Thanks man. Have you gotten any data analytic gigs there? I know people who pull in clean funds from other skills there but haven't seen data analysts.
No bro, I haven't really utilised the functionality of the platform cos I'm yet to solidify my skills, I have only applied to few gigs, but I'm sure if one intensifies the hunt, one would get gigs.

Have been learning python now for few weeks downloaded a lot of tutorial on pandas, numpy matplotlib. I used great learning tutorials and some other ones. I downloaded some data too for practice, am not convinced that I know this tools well. Can anyone help me on some tutorials videos that I can watch to broaden my knowledge and also what are the things to look out for to attain professionalism using Python

You are so so right on this
They copy each other for their advert. They will be asking for a full IT department skills for a data analyst job
seriously, the situation is pathetic. I even saw an advert for data science where the say 10years experience, I was like, it is not up to 10 years since data science came into prominence.
my advice is that you guys should apply for data analyst job or even business intelligence .na surest way to data science field.

Pls how do I tell my boss that I want to start playing the role of a data analyst in the company.

I work in a small company that is into the production and sales of a Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMGC) .

I'm done learning excel and I'm currently studying SQL - mysql
This is a very interesting question I have some experience with, and I'll give you a good answer. Don't tell him. Just show him.
Get the data and do something magical with it. I'm not talking plots or charts. Far from it. Derive good insight from the data that you believe can significantly improve production if you guys adjust just a little teeny bit in the production cycle. Show him using the many tools at your disposal why you think that adjustment may work. He doesn't have to implement it, but once he sees the passion you are showing and the direction you are moving, he'll give you the role you need.
And if for some reason your insights are powerful, I see no reason he wouldn't at least attempt to use some bit of it.

Good morning All and happy Sunday

I need assistance from everybody in the house

...I will be doing a video interview not too far from now and one of the questions I am expected to answer is : In what way, what sector can data science, data analytics, machine learning, deep learning be used to solve problems in Nigeria and how?..

What are these problems and how can they be solved using these skills... I need inputs especially from guys already in tie field in Nigeria?

Lastly what is the major challenge hindering the progress of data science in Nigeria and how can it be overcome?

I don't think there's anything wrong with scrapping a website. But if you assess any website too often (using a script), they'll mostly likely ban your IP.
Now, while there may not be a problem with scrapping and collecting information, there may be a problem with using the information. The laws aren't so clear, so you may have to find out how it applies in each case. Basically, it just means you have to be careful with usage of data you collect.

I'm not an expert here, still learning but I know machine learning and data science would solve problems in almost any sector in Nigeria, ranging from Health(Determining best health practices), transportation and what have you. The major problem Nigeria is having with regards to data science is mainly data collection.
Most sectors in Nigeria are not collecting enough data or they do so in papers. Now imagine what stress one would have to go through to compile those data into computer. And that's if they can keep these files adequately. Often time we have cases of missing file data of people in different sectors. I attended a webinar of recent where this data science 'practitioner' was to analyze some data to create insight to those who'd be needing some sort of training in a Nigerian Ministry. He mentioned how lack of readable or a my data at all was a major setback. So I think this data collection is just the major problem in Nigeria as regards data science.

It is not advisable to be learning with Python 2 in the year 2020. Python 2 will be discontinued this year i.e there would not be official support for it.

There are some differences between Python 2 and Python 3. Get a course that uses Python 3 to teach.
