who told you that wash? I studied Agricultural course, have my own farm, I consult for people and I still work full time with salary over 200k per month with just 7 years experience. Tell me how many courses can beat that. Non on my graduate mate is currently unemployed. We still have whatsapp group to monitor each other. Many offers full for us that we can't even occupy
Which course

Nothing goes for nothing.
1. You spend 8-10 years to become a doctor and you consider yourself lucky if you get employed in government hospital and earn around 200k. You need to study more to grow in your career.
2. B. SC Biochemistry + NYSC = 5 years (You can land a good job at this stage that pays 200k+). M. SC- 2 years (you qualify for lecturing position and management trainee position in multinationals if you are good) and PhD 3- years (you are now unstoppable, flying in every dimensions in your career).
There is no almighty formular or short cut for greatness. Pay the price and become great.
What you calculated for Biochemistry is not always the case.

Everybody didn't do "gabbage in gabbage out" as you stated. People who are not educated produce pure water (simple distillation technique is all that is needed) and yoghurt consumed by Nigerians. We even import tooth pick.
Most interestingly, graduate trainee jobs in banks and many multinationals are open to all university graduates with 2.1 regardless of your course of study.
Also, research institutes, NAFDAC do employ graduate biochemists but it mainly man-know-man thing.
With 2.1, M. SC & PhD in Biochemistry, you are certain of good career in lecturing and research both locally and internationally.
Finally, the creme-del-la-creme of Biochemistry career is the manufacturing industry such as Nestle, P&G, Nigerian Breweries, International breweries, Guinness, Coca Cola, PZ etc. They don't employ much and their recruitment is very competitive but a management position there is highly lucrative. You start to earn what an MBBS graduate can only dream of.
If you are connected, DPR and NNPC employ biochemistry graduates as environmentalist and quality control officers.
The problem really is that Nigeria produce more graduates that the labour market can absorb. Everybody wants to go to school and get a good job by fire by force.
I have heared of a doctor who earns 33k in a private hospital and another who is yet to get a good job for 5 years.
No course guarantees job anymore. Many pharmacists are sales representatives (glorified drivers) in pharmaceutical industries. I know nurses that earn 20k in private hospitals.
Many Chemical & Petroleum Engineers are teaching chemistry in private schools with salary of 15k-25k.
I have read the lamentations of graduate doctors here who are struggling to get a place for housemanship for 2 years.
When people talk about how Useful a course is,Most times, they Mean can I Apply/work/Practice this course.

If Nigeria is Developed as a country, I won't even Consider Medicals at all.but we are Here.

Everything is to Prepare,Graduate With a good Result First, Work Hard and Pray.
God will always Favour his own.

Pls I beg you in the name of your future don't go near MICROBIOLOGY. You will hear millions of opportunities in school but in labour market you will see zero. Dont even think you are going to work in hospital or in medical lab. Absolutely no place for you. If you insist see you see hair dressing salon.

Hope you know some Doctors still go straight to Research After MBBS by Obtaining their MSc and PhD.
Parents still allow their children to study Medicine/Health Courses because there is at least an Assurance of starting up quickly.

If you read my comment well, you will see that I did not say medicine is bad. But these days, lab technicians live better than doctors in my opinion. You need to check it out well. Doctors are suffering in Nigeria too and the economy is bad. The point is do any course and be deligent. That's all. Better you get your degree in 4 years and start navigating than wait 7 years doing medicine. Still, medicine can be rewarding after 7 years. But my point is that it is not a golden course. Your brain is the golden key. Be book smart while in school, but be street smart afterward.

Bro, we all have different visions. There is a Nigerian guy with I think 3 or 4 PhDs presently building jets and planes for the US. I know another who studied statistics but ended up designing cars in the US. Yet there are many doctors turned nurses abroad too. Looking at the other side, there are people who decide to sit down where there is no room for improvement (did 7yrs in the college and started hustling doing 3 jobs as an ordinary doctor in Nigeria and today strike, tomorrow negotiations). If you are deligent and you want to innovate, the thought of staying here and working here will be out of your mind. You will go for areas where you know you can use your brain well. The courses I mentioned are such that that can easily get you visas to world class countries to be good in the areas. If you are deligent, you can get scholarships in Germany, US, Canada, etc. Guy, if you have restricted yourself to Nigeria, it's fine. Let those who can think and can hustle just be innovative in their choices. Bless you!

As it is almost time for jamb to give admission this year, the portal for change of institution and course is still open for those who wish to have a change in their course.

Well let me put it this way, this thread is for you to comment the course you think is a bad idea for anyone to study.

Consider job opportunities and the future, will the course still be relevant in 20,10 years time.

Mine - Zoology (especially if you want to base in NIGERIA) just change it before its too late. You can change to ANY OTHER AGRIC COURSE

ThankYouGod:
Elect/Elect, Mechanical, Civil, Computer engineering.

Civil Engineering & Electrical/Electronics Engineering should NOT be on your list....

These are the two hot cakes of the construction industry, even in Nigeria.

Know how to design & how to market yourself well, you'll enjoy them. kiss

Why did they op mentioned Zoology?
Did you study zoology?
Where did you get your statistics from that zoology is a useless course even in Nigeria?

I don't know whether I will call it ignorance or say that you are just following the normal useless viewpoint ignorant people like you view some courses with.

It is peeps like you that will get admission to study zoology and you will end up messing around.

It is not always about what you study nowadays in Nigeria but how well you are poised to Solve the immediate needs of the society.

I'm a proud graduate of zoology and environmental biology from a prestigious uni here in Nigeria......One thing people fall to understand is this..........zoology is a wide life sciences courses that spans along and interwines with other life sciences courses...........while in school, I even did a speciality in fisheries, parasitology,Genetics and etcetera.....

So op, no course is useless in Nigeria.......Na our naija mentality d make us regard some courses as useless.....2015, I wanted to study medicine and Surgery but ended up in zoology and environmental biology and up till now, I neva regretted taking that decision.

Currently waiting for Service......las las we go dey all right

Aye, aye, captain.
You nailed it bro.
I'm also studying biochemistry, currently in my HND1/300l and frankly I'm beginning to suspect the prospects of getting a job would be pretty low.
The other day you recommended learning video editing.
Please can you specify, where you got acquainted with this skill?
Roughly how long is it gonna take.
I have a PC and I really want to start learning right away.

I don't think you need to spend 4years learning it. It's like a vocational course that you can master with 6months training.
