The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, @CAS_AMSadique, arrived Sokoto today to oversee air operations being conducted in support of the renewed offensive against armed bandits in the North West & North Central States under @DefenceInfoNG Operation ACCORD.
After receiving a brief on the Operation, @CAS_AMSadique expressed satisfaction with the progress so far made, especially the destruction of some bandits’ camps & neutralization of several bandits earlier in the day, which, he said, would send a stern signal to the bandits.
He charged the Air Component to sustain the onslaught against the bandits to smoke them out of their hiding places, while continuing to provide close air support to ground forces’ operations. He urged the personnel not to relent until peace is restored to the affected areas.

Air interdiction missions being conducted by the Air Component of Operation HADARIN DAJI under the subsidiary Operation WUTAN DAJI have yielded more positive results with the destruction of 2 camps and a cave hideout of members of the armed bandits’ gang led by Hassan Tagwaye in Doumborou Forest, Zamfara State. The air strikes, which also resulted in the neutralization of some key armed bandits’ leaders as well as several of their fighters, were executed on 23 June 2020, after series of Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions led to the identification of the camps and a cave where the bandits store their weapons as well as hide to evade attacks.
Consequently, the Air Component dispatched an enhanced force package of fighter jets and helicopter gunships to attack the location. At the first camp, some bandits, who had assembled for a meeting near one of the huts, were neutralized by the attack aircraft. At the second camp, a suspected high-value bandits’ leader along with some weapon-bearing fighters were seen in the vicinity of some huts. The attack aircraft engaged the target structures, scoring accurate hits and taking out the huts along with their occupants. The NAF jets also later recorded direct hits on the suspected bunker, from where some of the bandits were seen emerging, completely destroying it. Human Intelligence reports later confirmed that Hassan Tagwaye and his twin brother Hussain along with several other bandits were neutralized in the air strikes, while a few escaped with injuries.
As a matter of security concern, people in the general area are advised to report those with sudden and suspicious injuries to the security forces. This is to ensure that the escapees are mopped up.
While commending the Air Component of Operation HADARIN DAJI for their professionalism, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, has urged them to remain resolute in the conduct of air strikes whilst continuing to provide close air support for ongoing ground operations in order to eradicate all armed bandits; thus accomplishing the directives of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) to restore normalcy in the North West and North Central Zones of the Country.

NIGERIAN ARMY WILL CONTINUE TO SUPPORT DICON TO ACHIEVE OPTIMAL PERFORMANCE, COAS COMMENDS DG DICON & STAFF FOR VISIBLE TRANSFORMATION

Nigeria's Army Chief, Lt Gen TY Buratai has expressed satisfaction and commanded the level of achievements and transformation achieved within one year by the Director General Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DG-DICON) Major General VO Ezugwu. He made the commendation on Thursday 25 June 2020 during one year anniversary of Maj Gen Victor Ezugwu as the DG DICON in the premises of the corporation in Kaduna.

General Buratai was optimistic that with the state of the real transformation in infrastructure, equipment and general facilities at DICON, Nigeria is on the path of attaining self sufficiency in military armaments and hardwares.

He said Nigerian Army has made sufficient investment to support DICON to accelerate research and development in local production of weaponry and assorted military equipments. The collaborative efforts and result oriented partnership between DICON and Command Engineering Depot Kaduna has achieved tremendous successes in repairs and production of vehicles and weapons for troops in different theaters of operations in Nigeria. This ingenuity has not only boost the morale and fighting spirit of troops, but has saved the country huge resources on importation of arms, ammunition and other military hardwares/equipment.

General Buratai was conducted round the newly rejuvenated factories and some production lines where he inspected some products and materials produced by DICON. He opined that with the level of progress of work and the zealousness of DICON Staff, soon Nigeria will start production of helicopters and jet fighters.

He expressed appreciation to the President, Commander - in- Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for his numerous supports and directions.

He used the opportunity to reassure Mr President of unflinching loyalty, resolve and determination of the Nigerian Army to combating the myriads of security threats in Nigeria within the shortest time possible.

While applouding the quality leadership of DICON, he urged the management and the entire staff to redouble their efforts with utmost dedication and selfless disposition to assigned responsibilities in order to consolidate on the successes recorded so far.

In a related development, Gen Buratai also inspected multiple ongoing projects in Jaji Military Cantonment, where he performed the ground breaking for the construction of Polo Club House and Stable for Infantry Polo Club. He also planted a tree at Infantry Zoological Gardens in Jaji.

if it's helos it's not possible even in 10yrs time. Helicopter is more complex than fix wings except you're talking about assembling and not building/forging from the scratch..

actually the f35 is a strike fighter so it can be used effectively against terrorists. It was indended as a replacement to the a10 it is even projected to be cheaper to run than f16s thereby replacing the two platforms with one hit. However the new air role of light attack is an uneconomical overkill for the f35 hence the a29s.

I don't even think any factory has the capability to produce aircraft airframes in Nigeria, talk more of avionics. Making car frames does not translate to aircraft manufacturing capability. Even lincense production is almost impossible except maybe for kit aircrafts

You know the top speed of the A29 and you know the noise a turboprop aircraft makes giving you much more early warning.

Do you think the Boko guys will be waving welcome flags. I don't think they have very accurate and proficient gunners but they could get lucky considering the number of gun trucks with HMG. And that will be a $38 million➕ aircraft turned to rubble.

Hopefully the pilot will not be captured and used for murderous bloody deranged PR.

They are buying A29's for the Afghan Air Force but the USAF uses F35, F16 for CAS even more than the A10.

Pretty stealthy plane. Super fast too. You fire an AA gun at this plane and you're dead.

I still find it hard to believe we are still using these, I hope it's not the variant with Jaguar petrol engine. It brings back memories when I was in junior school.

I guess they could still be useful but you definitely need some slat armour on it and against anything other than light arms you will have a big problem.

They are sold as military surplus for near peanuts and that's the more updated CVRT variants anything from £5k to £15k per unit not wholesale.

Flight cost of an A-29 per hour is 800$.
Flight Cost of an F-16 per hour is 8000$.

From an economic perspective you can fly 10x missions for the same costs in an A-29 than compared to a F-16. In the long run this costs add up and matter. This cost savings even justify the use of PGMs to guarantee one hit one kill strikes. It is a wise decision to get the A-29s.

what is wrong with you? The A29 clears a whooping 165 m in a second and you say a proficient gunner can strike it, which gunner biko? Do you think BHTs and ISWAP have guided aircraft guns? Asides that, the A29 rockets have an 8km range which gun will they use to hit that distance? Even Russia is still developing an AA system of that range.
