World Hydrography Day: Nigerian Navy to induct state-of-art offshore survey vessel

As the world prepares to celebrate the World Hydrography Day, the Nigerian Navy (NN) says that it will induct a state-of-the art offshore survey vessel with autonomous capabilities.

Rear Adm. Chukwuemeka Okafor, the Hydrographer of NN and the President, Nigerian Hydrographic Society said this in a statement on Sunday.

He also said that the Nigerian Navy Hydrographic Office (NNHO) was ready to provide up-to-date marine geo-spatial information on Nigerian waters to diverse maritime operators.

He said that the offshore survey vessel that would be unveiled next month would provide up-to-date marine geo-spatial information about the Nigerian waters to diverse maritime operators, for enhanced economic growth of the country.

Okafor said that the NNHO also was strengthening collaborations with developed hydrographic offices such as the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), United Kingdom Hydrographic Office (UKHO) and the French Hydrographic Office (SHOM).

Childish, silly, video game mentality carried too far. UCAV technology is not mature. Maybe the Americans get more operational reliability based on more rigorous pre mission maintenance. The days of putting UAVs in the air and shooting missiles or deploying them in a swarm are still far in front of us
In the next 10 years, ucav(s) would be a very important part of developed airforces worldwide.its the future.we gotta key into this technology and reap its benefits.am not sayin' we should go totally unmanned, but we can incoporate the ucav into the system, which would help reduce operational costs.

A Wing Loong II UAV can carry 12 ATGM's it has can stay airborne for over 30 hours. It's ATGM have a range of 10km plus with precision. It can carry precision bombs too.

The accuracy is close to 100% it can read a cars number plate. It also can give you 24 hour situational awareness so if you placed one UAV over an area of contention / consideration it will give you coverage continous over 50 km wide radius.

That means anytime Boko come out Night or Day and are on the move. You will see them.

So you have the option to direct units in the vicinity to neutralise them or you get the UAV to do it.

Efficacy of UAV's is longer in doubt.

Putting all that behind.

What do Boko really have that is so problematic for our military do deal with.
❓ ❓

Thats the question.

Boko have rickety gun trucks mounted with HMG, these gun trucks are not armoured. Lots of Rpg7's and of course the IED's and a limited number of SVBIED.

I watched how we abandoned a Vickers MTB that could easily neutralise 15/20 gun trucks on its own. WHY.

Then we call on the airforce, this war will be won on the ground not in the air.

Finally, we need a lot more of everything. Our supply chain and logistics management, I can project is very poor that limits your battlefield strategy. We don't have enough heavy lift helicopters and or aircraft 5 C130 is very, very inadequate.

you make a lot of points but miss one simple thing, drones and attack aircraft are not interchangeable. They do two different things. Drones are used for high value precision strikes where extensive isr has been done to identify the person, and whether he or she is the target, the are also used for precision bombing to enable troop advance, actually drones have a relatively high operational cost due to equipment required to support it. Also drones don't carry guns and unguided munitions for air support. Do you know the cost of precision weapons? Also drones cannot be used in intense battlefields as they are not manverable and the pilot lacks the necessary situational awareness because he/she is remote. That said, drones are not useful for pounding fleeing terrorists. They have their own specialty.

Israelites of the Biblical era & today's Israelites aren't the same people.
the former were Hebrew descendants of Jacob while the later are product of Balfour agreement.
The only Biblical Israelites in the state of Israel are the Bnei Menashe returned from India in 2005.

So the state of Israel has been at war since the 50's not Biblical era.

Thanks! Its very true and invalidates the whole Chosen Land narrative the Impostors always bleat and yet many here still don't get it.
Bnei Menashe could be counted among the Originals but In 110% sure they we're as Black African as THE Egyptians.

Have we not? Why are you stubbornly refusing to see that UCAVs are at best useful only for Air Interdiction in the Nigerian sphere.

It's just the sensor suite. Will probably upgrade if there's a lull in fighting. Don't know costs or how long to reinstall new upgrades though.

Why is that Our border communities do not receive much attacks from Insurgents like Nigeria.

Are the Insurgents more concerned about conquering Nigeria or there is something our francophone counterparts ain't telling us, abi if they try hitting our neighbors they (Insurgents) might be inflicted with much more casualties?

Okay I have visited Gamboru and I see the closeness with Fotokol. Fotokol will be sleeping more peacefully than Nigerians at Gamboru sad

In Rann there is a community I think called Bosso or Boddo not up to 10km from Rann. This communities enjoy their sleep while Rann is attacked Monthly.

Should I speak about Cameroon Amchide and Nigeria Banki?

Lemme don't go into Pulka or Gwoza axis self

Please over to you guys wink

Because Nigeria has always been the target of the insurgents, not Chad, Cameroun or Niger. They want to build their Islamic state in the NE with Maiduguri as the epicentre.

This guy @Defensenews Nigeria once posted something like that on twitter, but some people attacked him claiming that we can't blameour neighbours for our woes.

There are lot of conspiracies as far as insurgency and banditry in Nigeria is concerned. May God help us and keep our troops safe.

arm a drone with rockets and you'll have to fly at a closer range to hit target accurately. You stated with a UCAV you get to Carry out Combat and ISR at the Same,What comes to mind is the Super Tucano Built for COIN operations and has more payload that UCAV..

Actually it depends on the type of rockets the Hydra 70 with the BAE Systems Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System (APKWS) II, makes it precision weaponry with up to 8km range.

Or the Lockheed Direct Attack Guided Rocket system. Which gives it up to 12km range fired at 20,000ft.

I would speculate that these munitions will not be cheap. You easily could be talking in excess of $6k per unit. However, which variant of the Hydra 70 the NAF has procured for the A29 when they eventually arrive, l don't know. Some are not so long range, that will require a pilot to drop to a lower altitude and become vulnerable to anti aircraft fire.

The Chinese Wing Loong II UAV has a number of different ATGM such as the BA-7, LJ-7 (Blue Arrow-7) there are several variants. But all have an average effective range of 10km or slightly below.

That means they can be launched at 25,000 ft at ground targets. How much do they cost, l really dont know. But l would speculate at least $15k per unit.

US arms are always way over priced in my opinion, but in general so are all weapons of destruction it's just a question of degree.

The term coin is non specific and very fluid it means everything but nothing with in-depth detail and specifics, it is a very generic term.

Whatever use you put an asset to you can define it to be. For instance the Toyota pick up is the number one COIN vehicle, that is a fact by popularity alone. Can you say it's the best

The Mil 24 is the most widely used attack helicopters in COIN in the world.

Does that automatically mean that these assets have some unique outstanding and superior quality more than anything else

The Tucano is no better at COIN than a dedicated ground attack fighter than say the A10, SU25, British Tornado, Jaguar, etc It has one thing over them loitering time. But then if you have a UAV which can give you 24/7/365 overview of a designated area. And then direct supersonic jet attack fighters to targets within minutes, what do you need a A29 for, to watch th view . Maybe that's why they are not part of the USAF strategy in any of its conflict zones.

When we talk of China then we are talking of the masters of mass production with expedience. If you want it today and you pay China will get it for you.

The price comparison as well as the efficacy of Wing Loong II UAV's leave the A29 dead and buried. Particularly with regards to COIN as generic as the term may be.

Operational cost very low, acquisition cost low aggregate weaponry cost low. Two A29 will give you 50 Wing Loong II UAV's. Here and Now, not in 3 or 6 years time hopefully.
