it is better for you to save little and quite as soon as possible, because if you don't quite now bank will soon send you packing any time , I worked with first bank as a teller for 10 years my pension is just 2500 per month , when bank retrenched us we stayed for 3 years without job because they needed experienced people,no organization will want to employ you because they don't see you as an experienced person.it took the grace of God that I see this one , but you see those my friend who stopped every early and join business? some of them are now a big boys , some are abroad , look at me here still struggling.. say no to contract job , especially when u are still single because when you start having children ,to quit na wahala , to start business na war, it will be waisted of youth age ( God forbid

Ogar bank work no be government work please ask bankers they will tell you more.
As u can see he mentioned he already had an online business. For him to have started means he has spare time or weekend to handle that.
I know bankers that are into business and are doing pretty well.

Turnover of 21million doing what exactly??

we have ears opened. go ahead tell us

While in the banking industry, I incorporated my business name as a limited liability company in 2014, provided only screen printing services in a room out of my three bedroom apartment( rent in kano is relatively cheap, depending on your location, I was paying 100k annually).

I resigned in August 30th of 2015 with just 5k and a debt burden of up to 200k.
I spent 24hrs praying and listening to powerful gospel messages ( still do it till today).

My first job came two days after i resigned, AKTH (Physiotherapy day, 65 T-shirt) made a profit of 30k.

I started going in and out of schools, churches and organizations in kano trying to get them to do some printing jobs with me.

One month later in September pricelessly, I got a job with a highly recognized and respectable school in kano(Y......college),
they asked me to bring samples, that was how I met the owners(Nigerian man and German wife)
Oh boy! I talk tire... added with lies..
Thank God the Admin was a correct gee( told him i will settle him if i get d job).
They called me after 3days, gave me a cheque of my annual salary (nearly run mad when I got outside d gates), my annual as a contract staff was 1.1million.

The story too long. Maybe for another day.

Summary now be say...

I have 7 NGOs( well recognized ones) both in kano and Maiduguri that gives me jobs regularly.

In 2019 we got a contract from a Microfinance bank, we supplied from the wall signage, pedestrian signage, deposit slip, account opening packages, Id cards to branded gift items etc.
We signed an MOU with one of the NGOs last year for partnership( no go tell u how much).

We have moved from Printing to branding to fabrication to construction to trainings and to logistics.
Thinking of creating a thread to share my stories.
Bottom line is... U must read books and understand Nigerian business terrain, add em with spiritual powers( no joke with prayers, leave women alone, sex na distraction and demo notion).
Thank you.

The last time I posted a thread was in 2016. Check my moniker, u will see my only video in 2016.

You need to sit down and think over. Before you set out for any business or any form of hustle make sure your driving force is for Freedom and not survival.

Best of luck.

Bro. My candid advice for you is this. Follow your spirit. Atmost, have a quiet time and talk to God about it. He is the best person to direct you and how will you know. You will have that conviction in your spirit. It will come and you will know. Remember it's your life. Good or bad, it's on you not anyone else.

I say this because you might not get the advice you need from Nairaland. Already some comments here are already full of bitterness. Don't blame them. Blame the Nation. Bitter people everywhere.

May you finally decide what you want for yourself. Stay well.

BTW, Kindly teach me the Online Biz u do smiley

They're doing well bro.
Old generation banks like Wema bank pay their executive trainee staff 2.4M after tax annually (monthly Salary, leave bonus, house allowance,13th month salary & profit sharing bonus).
They don't work their ass off like these contract staffs (BSA & DSA) .
Some even get 5k for ATM duty weekly self.
Core Bank staffs earn good money.

You know your onions, most core staff in banks I know earn at least above 3M after tax annually with other benefits attached and this is for beginners level of core staff. Core staff above 5 years should be well above 5M.

ATM weekend is 6k here. Extra hours after 5PM you get paid 4k.

What is the online biz? I hope it's not Yahoo.

If your online biz is legitimate and can sustain you, why are you wasting your days building someone else's business?

Resign yesterday and put the work hours in your own business and grow it to the point where you become an employer of labour.

Sense no go kill you.

since you've answered my questions, I will answer yours.
when you are young, you have little choices. you only take what you are given. you are working as a contract worker because you don't have many choices and maybe based on your education qualification and the economic situation. so the best advice i can give is to keep the work and work towards improving yourself. save a lot of money, try to be frugal incase of any thing, then go, do enough research on possible studies so you can meet the requirements. if you can also find work with another bank and it pays more, that's even good.
but honestly, everything in life is not a rush. you take a step from where you are. this advice only works unless you are a rich man's son and money is not a problem. if money is a problem, then you take one step at a time. there are people that took many steps at a time and they land in police net.

you never mention your education qualifications. that can even guide you into better sectors. what works today, can quickly become obsolete tomorrow, so having a solid foundation will always outlast anything temporary. can you believe people work in the government and they pay them millions in salary??

and don't wait for government. government has many children to feed, so it can not feed all of them. money should not be a problem for you at this time. at 60k a month, that should be sufficient unless you are not disciplined with your spending. spend your weekends studying or doing your own research. i suspect you know what to do since you have an online biz. you can find fulfilled interests when you study a course that has better employment potential. you have to think of this yourself. i can give examples, building technology, mechanised farming techniques/agriculture technology, environment/water engineer. the country needs specialised help and it is better if one study in those areas!

It must be hell keeping Bank money safely away from contract staff. Little wonder some are teaming up with armed robbers for bank heists.

There is sth inherently evil for a bank to label it's worker 'banker' and give him 60k in a mth to survive in Lagos or anywhere else in Nigeria.

I will advise you hold on to it while seriously looking out for a better job or as a core staff in another bank
I did that for Years, putting in all.my best, passing all my e-learning, I also wrote several tests as the bank will come up with routinely hoping that I'll be confirmed, then they came up with the age thing bla bla. My bosses tried to push me and some of my colleagues then but e no work. Moreover, the contract could be terminated without timely notice.

I resigned when I got something else.

even 45k is enough to live. look now. 15k transport per month. 30k remaining for anything. but you must still live at home with mom and dad!

30k a month in your bank is very big! I get 0/zero/odo in my bank account. there are people that get around 8k monthly pension.

and only support staffs make 45k monthly. people like cleaners, security guards, drivers!

Wow, I love this ur hustling spirit. If I should guess right, the school u earlier got contract from is Yandutse school, they have both primary and secondary section. The school is owned by a Nigerian who is a deeper life pastor, they do called him Papa, his wife is Russian not German.
I wish I can have ur boldness to get out of my comfort zone. I am tired of teaching in a private school. This Covid-19 expose us wallahi, no salary for like 3 months now. Wish u can be my mentor.

Brother, I tell u the truth, u would have made 300 calls by day 15 and prospectively converted some to sales that can pay u more than that 60k. I left d bank in 2015 and have not worked for any man save God, myself and my clients. I did a turnover of 21million in 2019 with 300% profit margin compare to the previous year. Ask for a transfer. Outside Lagos living expenses are cheaper and you have some savings left over.

Plus the workload in those banks could never be as tough as those in Lagos mainly because of population and division of labour. This way you'd have more time to do stuff after work

There you can own a stall or set up a small biz, employ someone to work for you whilst you do your online biz

This way you have started your third source of income

As years go by, you'd have more money to play with. The rest is up to you

You mustnt have a career in Banking. You can just see yourself as the MD/CEO of "YourNameNgLtd).
For now, you have a Contract with the Bank and they pay you 60k per month, while you have other Online business.

So bro, see yourself as an Entrepreneur and Business Owner/Manager.
