I read a case study about an evolution in jaji, for lt.to lt.cdr and equivalent course across the armed forces.....the scenario was equatorial Guinea, been used to undermine the federal republic of Nigeria, with France been the puppet master.... this was probably a late 80s course work, and core to the solutions I read was mig 21, with camera going for recon and other variables , and trust me, you will see brains at work and contingency plans and so on......years later, i keep wondering if the way we keep having ambush and other issues in the north east and there seems not to be a counter, are we deteriorating as a fighting force or getting better. The other time it was a Ghanaian lt.col talking about about altimeter Bombs used during Liberia war, used by Nigerian jet.. that I doubt are used now.....I'm a fighting man, and paid my dues....but are we improving or depreciating I'm asking this because I'm a navy guy, and don't know what the land and air forces have in their arsenal.

Go and read the book: The Evolution of War by Maurice Davie. There you will find your answer.

The military never depreciated, war only evolved and all armed forces struggled to evolve. The UK military struggled with the Irish Republican Army IRA for many years, the US and NATO have struggled in the arab world, etc....

That is the situation, not that militaries depreciate. Wars evolve and large armies based on doctrines don't evolve easily until they take some beatings.

It's been close to 8 weeks since they arrived now, yet they've not been deployed. Are they for decoration?

Use $5million each VT-4 tanks against Boko Haram.. shocked..... and the new anti-tank weapons for boko haram ba ?

So, what do we use when proper war comes

I am a baby I swear. In fact, am back to observer.

The army should use all T-55, Vikers, etc.... all old weapons against these bastard terrorists.... Even at that, all old tanks cannot be pulled from across the country to the NE because the army must maintain readiness in men and armoury across all sections of the country.

Please, let officers think for us. That is their job, they are experts and know better.

And the new weapons are the armoury of the future... I guess. Not for ragtag bandits.

evolved that altimeter fuse that we used in the 80s and 90s....is now discarded in use of before world war 2 contact fuse? War evolves that it becomes a war of attrition for an organized military.... the bht, are no different from the liberian and Sierra leone wars, just that too many people in the right offices are becoming billionaires from it, trust me, if there was oil in the north east, all these issues would have stopped.

With all the loss of lives and livelihood, which I regret.... I can say that Boko Haram has been a "blessing in disguise" for the army....

Many improvements have been made in the last 10 years, that would not have happened without Boko Haram...

The army has grown from 5 divisions to 8 divisions, each having full compliments of fighting and support elements. The 8 div structure also decreased the AoR for each division and makes fighting and planning easier.. Size of the army has grown, trainning curriculum expanded massively, new skills being learned by the services and used on the frontlines, etc.

Also many weapons are in the pipeline, some silently ordered and awaiting delivery, across the three services. The MoD is on shopping spree, and the navy and army are smiling well. Even the air force too... is happier..

thanks to Boko Haram awakening. As for the deaths,,,, well greatness don't come easy. Sorry tho.

In addition, local production of weapons have trebled since the boko haram war. A couple of weapons are planned to be assembled in Nigeria in the next 10years, local research, drone technology, rocket propulsion and space research, etc..... these are benefits of frghting rag tag boys sponsored by evil elements...

So, its not always about deaths,,,,, there are benefits as well. A fighting army acquires more experience.... cool

Tanks save lives? In ambush scenarios or??

Truth is that the Nigerian military of 1985 would beat the Nigerian military if today hands down, the only thing that might give a bit of resistance, is in the quality of our infantry training.....though without better infantry weapons if the 1980s.

Deterrence bro! If tank is used effectively, it can deter terrorists from attacking an area it is deployed in. It's gun can be used to take out bokoharam's guntrucks kilometers away and save lives of soldiers. There are many different ways tanks save lives.

although I wasn't around in 1985 but whatever arsenal they must have fielded has become obsolete in today's war compared to the calibre of armour we have in our inventory now.

