencing the situation on ground.

Yeah you can do that. Nonetheless, you must demonstrate you have significant ties (i.e economic and professional ties) back home that far outweighs the incentives of staying back in Canada after studies. Given that your aunt will be providing a letter to support your studies in Canada your reasons for coming back home must be well articulated and detailed to convince the visa officer that you're a bonafide student.

Thank you for your response,

I will like to add that I was denied a family visiting visa around February this year, so I will like to know if this will affect my application because I will be applying alone this time around and also do I need to made mention of it when writing my SOP?

Also, I had issues getting my former passport which I had traveled with to North Cyprus with 2 years residence permit at the Austrian embassy in Abuja as they claimed it has been taking to Ministry of Foreign Affairs and on getting to Foreign Affairs they said it’s not there so I had to do another passport which did not have any stamp at the moment.

See below reasons:

Thank you for your interest in visiting Canada. After careful review of your temporary resident visa application and supporting documentation, I have determined that your application does not meet the requirements of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA) and Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations (IRPR). I am refusing your application on the following grounds:

I am not satisfied that you will leave Canada at the end of your stay as a temporary resident, as stipulated in paragraph 179(b) of the IRPR, based on your family ties in Canada and in your country of residence.

I am not satisfied that you will leave Canada at the end of your stay as a temporary resident, as stipulated in paragraph 179(b) of the IRPR, based on your personal assets and financial status.

It can be paid through online via flywire corporation website and the current charges is between 355 and 360. The charges are radically high when using flywire. Alternatively, you can get someone in Canada to help complete the payment on your behalf at the rate of 295.

And also you don’t need to mention it in your statement of purpose

Secondly if you are to make mention of your travel history you must add sources of good proof since you don’t have your passport to do the talking for you

As for the denial reason the experienced GURU would quote you and give valid advices

I understand you very well and I know that it wouldn't hurt to have a sponsor. However, the point I'm making is that the applicant has a strong advantage which many do not have. He shouldn't complicate his application by adding too many unnecessary documents. He should, instead, focus on where refusals can came from now: home ties, prospects, documentation.

Well, it's true that fully funded applicants have upper edge to other prospective applicants with no funding. With that being said, this doesn't guarantee 100% that the visa will be approved as I have seen applicants with full funding been rejected and end up losing their scholarships. The scholarship beneficiary must present his/her application in a very satisfactory manner that will convince the visa officer that he/she is indeed a genuine applicant with adequate economic and professional ties back home that could motivate their departure after studies. I trust the op will make the most of the advices given and put his application in a better prospect of getting an approval.

I guess you don't know what full funding means. You should google that.

Basically, he won't need to spend a dime of his money for as long as the funding is on.

N500,000 is enough to cover for flight expenses. If he has more than that, its all good. If not, he shouldn't seek any sponsor or borrow money. That's the point here.
