Hello Everyone

The status of my WES application changed to 'in progress' yesterday but it has changed back to 'on hold' today.
Please does anyone knows what could be responsible for this, more so CIPM informed that they have sent the hard copy of transcript to WES, which is the only item showing as pending.

Also please does anyone has confirmation if WES has started accepting hard copy transcript now.

If you are asking about unilag, much as I know you don't need it. Didn't use it. Don't know anyone that did of all the people I know that did their evaluation with unilag

How do I now include my Wes reference number in the transcript?

Guys, maybe this can encourage someone. Got my ielts test result today. Aced it in first sitting. Thanks to God and him alone.

MOD Idp. Paper based
Test date 13/06/2020
Yaba, Lagos

Listening 8.5
Reading. 8.5
Writing 7.5
Speaking 8

I initially booked for same test date (13/06) on the 23rd of May. I was hoping to pay that week but for one or two reasons I couldn't. Well, I thought like BC do (or used to do) they will cancel the booking after 5days if payment wasn't made.

So on the 6th of June I booked again. This time for 20th. I paid same day, only for me to get an email the following day (7th) confirming my initial booking for 13th. I went "wtf!!!. I re-booked and paid for 20th, my 13th booking shoulda expired!!...I haven't read shit...help!!...lmao".

Well, thanks to prayers, Liz's and Jay's youtube videos for speaking and writing, I maxed it. I practised listening and reading using some cambridge sample abi na past questions wey de get volume 1 to 14. I did the 5 most recent volumes though.

To anyone about to write, it's possible to do it in one sitting. The exam is technical not difficult. There are strategies. Find them, follow them.

I will advise you not to even bother. My sibling here wrote with MOD on the 30th May and she had LRWS as 8 6.5 7.5 8 and she broke down emotionally saying she was sure she did well in the Reading and would never re-write but would rather remark. Long story short, she sent in the remark form (for L and R) by Sunday, 2 days after the result that is, and 10days later (on Wednesday this week), they communicated it to her that she should pick up her TRF on Monday, the 29th.

I'm not sure she'll be going because since there was no mail to fill a refund form, scores haven't changed surely. 89k gone down the drain at 4th attempt! Well, against my initial opinion, if you strongly fill in your gut that this can change and then the fund is no barrier, you can give remarking a shot. Nothing is impossible but get prepared for the worst while you keep firing on all cylinders with preparation for another test, please. As soon as you receive the outcome, if negative, obviously it was high time you registered and paid for another test proper.

Iyanu a sele sista mi!

Just like your sibling, I had a 6 in Reading. I was so sure I did everything right, wrote that same May 30th. I will just brace myself yo write it again instead of paying for a remark. I am still pained sha. 73k just like that.

Well, I took that advice when I had a 7.5 in listening and rewrote the exam. But someone on this thread has had reading score changed from 6.5 to 7. It means that the reading and listening can also be a bit subjective.

How to get Request/Reference letter from your employer

Reference Letter from employer plays a very important role as the document to prove your work experience for migration purposes. Many people have raised the issue on this forum that they are unable to get reference letter(s) from their employer for migration. I would like to highlight some points in this regard which worked for me and might as well work for you guys. After all you can give it a try, and if it works for you, good for you. If you have explored better ways of addressing this issue, please mention it here, so that others can also learn and approach it in a manner which will help them

Requesting a reference letter is an art, it all depends on your rapport with your manager/supervisor. If I were you, I would follow the steps given below, after all you are not moving to a competitor, you are only trying for a better life, which is not wrong at all.