Am not sure drones and reconnaissance aircrafts were in existence then

The Chief of Air Staff for me is the best service chief this country has ever had and am not only talking about the Airforce, army and navy is included. The man legit invested so much in R & D, human capacity development, welfare etc his reign had s being nothing short of impressive considering the tight budget they work with. Even army personnel envy the Airforce guys alot grin and it's quite understandable. It will be nice to see him occupy the CDS position if PMB changes his service Chiefs.

Difference between the old and new era chaps is harnessed on Leadership and Unity of purpose.

The stance/doctrine of a leader is what will be entrenched. Whatever the fellow at the helm of affair believed in, will permeate and percolate down the entire structure (including the quality and quantity of trainings embarked on) either to their detriment or development.
Case study : the present Air Chief.

The old era chaps had little to no personal or regional agenda/interest. Dealings were collective.
Case study: Maitatsine uprising/MEND uproar.

Modern day hierarchy are not selfless and that acts as the launching pad for indiscipline----- both in strategies and procurements.

Totally agree and for the simple reason that those guys were willing to die to preserve the reputation of the NA and the leadership too did not tolerate failure. I am not ready to die for this country and I won't advise anyone to whether under the guise of joining the military.

When you have all finished killing the thread, let us know. You behave as if everything is a new problem and view the past with rose tinted spectacles. It is never "I have to make it right". Rather, it is always "their fault, na dem do am". As if all of a sudden you are not Nigerians anymore making us all part of the problem.

When you have all finished self deprecating, don't complain when foreigners insult you. And no, outside perception won't change with different people in power. The damage has already been done. Goodluck to you all

We had recon aircraft fokker 28 mpa, customs too had recon aircraft, though we didnt have drones, even our mig 21s, had the capability to recon, using video cameras recorders, a capability I know our j7 has also....most of the equipments in our arsenal that we using to fight bht are still from the 80s and early 90s.

Maiduguri mourns because he was such a lovely and Jovial guy

Like I said my friend you do not know what Hate is.

Those who HATE this country are the guys at the top benefiting financially from this War and those who are here on this thread trying to defend the guys at the top benefiting financially from this war. They all wanna ensure the status quo remains.

The bold is extreme retrogressive thinking it's a an assumptive proposition. Maybe it is tenable to you.

But definitely not too me.

To measure incompetence you must have some knowledge based competencies and vice versa.

So by what unit of measurement did you make that proposition.

Putting aside the term improvement.

Can l ask has the manpower of the NA increased over the past decades.
Re: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by LTGEN: 12:24am On Jun 29, 2020
The Manpower of the NA at the time OBJ decimated the NA was estimated to be South of 100K
OBJ and IBB who will live in infamy literally destroyed competence and Merit in the NA
Say what you like about GEJ the increase in quality started under him to 120K
NA went from 4Div to 6Div
NN went from 2Commands to 3,Command
Manpower in NA is expected to climb from
120K to 200K ( This is going to take time)
NA has gone from 6DiV to 8 Div
NAF has gone from 3 Operational Commands to 6
In addition a complete remake in SOFC
And A Satellite/Drone/ “ Signature “
NAF is in the process of going from 7.5K to 15K
It is a long process
Nigeria needs more boots on the ground.

That was very unprofessional of the Soldier!!!! Soldiers here generally have a mentality that civilians are their slaves...that has to change. Soldiers are soldiers because they have choosen to serve the people. It is an unresponsible soldier that would mobilize State resources to go look for an unarmed civilian. What won't we hear in Nigeria....and people are celebrating this?

NewDelhi:
Many of you don't know that king azubuike too well. His hatred for the army started last year when he had a heated argument with a soldier on another thread. (Forgotten his monicker but I will dig it up). The soldier happen to be a middle rank officer and promised Azubuike he was gonna look for him. Azubuike foolishly gave him his address and dared him to come with enough ammunition and men. Funny enough they came but and d soldier posted pictures on the thread as evidence but what later transpired we didn't get to know coz seun later deleted the thread after it seemed to be getting out of hand. He came back bragging about how he and his boys chased the soldiers away and gave them a run for their money but we don't even know the truth . It was a very serious case then in the crime section . Azubuike has always hated the army before then. After that incidence it got worse. He started his nuisance with this sister thread and later diverted here.
