Hello everyone, I decided to create this thread to encourage people to venture into watermelon farming because it is very lucrative and interesting. This thread shows my watermelon plants growing, as I want people to know that watermelon farming is easy,e no be ogbanje crop oo as people used to say. Taking care and being patient are one of the ingredients of producing sweet melons.

All the plants are disease and pest free.
Ensure that pests and diseases don't attack your watermelon plants, because there is nothing you can do to stop it.Prevention is key

My biggest problem in water melon farming are squirrels. Once it starts fruiting, they will bore holes on the fruits and from there they rot.
I'm even surprised they didn't attack my maize farm this yr.
How do I keep them off my farm.

@OP you did a great job I must commend.

Thanks, squirrels are notorious rodents, rabbits are even worse, bye bye to a farm if you see rabbits there.
Fencing can do, or adding pepper or garlic cloves around the perimeter of your farm can repel them. You can use traps to catch them or better still go to any agro or chemical store to buy rodenticides.

Your watermelon plant don't need fertilizer, they can do well in sandy loam or loamy soil. If soil is poor add manure. I added rabbit faeces to the soil(a little)

Fortunately for me I planted before rainy season.I didn't apply any insecticide or fungicide. Although I applied soap insecticide to kill cabbage loopers.Spacing is very important, that can solve 70% of pest and insect infestation. Watermelon are vines, they need space to spread, insufficient space brings pests and diseases

The surest way is to check the underside on which the watermelon sits on the ground, once that place is very bright yellow, it is ripe

I recommend this plant if you have a watermelon or cucumber farm or garden. The name is Ewe lapalapa in Yoruba, but in English it's called Belly ache bush. It helps attracts wasps that will pollinate the your flowers. So the more of it you have, the more the pollinators are to pollinate.