1. Win Confidence - If you can win your manager's confidence, then you can let him know this over a causal chat. The best way to approach is in the form of asking your manager's advise on you moving to another country. Even if you do not like the current job, never ever do the mistake of complaining and citing it as the reason for migration. Instead, try to relate it with your personal aspirations, ambitions and quality of life and what you want to do with your life. If you ask for advise, it is an indirect way of flattering the manager and it will also make him feel that you consider him as a mentor, but do not overdo it . This approach will definitely work, because we humans by our very nature love to advise others . Listen to his views on the same, do not get demotivated in case he does not see immigration as a good way to better one's life. In fact, it is his view, and you have anyway made up your mind to migrate. After all, you used this approach only to put this situation to him. If you are successful in this approach, then you have laid the foundation

2. Request Reference - Next ask him whether he would be willing to refer you in case you plan to migrate in future, never give him an indication that it is immediate, otherwise he will feel that you have made up your mind to move and the thoughts of replacing you would be running in his mind. You can give an indication about it and also assure your manager that you will be around for at least a year, so that you safeguard your job even if Canada does not go through as expected. If you put it this way, he will be more than happy and willing to refer you. But sometimes, even if he is willing to refer you, he may not have the right to issue a letter, so that is where the next step comes into picture.

3. Leverage Authority/Position - If you are successful in doing the above, you have crossed 50% of the hurdle. The next important step is to convince HR to issue a letter in the required format. This is a very crucial step, so leverage your manager's authority/position and request your manager to speak to HR on your behalf and convince them about your requirement and also let him assure HR that the whole process would take at least a year (keeping buffer in mind  ) and you would stick around for the said time being. Yes, this is the difficult part of assuring them, but you need to make a commitment (at least verbally) to stick around - if you need the letter badly, this is the least that you can do. This works in most of the cases, as they know that you may leave sometime in future and if they have to find a replacement, they know when to start the process. If this step does not work, then, from step 2 move to the step below.

4. Letter from Manager - If HR refuses to give you a letter, then ask your manager to issue you a letter on white paper (it should cover all the requisite points), along with a copy of his visiting card and company ID card and get the letter notarized. Submit it along with a Letter of Explanation (LOE).

LOE should cover the following points.
- State the reason why you cannot get a reference letter from employer, if you have any evidence to support you statement, please mention it and also attach it along with the letter.
- In absence of the letter, mention what proactive steps you have taken to prove your work experience.
- Mention the list of documents which you are submitting, in the absence of the reference letter.
- Request the Case Officer to consider your case in light of your situation and also in terms of the proactive steps taken by you to submit best alternative documentary evidence.

All the best!

Thanks for sharing this! The LOE is an excellent idea, at least the officer knows what you are providing, what is missing and why. Step 1) Win Confidence is also a great foundation to have. Many of us don't have much time, it may be better to start hustling for the letter even before ITA..... to give time to execute steps 1 to 3.

I think the approach will differ depending on people's circumstances:

1) the structure of the organisation - in a well structured environment, there might be no need for manager intervention. I would advise that people should always go to HR first if possible and document the initial request on an email which HR would respond to. If that fails, then you can engage the manager to approach HR on your behalf. When engaging your manager you could consider making the request at face value without going into details of what you need it for. The manager may guess or ask further questions, which you will need to respond to truthfully.

2) one's relationship with one's supervisor/boss - if your manager is the mentor type, then of course approach him/her and spill your guts, have an open discussion. They could get HR to write the letter if you can't. I'm afraid some managers may be unreasonable, so gauge yours to decide the approach.

3) other evidence that serves the same purpose - most structured companies have an appraisal process. If an employer reference letter is not possible then nothing shows your responsibilities more than your appraisal. I'm surprised thay we don't mention this more often here. Same for goals. The goals submitted or given at the start of the year. Also the job vacancy would usually list the JD. If it were me, I would get all these in addition to the employment letter and the WRITTEN refusal from the employer to give me a ref letter with responsibilities. This is if all else fails sha. I don't know why the manager or a colleague writing the reference makes me nervous.

If it is a one-man business or unstructured environment, then na to dey grovel to HR, to manager to whoever...you are the one that knows the value of what you need it for, begging doesn't hurt grin

Please What if the company has no HR department and the manager/supervisor has to issue the reference letter, can it be written on the company’s letterhead?
